    Rodgers

LSU | 4-star RB Rodgers remains committed to Tigers
    Tue, 19 Jan 2027 15:23:24 -0700
Carley McCord of WDSU-TV New Orleans reports that 4-star RB Scottie Rodgers (#10 RB prospect, Louisiana, 4.54 40-time) confirmed that he will honor his commitment and enroll at LSU next fall despite the program's recent coaching change.

"I committed to the university, not to Coach (Les) Miles," said the 5-11 211 pound Rodgers in an interview with McCord. "I want to remain in-state and there is no doubt that I am hyped up to run the rock for Coach D. Geezy. He actually called me the day the announcement was made that he was going to B.R. and told me he has big plans for me next season.

"I am a Tiger for life."

Rodgers, the younger brother of current Tigers TE Lucas Rodgers, rushed for 1,748 yards and 19 touchdowns this past season with the Marksville Tigers as a high school senior. With LSU's running back core depleted due to graduation and with junior RB Anthony Johnson (66 ovr) currently the lone back on the team's roster, Rodgers has a tremendous chance to contribute right away as a true freshman next season.

He hopes to contribute as much as his older brother Lucas did this past year, as the to-be-junior tight end hauled in 80 receptions for 1,015 yards and 7 touchdowns in 2026, all team-highs.

LSU | 4-star OLB McNeal keeping options open
    Thu, 21 Jan 2027 14:40:37 -0700
Eve Jewell of ESPN reports that 4-star OLB Will McNeal (#8 OLB prospect, Louisiana, 4.46 40-time), who soft committed to LSU two months ago, has indicated that he is currently re-evaluating his options following the dismissal of LSU head coach Les Miles, whose second stint with the team ended this past season after being replaced by former Tulane head coach D. Geezy.

McNeal, who finished his high school senior season with the Opelousas Tigers with 84 tackles, 14 1/2 sacks, and 3 interceptions, indicates that promises were made to him by the previous regime that he isn't sure would be honored now and that the uncertainty on how his skill-set would be utilized by the Tigers following the coaching switch has weighed heavily on his decision.

"I just need some time," said McNeal. "LSU is not out of the picture, but I just want to re-open my recruitment this off-season and see where the chips fall. I'm definitely down for playing for Geezy, but I want to check out some other options first."

McNeal's top three is believed to consist of LSU, Michigan St., and Arkansas.

McBride (LEFT) will remain at Tulane while Lawson (RIGHT) will take his talents to the NFL.

report courtesy Taylor Bisciotti, SEC Network

Tulane | QB McBride in, WR Lawson out at Tulane
    Sun, 24 Jan 2027 06:19:21 -0700
Taylor Bisciotti of ESPN's SEC Network reports that Tulane QB Jimmy McBride (89 ovr) will remain with the Green Wave for his redshirt senior season while WR Adam Lawson (88 ovr) has decided to forgo his senior season and enter the NFL Draft. McBride, 5-11 201 pounds and a former 4-star recruit out of North Carolina, had an incredible redshirt junior campaign, throwing for 4,108 yards along with 42 touchdowns and 10 interceptions, and his return is a big boost for a Tulane squad hoping to thrive despite losing its head coach of the past 17 seasons, D. Geezy, and moving on with new head coach Joe Roberts, who was previously the team's offensive coordinator the past two years.

Meanwhile, the 6-6 212 pound Lawson, who caught 69 passes for 1,530 yards and 17 touchdowns last year as a junior, did not mince words when sharing via Twitter his feelings on Geezy's unceremonious departure from the Green Wave two weeks ago, and on Sunday evening, he expanded on his thoughts once again via social media.

"I prayed on this for a while and it was a tough decision even before it happened, but the recent change at Tulane is not something I want to be a part of," said the former 4-star recruit out of Eunice, Louisiana in an Instagram statement. "I appreciate everything the university has done for me, but at this time, I am ready to pursue my NFL dream. #coachgeezy #loyalty"

Based on the depth chart you desperately need Scotty Rodgers. His brother Lucas sounds like a legit weapon at the TE position. To land that stud OLB would be a huge get for he defense as well. No surprise McBride returned as I believe NFL scouts probably aren’t sold on a 5’11” signal caller. Adam Lawson leaving Tulane for the pro draft was a no-brainer in everyone’s eyes.

Re: Coach Geezy in the Big Easy Part III: Legacy | From Bourbon St. to the Bayou

I know we discussed the reports and I knew the school was down, but I will be honest that I did not expect LSU to be that weak on paper. I think Mason is a stud and you got a nice tight end in Lucas. I figure with progression most of the offensive line should make it into the high 70's low 80's, despite only returning one starter.

The wheels start to come off the bus a little though when I look at your defense. The line should be fine and the safeties serviceable but those linebackers and corners scare me. Playing in the SEC where everyone is fast and big I worry about your ability to matchup with stud wideouts or tight ends. If people get past your line....

