JUSTIN BLACKMON AND THE JAGUARS ARE THE PATRIOTS FINAL VICTIMS OF THE REGULAR SEASON

The Pats will wrap up their regular season and their pursuit of a second 16-0 campaign when they host the Jaguars on Sunday at 1:00 PM.

    Players to Watch
QB Austin Davis was signed in the offseason to replace Blake Bortles. Davis has thrown for 3,507 yards, 19 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Former Colt Ahmad Bradshaw is the team’s leading rusher with 737 yards and 4 scores on 218 carries. Allen Robinson and Justin Blackmon are each over 1,000 yards receiving with Blackmon’s 8 touchdowns leading the way.

On defense newcomer A.J. Hawk leads the team with 122 tackles and his five interceptions also lead the way. DEs Tyrunn Walker and rookie Aram Carrington lead the team with 7 sacks each.

EDELMAN AFTER HIS RECORD BREAKING TD RECEPTION

      Scoreboard1st2nd3rd4thFinal
      Jacksonville Jaguars [5-10]0010313
      New England Patriots [15-0]770721

      PERFECTION!

In one of their closest games in months the Patriots edged out the Jaguars in Gillette to become just the third team in NFL history to post an undefeated regular season record. Their feat matches the 2007 Patriots and the 1972 Dolphins, who did it in a 14 game regular season.

“It’s pretty cool obviously, not may people get to do that. But we’re far from satisfied. There’s a lot more work to be done this season.” Vince Wilfork said after the historic win. Wilfork was part of that 2007 team that went 16-0 then fell to the Giants in the superbowl. “We’re looking for three more wins.” He added.

Brady played just two drives, connecting with Julian Edelman for a 14 yard TD on the first drive of the game. The touchdown was Edelman’s 144th reception on the season, topping Marvin Harrison’s record of 143 set in 2002. Edelman’s time in the game was also short as he played just two drives as well. He finished with 3 receptions for 41 yards and the score.

New England leaned heavily on the running game with Ridley and Blount each carrying the ball 20 or more times and finishing with over 100 yards and a score on the day.

Jimmy Garoppolo struggled in the heavy wins, completing 15 of 25 pass attempts for 121 yards.

New England led 14-0 at the half before Jacksonville put up 10 to start the third quarter. After a Blount TD run in the fourth the Pats defense was able to hold the Jaguars to a field goal. New England ran out the clock after a key first down by Blount.

“It probably means more to you guys and the fans than it does to us honestly. Some of us have been there before and we know how that ended.” Coach Belichick replied when asked about his team making history.

New England will hold the number one seed in the AFC playoffs and will have a bye next week. They will have home field advantage throughout their playoff run.

JUSTIN HOUSTON AND THE CHIEFS HOPE TO END THE PATRIOTS PLAYOFF RUN EARLY

The Pats will start their playoff run by hosting the Chiefs in the Divisional Playoff round this Sunday. Kansas City finished with a 10-6 record and upset the Ravens 20-14 last week in Baltimore

                              Players to Watch
QB Alex Smith is considered one of the more reliable QBs in the league. He finished up with 3,775 yards, 17 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. The Chiefs only got 6 games out of Jamal Charles during the regular season but he is 100% now. In his limited appearance Charles ran for 539 yards and six touchdowns while adding 49 receiving yards. Backup Knile Davis is out for the game. De’Anthony Thomas led the team with 699 rushing yards. At wide receiver it’s the same old story for the Chiefs as Dwayne Bowe was their top option once again. He caught 81 passes for 887 yards but only two scores. Rookie Kevin Browning led the team with 4 touchdowns. Browning caught 65 passes for 781 yards. Kansas City comes into the game with their best offensive linesman Eric Fisher on the sidelines. Guards Jeff Allen and Zach Fulton have also been ruled out.

Defensively it’s all about Justin Houston for the Chiefs. Houston led the team with 106 tackles and also paced them with 8 sacks. Houston and Tamba Hali will need to get pressure on Tom Brady to protect their suspect secondary.

                              Outlook
The Patriots will have to slow down Jamal Charles and try to keep him from making any back breaking plays. Getting pressure on Alex Smith shouldn’t be a problem as the Pats secondary is far better than the KC receivers and the Chiefs have key injuries on their offensive line. When the Pats have the ball they need to protect Brady and run the ball effectively. The Patriots should be able to win this one without too much trouble.
