Coach Geezy with the Scott Frost-esque 2nd year bump. Looks like it will be a big year in BR!

Interesting parallel. Things seem to suddenly be clicking on all cylinders for us, though I can virtually guarantee you that Coach Geezy won't be bolting after year 2 like Frost did.

Still a long way to go though; this is only week 4!

Game 4, Year 2 Preview (2028 season): #21 Georgia Bulldogs at #18 LSU Tigers

        GAME 4 PREVIEW

Latest Line (courtesy Bovada - Las Vegas):

        ....................13 1/2....................

2026: The last time LSU head coach D. Geezy faced Georgia came two seasons ago in Athens, and current Tulane RB Teddy Jenkins, whose younger cousin T.J. committed to LSU last month, finished the game with 48 rushing yards and a touchdown during the then-6th ranked Wave's big victory.

Game Capsule: LSU will open up SEC play this week with a bout versus #21 Georgia. The Bulldogs are coming off of a 19-3 upset win at #15 South Carolina, and will be looking for their first win versus the Tigers since 2019. The last time the two teams met came in 2024, a game LSU won 41-29 in Athens.

Tigers second year head coach D. Geezy holds a perfect 6-0 record versus Georgia, with all six wins coming during his 17-year stint as the head coach at LSU's SEC rival Tulane, including a 38-20 win between the hedges in 2026.

The Bulldogs will be hoping that its stingy defense, which has only give up 3 points through two games this season, can contain LSU's potent offense, which currently ranks #1 in the nation in yardage (1,542) and #3 in points per game (48.0). Meanwhile, the Tigers, who will face the rival Tulane after their clash with Georgia, hope to remain focused for another week and improve their team's record to 4-0 for the first time since 2013.

Bury them, like Khrushchev said. Their ranking is a mirage. "Leave no doubt," like Coach Yost said on Remember the Titans. Crush them into the dirt. Haha.

Do not let this team stay on the field with you, but don't get caught looking past them to the Tiger Rag game.

With eight ranked teams on the schedule, it's not unlikely to drop one eventually, but you have all the momentum right now. There's no real breaks on your schedule by those numbers, but by ratings this one shouldn't be as hard as some of the others.

After giving up 45 points last game, it's going to be on the defense to set the tone in this one. LSU will absolutely need to focus on Georgia and not worry about Tulane on deck (more like Coach Geezy needs to not look ahead but I digress). Georgia's lineup looks like they belong in the Sun Belt, smh.

Definitely looking forward to whether he's throwing shade or lauding praise on his old place.

I agree with everything you said. And yes, the moment I started typing out their lineup, I realized that their #21 ranking, at least in terms of talent, seems a bit over-inflated. That said, we must make sure they don't break-off any fluky long runs and also do a good job of not letting the speedster Henry Irvin get behind our secondary.

With the way the schedule lays out the rest of the way, a game like this is one we absolutely must win.

P.S. I just realized I missed addressing your previous comment about Oklahoma being at the tail-end of our schedule. The simple answer to that is, we had no choice. That was the only possible fit in our schedule in order to get all four of our "contractual" non-conference opponents scheduled. We ended last regular season in Norman though, so it is only fitting.

Not going to lie, I found it hard this week focusing much on Georgia. Aside from just being very busy with work and life in general, I must admit that I have had a hard time getting up for this one. It almost feels like a real life team about to get caught napping; hopefully I snap out of it when the game kicks off.

That said, our offense is clicking on all cylinders, and I don't know if they have what it takes to stop the Scottie-train.

Hmmm, we shall see. Coach Geezy's mood next week may depend on how things go against Georgia.

Ha...I absolutely knew I could count on somebody pointing that correlation out. What's even funnier is that the game gave him #17, Jim's number with the Saints.

That clip will always be an oldie but goodie.

Thanks for checking in all...time to kick this one off and hopefully hammer these Bulldogs on this fine Saturday morning.

Game 4, Year 2 (2028 season): #21 Georgia Bulldogs at #14 LSU Tigers

                    #21 17 -- 2-1 (0-1)
                    #14 19 -- 4-0 (1-0)

RB Scottie Rodgers' fourth quarter 13-yard touchdown reception gave LSU just enough cushion in their SEC opener.