But this is Coach Geezy we are talking about, I know you (like me) will love that you have quite the building project ahead of you. I am so excited for this next chapter.

Looking at the prospects, my eyes of course light up at Scottie Rodgers. I am a power running guy more days than not and I think Scottie has a legit chance to be the guy for the next four years. And don't think I didn't notice the new reporter Carley.

Outside of Rodgers, I think J.J. could be a day one starter. I expect the talented Broussard will redshirt with your depth at tight end and you have a nice foundation for the future of the offensive line as well.

Same here. I'm actually happy that he stayed; it'll make for an even more fun game when we play them in the fall.

Glad you enjoy the female talent! They're certainly some great writers aren't they?

Thanks man. You have no idea how much I am itching to play with Rob Mason at QB, even if only in practice mode. I still have a bunch of steps before I get to that point, but as I stated in an earlier post, I really hope to put the Mike in "White Mike." I got big plans for that guy.

The backups aren't too shabby either.

Yes Scottie is a blessing for this depleted running back room. We will be razor-thin at RB in year 1. Kind of scary. Hopefully between Scottie and the running ability of Mike, I mean Rob, we can make due.

Lucas Rodgers, coming off the year he had, will be a pivotal part of our offense. It's not like we're exactly loaded at wide receiver, so him building on his 2026 campaign is critical for us.

Defensively, the same can be said for the linebacker room as far as depth, or lack there of. It is absolutely crucial that we land McNeal. With his speed and looking at what else we have at the position currently, he could/should be a day 1 starter if he finally decides to hard commit to the Tigers.

I was really hoping to play against both McBride and Lawson this season, but you're right - it is no surprise that Lawson decided to cash-in. He had an amazing career. It'll be interesting to see who steps up to replace him as McBride's #1 target between junior and former 4-star recruit Grant Brady and sophomore blue chip Steve Mosley. I will be following that team very closely all season long. The whole "following the team I assembled from afar" thing is going to be an interesting dynamic overall that I am curious to see how it plays out.

I agree with everything you say as far as the depth chart. The spots I am most concerned about are RB depth, the linebackers, and cornerbacks. We could be in for a long year at those spots. Like you said though, the rebuilding part of any dynasty is the most fun part. It would be no fun if I stepped into a situation with a team already built with 85+ rated players across the board.

Hopefully J.J. is starter material. We could really use another guy at LB, even if he comes in only rated in the 75 to 78 range. It could get ugly at that position if he turns out to be a bust.

Julius "Juice" Broussard is another guy that I am kind of "wait and see" on, but you may be right in that the redshirt would be the best move. I haven't ruled out possibly moving one of the tight ends to fullback.

Glad you like Carley. She's new in town and seems to have a sudden interest in LSU now that Geezy is there. It's also crazy that Eve Jewell got her a big national gig at ESPN just as Geezy left Tulane and she's somehow still getting the scoop on his team. Weird.

Re: Coach Geezy in the Big Easy Part III: Legacy | From Bourbon St. to the Bayou

Recruiting wise, Rodgers is a huge get. He should factor into the lineup on day one, as Johnson does not look ready for Saturdays unfortunately. Mason should be the key to respectability in year one, but the talent level on the offensive side of the ball is pretty dire right now. That said, it's not much better defensively, with the linebacker corps looking particularly barren, yikes. Geezy will definitely have the opportunity to build the team in his image once he starts bringing some recruits in, but it could be a tough couple of years to fight through before some real championship talk can finally start setting in to Baton Rouge.

I like the defensive coordinator talk with the scheme possibilities. I definitely have to do a better job in my own dynasty of factoring in the coordinators' preferred schemes to add a little more realism. What do things look like scheme wise offensively?

Also, it'll be interesting to see how McBride does in his NFL audition season without Geezy at the helm!

I like the thought to bring in DeJean for a couple of reasons. The 4-2-5 defense would be something new and unique for you while also allowing you to mask your weakness at the linebacker position to some extent. Secondly, I think it will be good for Geezy to surround himself with familiar faces and bring in some of his former players.

I will be curious also to see how the Tulane coaching staff plays out and if that changes their schemes any.

I would describe my scheme at Tulane as West Coast style but versatile. High-percentage passes, a lot of screens and passes to RBs, but also balanced. Think Sean Payton/New Orleans Saints.

I will probably utilize a similar philosophy with the Tigers, but I am going through several different options right now, one of which is to simply keep the same playbook I had in my final seasons at Tulane - Ole Miss.

I'm afraid you may be right in that this could take a season or two to get the roster fixed. While I do think the roster will look a lot better once a few of those low 70s guys advance into the 80s via progression, there are still enough problem areas that are likely to hold us back in the early going.

I'm really anxious to advance through the off-season recruiting to see if we can nab another stud or 3, because we surely need them. As you'll see in a moment, through two weeks of off-season recruiting, we have a few good players interested in coming to Baton Rouge that could potentially help right away.

