      PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

      The Fab 5, Week 12

      1. GREEN BAY PACKERS (10-1)

Survived a close one against Houston. Next victim?

      2. SEATTLE SEAHWKS (9-2)

Even without Russell Wilson’s the NFC’s best team outside of Wisconsin.

      3. KANSAS CITY CHIEFS (8-3)

New AFC West leaders have won seven of their last eight.

      4. HOUSTON TEXANS (8-3)

No need to drop them after a tough 3 point loss to the Pack.

      5. NEW YORK JETS (8-3)

It took OT for Cincy to end Gang Green’s winning streak.

      Week 13 Games To Watch

A potential SB LI preview. Can anyone stop the Pack though?

      Vikings (6-5) @ Redskins (6-5)

A hot and cold team collides with a surging one. The winner will climb 2 games over .500.

      Steelers (3-8) @ Patriots (1-10)

Maybe only fans of the teams (and maybe not all of them) will be watching, but can Pittsburgh reach 4 wins before the Pats get their 2nd?

      Cowboys (7-4) @ Saints (7-4)

Off the schnide with their first win in a month, can the Boys get another streak going?

      Texans (8-3) @ Raiders (7-4)

If the Texans don’t shake off their loss to Green Bay, they could get bushwhacked by a Raider team that is playing well despite the loss of Derek Carr.

        Game Notes
The Seahawks last played a game in Los Angeles when they visited the Raiders on Sept. 11, 1994. You have to go back even further to find when Seattle last played the Rams in LA- Oct. 23, 1988. The Rams, on the way to a 10-6 record and a wild card loss to the Vikings, logged a lopsided 31-10 win in that contest. Those Seahawks, however, managed to finish 9-7 before going one and done in the postseason with a divisional round loss at Cincinnati. This week the Seahawks are looking to notch their fifth straight season with double digit wins, a week ahead of Russell Wilson's anticipated return. The Rams, meanwhile, cannot afford a loss that would put them 4 games behind Seattle with 4 games to play.

          Re: Pete And Repeat

When Russell Wilson was injured in Seattle’s embarrassing loss to the New England Patriots, Seahawks fans pictured the 2016 season swirling around a toilet bowl. Now that Wilson is slated to return to duty when the Hawks visit the Saints next week, a collective sigh of relief can be breathed. Proving to be surprisingly adept at adapting to Wilson’s absence, the Seahawks lost only once during it. The latest win came at the expense of the Rookie of the Year bid of Los Angeles Rams signal-caller John Poteat, the first player selected in the 2016 draft. The Legion of Doom picked off Poteat twice and limited his completion rate to 50% in a 24-10 victory that saw the Seahawks reach at least 10 wins for the fifth consecutive season. The score may have been more lopsided had Josh Freeman not suffered a torn hammy on a scramble. Freeman was on a roll, but Josh Johnson threw a pair of picks which kept potential points off the board.

Seattle drew first blood in the opening series with Josh Freeman’s 3 yard TD toss to Jimmy Graham, but the second time around Steven Hauschka missed a 51 yard field goal attempt. In the second quarter the lead was expanded to 21-zip with Danario Alexander’s 13 yard catch and a 2 yard run by Fred Alden. The Rams finally got on the board when Greg Zuerlein booted a 35 yard FG just 5 seconds before halftime, and a dull second half saw only two more scores: LA scored its lone TD in the third quarter on a 9 yard pass from Poteat to Brian Quick, and Hauschka tacked on a 37 yard kick in the fourth.

              2. SEATTLE SEAHWKS (10-2)

Wilson returns to join chase of Pack.

              3. KANSAS CITY CHIEFS (9-3)

              Win streak has reached 7.

              4. NEW YORK JETS (9-3)

Demolished the Bolts in bounce-back win.

              5. DENVER BRONCOS (8-4)

Would have more than 8 wins but for Miller’s injury.

              Week 14 Games To Watch

              Bengals (8-4) @ Ravens (7-5)

              Battle for AFC North supremacy.

              Broncos (8-4) @ Bills (8-4)

Neither team can afford to lose ground within its division.

              Eagles (7-5) @ Vikings (6-6)

A loss would devastate the Vikes’ wild card hopes.

              Seahawks (10-2) @ Saints (7-5)

Will Wilson be rusty? How will Brees play from under the bus?

Crescent City Standoff: Brees, Saints At Extension Impasse
Payton: Brees Not Essential To Future Success

According to a source, Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints are “light years apart” on the numbers for a contract extention and negotiations are moving at a glacial pace. Brees hitting free agency in the twilight of his career was once unthinkable, but judging by the comments of head coach Sean Payton, Brees will have to lower his expectations as he wants to retire as a Saint. Payton has developed a supreme confidence in the heir apparent status of gunslinger Taylor Ingram, the team’s third round pick in 2015. “Taylor Ingram could already be starting for a number of other teams. It’s almost a disservice to him and to us that we haven’t been playing him. He’s more than ready for whenever Drew Brees is not the starting quarterback of this team. I don’t mean to sound ungrateful for everything Drew has done for this team and this city, but as much as we’d love to have Drew retire as a Saint, that’s not essential to the future success of this team. Give taylor a camp with the starter’s reps, and our offense won’t miss a beat in 2017.” Given Payton’s assessment of Ingram as Brees’ successor, the Saints appear to be holding all of the cards in this situation and might be best served to go ahead and move on to the post-Brees era- with Brees off the payroll, New Orleans can be much more free-spending during the next free agency period.

Russell Wilson returns to action as the Seahawks hit the road for a game in the Superdome, where they can expect Drew Brees to be playing with a chip on his shoulder after Sean Payton essentially said the Saints don't need him anymore.
