Can Mike Scifres throw? Hekker no. But that didn’t prevent the San Diego Chargers from knocking off the Seattle Seahawks in Week 2 exhibition play. Philip Rivers directed the Bolts to one of the game’s two touchdowns in the opening series, but things went downhill for him from there, including an end zone pick by Earl Thomas that ended San Diego’s second possession. After Rivers’ allocated time was done, backup Kellen Clemens lasted only 3 pass attempts before suffering a broken collarbone on a sack by Cassius Marsh. Unwilling to put Rivers at risk, Chargers head coach Mike McCoy turned to punter Mike Scifres as his emergency QB. From there on the Bolts had a hand tied behind their back, and but for a costly Seattle turnover, they likely would not have scored at all in the second half. But reeking QB play by the Seahawks kept San Diego in the game. Russelmania started slow and did not get going before time ran out on him. Playing all of the second half except for Seattle’s final series, B.J. Daniels threw a pair of picks, the second in the 'Hawks’ penultimate possession. Relieving Daniels, Tarvaris Jackson (who at one point in the second quarter was 0-for-7), misfired an interception that immediately put the Bolts in field goal range with less than 2 minutes to go, and the game ended with Nick Novak’s walk-off field goal giving the Chargers a 13-10 victory.

End zone pick of Philip Rivers by Earl Thomas.

After one good series, life got rough for Rivers.

Two games, two picks for Marcus Burley.

Took one for the team: Luke Willson injured his shoulder scoring Seattle’s lone TD.

DeMarcus Dobbs gets past D.J. Fluker on the way to his second sack.