#14 LSU almost caught sleep-walking, holds on late for a nail-biting 19-17 victory over #21 Georgia in SEC opener to remain unbeaten | Coming into the week ranked #1 in the nation in total offense, Tigers struggle to put up points versus a very-game Bulldogs defense | Despite the team's first 4-0 start since 2013, Geezy cautions that there is still a long way to go | All eyes will be on Baton Rouge this week with heavyweight bout versus veteran head coach's former school Tulane next on the docket for LSU

Baton Rouge, LA -- #14 LSU came into this weekend's contest versus #21 Georgia as 13 1/2 point favorites, but many prognosticators wondered if the team would be caught looking ahead to next week's rivalry battle with Tulane. Though there is no way that theory could be 100% proven, the Tigers did nevertheless get all they could handle and more from the Bulldogs, but were ultimately able to escape with a razor-thin 19-17 victory Saturday in Baton Rouge.

Last year's poaching of former Tulane head coach D. Geezy is starting to pay dividends for the Tigers, as the LSU faithful in attendance witnessed their team improve to 4-0 for the first time in 15 years.

LSU led for most of the contest, but redzone woes got the best of a Tigers offense that came into the weekend ranked 1st in the nation in total yardage and 3rd in the nation in points per game. The Bulldogs defense, which had only given up a grand total of 3 points through two games going into Saturday's matchup, stymied the Tigers' potent offense, proving that their strong start to the 2028 season was no fluke, but in the end it was not enough, as LSU improved its record to 4-0, its best start since 2013.

Outside of Georgia starting RB Russell Norwood suffering a season-ending shoulder injury in the second quarter after a strong start to the game, the two SEC divisional crossover foes played to a virtually drama-less first half, and the Tigers led 9-3 at the break. LSU star RB Scottie Rodgers was held to just 8 carries for 20 yards at the half, as the Bulldogs' 3-4 defense gave the Heisman contender fits for most of the afternoon.

Georgia (2-1) took its first lead of the game midway through the third quarter when true freshman back RB Erik Jones found the end zone from one yard away, giving his team a 10-9 advantage following an 8-play 73-yard possession. Jones, who will now likely play a much bigger role for his team following Norwood's injury, finished the game with 7 carries for 35 yards.

That brief lead for the Bulldogs would not last long though, as the Tigers would subsequently go on a 13 play, 73 yard march, taking up nearly four minutes of possession time. The drive culminated with a 29-yard field goal by sophomore PK Ross Bryant, allowing the Tigers to reclaim the lead at 12-10 late in the third quarter. Bryant finished the contest 4 of 4 on field goal attempts, making him a perfect 8 of 8 so far this season.

Early in the fourth quarter, Georgia had an opportunity to re-take the lead, and penetrated past midfield and into Tigers territory. However, Jones would get stopped behind the line of scrimmage by LSU senior FS Mario Reed on 4th and inches, turning the ball over at the 47-yard line with 7:31 remaining.

Following the big fourth down stop, the Tigers went on a 5-play 53-yard drive which ended with QB Rob Mason finding RB Scottie Rogers for a 13-yard touchdown, extending LSU's lead to 19-10 with just over six minutes remaining. Mason finished the game a solid 20 of 35 for 290 yards and a touchdown, but he did make one critical mistake late that nearly cost his team the ballgame.

After having a career-game a week ago, QB Rob Mason had trouble finding success versus Georgia's ferocious 3-4 defense, even though he did finish with 290 yards through the air.
After getting the ball back following a defensive stop with just under three minutes remaining, the Tigers had the opportunity to get a few first downs to milk clock and put the game away. However, an ill-advised pass attempt by Mason to Rodgers would get picked off by Bulldogs CB Billy Cleveland, giving the Bulldogs new life.

"The corner showed a bail look I thought but ended up sitting in zone and just made a great play," said Mason, who has thrown only 2 interceptions this season despite coming into the year with a history of turnover woes. "I just gotta be more careful, especially in a situation where the game is on the line."

