Re: Coach Geezy in the Big Easy Part III: Legacy | From Bourbon St. to the Bayou

Easy there Dennis Green, Rome wasn't built in a day. Man that takes me back, I remember watching that Cardinals Bears game back in high school and seeing that press conference live. Just crazy to think it has been that long.

Disheartening to blow the lead in this one and to come so close just to let it slip through the hands (pun intended). Like I said though, we knew this wasn't going to be an overnight championship contender. Remember back to how things started at Tulane (a loss to a division II school).

The freshman played...well, like freshman. I think this is still a promising beginning and bouncing back next week is important. You don't want to get too far behind the eight ball before even starting the conference gauntlet.

Absolutely loved the presentation and layout. It really showed through in the pictures and presentation that everything just felt bigger and more important being at LSU. You really captured the grander scale compared to your days at Tulane. Also love that you snuck in that snapshot from NCAA '14 of coach Geezy making his coaching debut. I loved some of the presentation shots like that they did in the newer games.

Can't wait to see the next week and also very curious to see how Tulane handles Michigan. Hang in there man!

I think Cheese summed that one up perfectly, absolutely gutting to see the lead slip away like that.

I think from the image alone, it is pretty clear to see that Brady Carter Jr. took his eyes off the ball, he is looking more towards the moon than anywhere he should have been looking, but he's a true freshman so I will let him have this one.

Really love the choice to run with the purple and yellow, love this combo and they look really good in the game, almost makes me want to go back from '14 to '13 at times.

Great game, almost there, just a thong team couldn't close.

Plus, I was rooting for my 'Noles anyways! Now you can get it going.

What a finish. Obviously an absolute heartbreaker, but talk about a way to get some real excitement and storylines out of your first matchup, not that this season wasn't full of storylines already! The atmosphere at Tiger Stadium looked breathtaking, and those purple and gold unis really popped! Love the use of those.

Was your controller able to survive that Carter drop?! That would've been the time to just put it through the wall or floor haha, reminds me of when I had a receiver fumble on the potential game winning drive in the ACC Championship in my first season with Pitt... it sucks the absolute life out of you.

In spite of all that, the defense put up a competent performance if nothing else, and the offense as well. The turnovers were absolutely huge, and you'll have to start finding the endzone on the offensive side of the ball soon (10 points offensively isn't going to do it for you), but there were definitely building blocks to be happy about moving forward.

Next week against Texas Tech is HUGE. Definitely don't want to head into New Orleans for a grudge match if your squad is sputtering and winless after two contests.

well that's a tough start to the season. What was the main issue with your offense? I'd have expected more points with that QB.

A lot of times what's frustrating while you're playing the games turns out to be a good storyline.

Heartbreaking way to lose with what could have been a game winning touchdown. That being said, a solid showing for a first game under Geezy. Rebuilding takes time, mistakes will happen, and players need time to adjust to new schemes/systems. I'd say a 1 score loss to a ranked opponent is a good start.

Tough first game out against a top 10 team, but being that close to pulling off a win over a top 10 team still has to be a positive, right? Also those game screenshots look amazing.

Haha, yeah I have no idea why Dennis Green was on my mind when I wrote that article, but glad you enjoyed it. Guess when you think about it, Arizona blew a 23-3 lead that night, so it was really very similar circumstances.

I wasn't expecting to be an overnight contender, and as you and I always say, the losses are definitely a breath of fresh air typically from a reporting standpoint, however this was a game I really wanted to win. While I am happy about the early season adversity, I just really wanted that opening statement win, especially after having beating Florida St. on my mind for literally weeks. But it is also nice to know that my slider settings are still on-point. The #23 team in the nation losing a close battle at home versus the #10 team in the nation due to errors by a few freshmen that are forced into big roles - I mean, how much more realistic can it get?

The freshmen definitely all looked like young players. Hopefully my guy Brady Carter Jr. can bounce back.

Glad you enjoyed the presentation and noticed that I put some effort into setting the scene for this particular game and really this phase of the dynasty as a whole. This certainly felt like a much bigger game than I have ever experienced as a home team with Tulane. I can only imagine what it is going to be like when we're actually going at it with Bama or Tulane at Tiger Stadium with an SEC West title and/or more on the line.

Nice callback on the loss to Southeastern to start this dynasty. We've come a long way since screenshots that looked like this:

Crazy to think that this is really the same video game. Also unbelievable to think that that was literally 9 years ago in real time that I played that game.

Happy to see you enjoyed the Coach Geezy pic (big shout out to Hellisan for hooking me up with some material to spice things up). Still seems kind of surreal to see my guy Coach Geezy wearing purple.

Thanks, Tearz. My heart sank after Brady dropped that ball. I pretty much knew right then and there that that wasn't going to be our night.

Those purple and yellow unis with the black shoes were definitely poppin' though. I'm looking forward to mixing things up with their uniforms and breaking away from the "wear white on gold virtually every freaking game" tradition that they have in real life.

Yes sir it was...sadly, it was about the third or fourth big drop in that game for my receiving corps, virtually all coming on crucial third downs or, in this case, a crucial moment.