As for offensive scheme, as mentioned above, I don't see myself deviating from my past play style too much, however, with Rob Mason, I certainly envision utilizing a lot more QB runs than I have in the past, both with designed runs as well as with planned scrambles.

You read my mind with the 4-2-5. I've been wanting to use that playbook for the past couple of years, and the current personnel at LSU seems to be a good fit for it due to our lack of LBs. If we can hopefully get Will McNeal to fully commit, he and J.J. Brooks would make for a very good pair to start with. I also think the senior Justin Harris' speed could be put to good use as far as depth and on special teams.

I still have a few more "interviews" to do on both sides of the ball ("interviews" a.k.a. playbooks to study).

                          Thu, 28 Jan 2027 10:20:36 -0700
MaxPreps reports that 4-star CB Ryan Carter (6-2, 176, 4.46 40 time, #14 rated CB) has narrowed his list of school choices down to Alabama, LSU, and USC. The Rayne, Louisiana native will visit with LSU officials this upcoming weekend at his home, however it is believed that the Crimson Tide is currently the slight favorite to land his services.

The long and rangy defender, who is the nation's #246 prospect overall, could possibly compete for immediate playing time in LSU's razor-thin secondary if he chooses to sign with his home state Tigers.

Carter's half brother and Kentucky prospect, WR Brady Carter Jr., also has LSU in his top 3. The two were separated when Ryan's mother relocated to Louisiana following the aftermath of Hurricane Ramone in 2023. Despite the familial ties, the pair is reportedly not particularly guaranteed to be a package deal for any school.

MaxPreps reports that 4-star WR Brady Carter Jr. (6-0, 163, 4.38 40 time, #6 rated WR) has narrowed his list of school choices down to LSU, Missouri, and TCU. The Campbellsville, Kentucky native will visit with LSU officials this upcoming weekend at his home, however it is believed that the Horned Frogs currently are the favorite to land his services.

The speedy wideout, who is the nation's #79 prospect overall, could possibly compete for immediate playing time at LSU and would bolster the team's overall offensive speed tremendously.

Carter Jr.'s half brother and Louisiana prospect, CB Ryan Carter, also has LSU in his top 3. The two were separated when Ryan's mother relocated to Louisiana following the aftermath of Hurricane Ramone in 2023. Born just two months apart, the Carter brothers' father was apparently a busy man 18 years ago.

Recruiting | 4-star QB Franklin narrows list
                          Thu, 28 Jan 2027 10:29:24 -0700
MaxPreps reports that 4-star QB Jimmy Franklin (6-2, 241, 4.98 40 time, #7 rated QB) has narrowed his list of school choices down to Boise St., LSU and Southern Miss. The Morton, Mississippi native will visit with LSU officials this upcoming weekend at his home. Franklin soft-committed to the Golden Eagles during the early signing period this past fall and they remain the favorite for his services, however that soft-commitment was put in some doubt when USM got a hard commitment from Florida blue chip QB Lionel McIntyre (6-1, 220 pounds, 4.74 40-time, #3 rated QB) just a few weeks later.

The pocket passer with a rocket arm, who is the nation's #92 prospect overall, would likely be a redshirt candidate with the Tigers, with junior starting QB Rob Mason set to return to Baton Rouge next fall. If LSU is successfully able to flip Franklin's commitment to Southern Miss, he could potentially be the Tigers' quarterback of the future.

Recruiting | 4-star DT Williams narrows list
                          Thu, 28 Jan 2027 10:32:15 -0700
MaxPreps reports that 4-star DT Eric Williams (6-6, 269, #9 rated DT) has narrowed his list of school choices down to LSU, Texas, and Texas A&M. The Canyon Lake, Texas native will visit with LSU officials this upcoming weekend at his home, however it is believed that Williams prefers to play closer to home.

The mammoth defensive tackle, who is the nation's #128 prospect overall, would immediately bolster LSU's interior line depth, as the team only returns three players at defensive tackle next season.

Love the recruiting updates and the back stories you give these kids. To be able to grab even just 2 of those recruits would be a huge boost to this program going forward.

Some good recruits with good stories. Hopefully you can reel them in and really get a head start on the future of LSU. I miss the old offseason recruiting where you had something like 5 weeks of it. In 14 it’s just 15k points, spend em once and pray.

I like the 4-2-5 idea. I’ve personally never run it, but always found it extremely challenging to beat.

I know Southern Miss has been performing well on the field in your dynasty, but it's still surprising to see them as well as Boise State going toe-to-toe with a big name program like LSU on the recruiting trail. Whether Franklin signs with you or Southern Miss, he'll definitely be a thorn in Tulane's side for a few seasons.

I continue to be impressed by the world building dynamic you construct, whether it was Jamie Manning being related to Peyton and Eli or even now with the Carter brothers being related despite living in separate states (something I can relate to, my older brother graduated from HS in VA and then we moved and I graduated a year later in NC - even my younger brother and I have different last names). It's so subtle to do but if makes a huge impact for realism to those who notice which you know people who read your work do.