Georgia would eventually score following Mason's turnover when QB Chris Everett found FB Jaron Minor for a 3-yard touchdown, cutting their deficit to 19-17 with 1:18 to go. However, an illegal touching penalty on the subsequent onside kick attempt would give LSU the ball back for good.

A 9-yard run by Rodgers was followed up by a 5-yard run for a first down, and that was enough to allow the Tigers to run out the rest of the clock on kneel downs. Rodgers finished the game with an unspectacular but respectable 16 carries for 66 yards to go along with 5 receptions for 46 yards and the earlier mentioned touchdown.

"I thought their defense was outstanding, very well coached," said LSU head coach D. Geezy. "They gave us a lot of issues and completely took away TE Lucas Rodgers and also didn't allow very many big runs. They came in having only given up 3 points through two weeks, and it was very evident why and how."

"Thankfully we did just enough to come away with the win in the end. It wasn't pretty at all, but hey, a win is a win."

LSU will now turn its full attention to next week's huge matchup with in-state SEC rival Tulane, a school Geezy coached for 17 seasons prior to his arrival in Baton Rouge last season. The Green Wave (2-1) demolished the Tigers last year in a 49-21 rout at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, a game in which LSU failed to score a single offensive point. An annual matchup since 2012, Tulane currently holds a whopping 11-game winning streak against the Tigers, with 10 of those 11 wins coming with Geezy as the Wave's head coach.

"We're all excited about the great start," said Geezy of the team's first 4-0 in 15 years. "At the end of the day though, it's not about how you start, it's how you finish. This game we have coming up next week is critical for so many reasons, not just in terms of the standings.

"You won't hear me speak like this very often, but to get to where we want to go as a program, we're going to have to beat Tulane next week, point blank. To heck with it, I am just going to say it, we will beat Tulane next week and end this streak. We believe in it, we want our players to believe that, and we want our fans that'll be in the stadium to believe that. It's time."

                    Game Footage

Up just 12-10 at the end of the third quarter, LSU got all it could handle in an action-packed final period versus the 21st ranked Bulldogs.

As is tradition, LSU players tapped The Win Bar as they ran onto the field Saturday at Tiger Stadium, hoping to keep their early season winning streak alive.

LSU nickel CB Jerome Harmon, whose fourth quarter interception return for a touchdown provided the game-winning points during last week's 51-45 win versus Texas A&M, picked up right where he left off this week, snagging this interception on Georgia's opening possession.

Georgia RB Russell Norwood was explosive early in the contest, finishing with a game-high 75 yards on only 7 carries, including this 49-yard first half run. However, the Bulldogs' starter would unfortunately leave the game in the second quarter with a torn labrum injury that's expected to keep him out for the remainder of the 2028 campaign.

A few plays following Norwood's long run, Tigers senior FS Mario Reed holds up the fourth down signal following a big third down stop, a stop which eventually led to a missed 53-yard field goal by Georgia freshman PK Mike Robinson, keeping LSU on top 3-0 early.

Made fun of by an LSU fans on message boards this week because of his name being similar to former women's tennis star Chris Evert, Bulldogs QB Chris Everett showed a lot of toughness by not allowing a late second quarter rib injury to keep him out of the game for very long.

Clearly a key point of emphasis in Georgia's defensive gameplan this week, LSU TE Lucas Rodgers was held to just this 1 catch for 24 yards, as the senior star faced bracket coverage most of the afternoon.

Georgia CB Billy Cleveland had himself a hell of a game, coming up with this second half sack, and then later made an even bigger play.

Helping to replace an injured Norwood, Georgia backup RB Erik Jones' 1-yard touchdown run gave the Bulldogs a 10-9 third quarter advantage. Jones, who will now see a much bigger workload for his team moving forward, finished with 7 carries for 35 yards.

Upset-minded Georgia fans were hyped up following Jones' go-ahead touchdown, however a field goal on LSU's next drive would eventually give the Tigers back the lead at 12-10 late in the third period.