That said, it felt real and it is my own fault for targeting a true freshman in that moment. I had the matchup I wanted though - my fastest guy against their slowest defender (the strong safety with 77 speed) - it just didn't work out.

Haha...yeah, thankfully I have never been a "throw the controller" guy. Besides, I don't want to risk messing up the Right Stick, which is still absolutely perfectly flawed at the moment, which makes place-kicking a bit of an adventure (hence my field goal miss from 21 yards away before halftime!)

I too came away happy with the way we played overall. We left some points and yards on the field obviously, but I definitely learned that we can play with a top 10 team, which is encouraging.

I am trying not to look ahead to that Tulane game, because Texas Tech and their unorthodox playing style could cause us some issues if we don't take them seriously, similar to the problems I had with Southern Miss and their spread attack in my Tulane dynasty.

Coach Geezy will address the offensive problems in the next update right after this post, but you're right, we have no excuses to not put up more points when we have a QB with the speed of Rob Mason.

And definitely agree that this game gives us some nice storylines going forward. It'll be interesting to see if Brady Carter Jr. in particular can get past this.

Good point about adjusting to new schemes...with this being the first year with this playbook, there was a moment or two in crunch time where I literally had no idea what play to call and admittedly kind of froze. It'll take a few games for me to learn the playbook inside-and-out and be able to make playcalls like they're second nature, and that feels very realistic.

Thanks brother...agreed, there are a lot of positives to come out of this one, and in the back of my mind, I know we didn't play very well and still almost came away with the 'W,' so that in itself is encouraging.

LSU | Geezy regrets not getting TE Rodgers more involed
                        Sun, 29 Aug 2027 03:21:35 -0700
Carley McCord of WDSU-TV New Orleans reports that in a supposed series of late night texts at 3:00 in the morning, LSU head coach D. Geezy cited red zone issues and three critical drive-killing drops as keys to the team's 28-24 loss Saturday night versus Florida St., and believes the solution could be more targets for junior TE Lucas Rodgers.

"When we watch the tape from the other night, what stands out is that we looked very poor once we got down close to the goal line," said the first year Tigers head coach in the "text" to McCord. "Lucas is and has been a big asset for this team the past couple of seasons down in the red area and on third downs, and we need to look for more ways to get him the football moving forward.

"He caught 94 passes for 1,195 yards in 2025 and 80 passes for 1,015 yards in 2026 and also has 14 career touchdowns. Three receptions against the #10 team in the nation isn't going to cut it, and we will get that fixed."

LSU | Carter Jr. vows redemption
                        Tue, 31 Aug 2027 17:14:27 -0700
Molly McGrath of ESPN reports that true freshman WR Brady Carter Jr., whose drop late in this past weekend's loss to Florida St. likely cost his team the ball game, is using the mistake as motivation. Carter Jr., who was seen in the postgame locker room in tears with a towel over his head by several members of the media following Saturday's game, addressed the media after practice on Tuesday, apparently at the urging of head coach D. Geezy.

"Me and Coach D just talked on Sunday about not turning my back on adversity and taking it head-on, so here I am" said Carter Jr., a 4-star recruit out of Kentucky this past off-season. "I know what my game is about and I know that 99 times out of 100, I make that catch. I think I just lost the ball in the lights.

"In the end, I just have to get my mind right and use this as fuel, you know what I'm saying? I'm going to put some more time in with the JUGS machine and do what I can to not let this happen again. Coach D and Coach (Anthony) High said they going to keep going to me, so I gotta be ready."

LSU | Pair of 4-star defenders commit
                        Tue, 31 Aug 2027 19:12:35 -0700
Eve Jewell of ESPN's SEC Network reports that LSU landed its first two commits for 2028 this past weekend, getting hard commitments from Arkansas 4-star CB Anthony Hardy (5-11, 170, 4.60 40-time, #11 CB prospect) and Louisiana 4-star DE Derek Holley (6-4, 209, 4.66 40-time, #15 DE prospect).

Hardy, a Maumelle, Arkansas native, is considered a "technician" corner that is likely more suited for slot coverage duties due to his lack of pure foot speed. Rivals.com reported that some teams view him as a potential safety at the next level due to his pedestrian 4.6 40-time, but with the Tigers' defensive backfield depth extremely thin, the team could use any help it can get.

Holley, a Lake Providence, Louisiana native, could find a role early in his career in Baton Rouge, with starting defensive ends Lawrence Hicks and Joel McFarland both playing in their senior years with the Tigers. However, at 6-4 and only 209 pounds, some view him as a tweener, which could make him a candidate for the team's "Buck" position in LSU defensive coordinator Charles Kelly's 4-2-5 scheme.

Yeah, I can absolutely imagine that at three in the morning Geezy would be texting her about a "tight end" eh?

Thanks man...I must admit that it isn't the sexiest pair of recruits, but this roster could use any 4-star talent it can get at this stage. At worst, with a redshirt, they both should be very solid pieces 3 or 4 seasons from now.

What kind of program do you think this is?!

In all seriousness though, I must say that I was upset at myself when I saw the final box score. Based on Lucas Rodgers' production before Coach Geezy's arrival, we gotta get this guy more targets each week, and that starts with this next game on Saturday.