Pic 1 of 2: Following a fourth quarter turnover on downs by the Georiga offense with the Tigers already up 12-10, LSU QB Rob Mason took advantage of a short field and found RB Scottie Rodgers in the flat in the red zone.

Pic 2 of 2: Rodgers, the sophomore sensation who was a new edition to this week's ESPN Heisman Watch List, turned the short reception upfield and ran through CB Rodney Gray's tackle attempt near the goal line for this 13-yard fourth quarter touchdown which increased LSU's lead to 19-10 with 6:08 to go.

Pic 1 of 2: With his team down by 9, Cleveland's interception with just under three minutes remaining gave the Bulldogs new life.

Pic 2 of 2: Mason's touchdown-saving tackle on Cleveland paid dividends for LSU, as though Georgia would eventually score a touchdown with 1:18 remaining, they'd never see the ball back after wasting so much clock.

Following the game's final kneel-down, the Tigers offensive line celebrated with their senior captain Mason, as LSU improved its record to 4-0 for the first time since all the way back in 2013.

Mason and Cleveland showed class towards each other at the end of Saturday afternoon's hard-fought back and forth battle.

Got a bit to catch up on, but great start to the season, hopefully this early success can prove to be sustainable for 'ol Red Stick.

Close games like that, especially against teams you could/should be beating handily are never fun. Should be a good wake-up call for your guys though, hopefully the "sleepwalking" means that extra energy/effort they saved goes into next week's contest! Can't wait to see the matchup on paper. LOVE Coach Geezy's quote at the end.. he seems, reasonably so, more motivated than we've ever seen him.

I was a big fan of the Southern Miss mini-dynasty but I'm sad to see they've fallen off the national landscape. Nevertheless, USC-Nevada has me amped and I'm HERE FOR IT.

got to fully read the last few entries when I have a few minutes but after a quick scan this came to mind:

Limp Bizkit? We're gonna have to fumigate the thread. I hope Tulane isn't too pumped up by Coach Geezy's declaration. That could be a problem. Congratulations on 4-0!

I rather enjoyed the close game. As I alluded to prior to the game, I could feel myself mentally not being as up for this matchup as I would be if it was a bigger opponent, especially after seeing how lackluster their roster was. It literally felt like a real life trap game going in and while playing it, but thankfully we were able to come out on top and still get the W despite shoddy play.

I, I mean, Coach Geezy, is as dialed in as ever! It has been a full decade now since he has won a national championship, so he is as hungry as he has ever been. This next game is a must win. We absolutely HAVE to get over this Tulane bugaboo in order to get ourselves to the next level.

Glad you brought up Southern Miss; they've kind of fell off radar here it seems, but they're still on the map. They're a 5-star prestige program, sitting at 2-1, though they did lose to Troy 27-20 to open the season. They're ranked #38 in the nation right now, and their roster is still stacked. Of note, we play them next season in Hattiesburg, and Coach Geezy has lost each of his last four games at their place, dating back to 2019.

LOL...Indeed we are rolling. I am feeling very good about things right now, but we have to somehow manage to not get too full of ourselves. As we learned these past two games, we are still very vulnerable if we don't bring our 'A' game for four quarters each week.

I don't know enough about Limp Bizkit to understand that comment, but I take it you don't like them.

I have a feeling that head coach Joe Roberts and the Green Wave brass may have a thing or two to say about Geezy this week after his postgame comments following the Georiga game.

Thanks for checking in all. Taking a bit of a break from this on this Saturday, as the family and I are set to make the trek over to Baton Rouge to move our oldest son into his dorm at LSU today. For those of you that have been following my work for a while, yes this is the same son that I once played a Northwestern dynasty with back in the day when he was 6 years old.

Fun little side nugget - so we are helping him pack his things earlier in the week and I came across his laptop, which had a pretty random sticker on it. A somewhat fitting coincidence considering my next opponent:

Worth pointing out that Lil' Geezy has no clue about what's going on in my dynasty, or that his old man has a game against Tulane coming up next. I didn't even know he was aware that there even was a rivalry between the two schools. But I figured this was too cool not to share on here.
