    SEPTEMBER AFC RECAP

    AFC NORTH

    Cincinnati Bengals(2-1)

The defending North Champions are coming off a Week 4 BYE and look to make a push for another Division Title. Quarterback Andy Dalton is playing MVP level right with 10 Touchdowns and almost 1,000 yards. Marvin Lewis has done a phenomenal job so far.

    Baltimore Ravens(2-2)

The Ravens are in turmoil after Franchise Quarterback Joe Flacco ruptured his disk on Opening Day resulting in him being hurt for 8 games. Baltimore has turned to backup Tyrod Taylor to lead the Ravens for the first half of the year. Should the Ravens have a rough year it's no secret that Head Coach John Harbaugh should get a pass. The Ravens still rock top ten offense and defense entering Week 5. A boost in their run game should help as Running Back Ray Rice is returning after being hurt.

    Pittsburgh Steelers(2-2)

The Steel Crew should be atop of the North with Flacco hurt however it's not the case. Drama has struck Pittsburgh this month with Quarterback Ben Roetthlisberger throwing his teammates under the bus on his Radio show after a ugly loss. The Steelers will need to put their differences aside as October approaches. Head Coach Mike Tomlin has had conversations with his Quarterback about his Radio show. Should Pittsburgh struggle and the team at a crossroads, Pittsburgh will be in for some massive changes in January.

    Cleveland Browns(1-2)

In desperate need of a makeover, Cleveland fired Rob Chudzinski after 4-12. The Dawg Pound hired Defensive Coordinator Mike Pettine to be the next Head Coach. Despite walking into a complete mess, Pettine was up for the challenge. Cleveland is rocking a Defensive unit ranked 12th overall. However their Offense has got off to a slow start as Quarterback Brian Hoyer was nursing a foot injury, Rookie Johnny Manziel rupturing a disk in his back and RB CJ Mintshaw with a broken collarbone. The Browns look to keep building as the year goes on.

    AFC EAST

    New England Patriots(3-1)

After a upset loss in South Beach, New England has won 3 straight. The Patriots are firing on all cylinders coming off a shootout win in Kansas City. Brady playing like the MVP he is and newly acquired Corner Darelle Revis leads the league in Interceptions. Belichick's crew should be the easy favorites to win the AFC.

    Buffalo Bills(2-2)

The Buffalo Bills are still in rebuild mode with Head Coach Doug Marrone. Even under new Ownership after the death of Ralph Wilson, Buffalo is committed to Marrone. The Bills sit in second place currently and are a mess at the Quarterback Position. It's no secret that Buffalo has been playing "Musical QB's" this year as the team searches for the Franchise QB. On the defense however, Buffalo is a monster under new Defensive Coordinator Jim Schwartz. The Bills rank 3rd in Sacks, 4th in Points allowed, 23rd in Yards allowed. However their main area of concern is in their Secondary as Buffalo has only registered just one Interception all year. The Bills look to keep building as October approaches.

    Miami Dolphins(2-2)

Former Packers Offensive Coordinator Joe Philbin has done a decent job in South Beach. The Phins enter their Week 5 BYE and will get Quarterback Ryan Tannehill back healthy after breaking ribs weeks ago. The Dolphins have rallied behind newly signed Marcus Vick who Philbin invited to Training Camp and signed. The Dolphins at 2-2 will look to keep pushing for January in October.

    New York Jets(2-2)

After multiple years of AFC Championship playoffs, the Jets have fallen on hard times. In 2013 they went 8-8 and cut Mark Sanchez in the Offseason. Quarterback Geno Smith is on I.R after tearing his achillies in Pre-Season. Head Coach Rex Ryan has turned to former USC Quarterback John David Booty to lead the 2014 Campaign. The Jets sit at 2-2 and the team has rallied around the Rookie Booty. New York has a top ten Offense and Defense even with newly signed Ed Reed to help boost the Secondary. The Jets are all in and Front Office have given Rex their boost of Confidence for the year. This could be the year the Jets return to the Playoffs.

    AFC SOUTH

    Houston Texans(2-2)

The Texans are off to a slow start under first year Head Coach Bill O'Brien. However they are still in first and the team has Fitzmagic under center. If the South continues to be bad then Houston could walk away with the South title. Otherwise depending on the rest of the year, Houston will need to make adjustments.

    Tennessee Titans(1-3)

The Titans fell victim to the "Injury Bug" this early in the Season. Quarterback Jake Locker has had some struggles thanks to this. Tennessee is trying to get healthy and now get TE Delanie Walker back to help boost Locker's Passing game. Coach Whisenhunt has his work cut out for him as the team is dealing with early struggles.

    Jacksonville Jaguars(1-3)

The Jags had to wait until Week 4 to get their first look at their #3 Pick Blake Bortles who broke his Collarbone in Pre-Season raising many eyebrows within the Front Office. He had his debut last week in the loss to the Chargers. Jacksonville will look to develop Bortles this year in hopes of making him their Franchise Quarterback.

    Indianapolis Colts(1-3)

Indy is in trouble. Quarterback Andrew Luck broke his Collarbone last week and is expected to miss 7 games. Head Coach Chuck Pagano should get a pass for this as Indy has fallen to 1-3 and will turn to Veteran Matt Hasselbeck to lead the team.

    AFC WEST

    Kansas City Chiefs(3-1)

KC leads the AFC West and they did it by dominating with their Defense. However a Week 4 loss to New England has proven that there's still work to be done in Kansas City. Head Coach Andy Reid looks to motivate his squad for a great year.

    San Diego Chargers(3-1)

Hot on the Chiefs tail are the Chargers. The Bolts have the 4th best Defense in the league and Phillip Rivers is back after missing some time with a shoulder injury. The Chargers should easily be a sleeper in the AFC.

    Denver Broncos(1-2)

After a embarrassing SB Rematch in Seattle, Denver went into their Week 4 BYE. The Sherriff is now leading the league in Interceptions and Denver is struggling out of the gate despite the #3 Defense. Head Coach John Fox hasn't pulled the trigger yet but sources say they have no worries of Manning's pitiful performance in September. Things look to be different in October.

    Oakland Raiders(0-4)

The Raiders are a mess. Oakland is rocking the worst Offense in the league and their Defense doesn't prove to be much better. Quarterback Matt Schaub got hurt although he had no business playing anyway as he has yet to throw a TD this year. Dennis Allen and his Staff are on short leashes with the Front Office. It's no secret that Mark Davis is not happy with the team this year but won't pull the trigger until the Offseason. It looks to be a rough year in Oakland.

PACKERS Rodgers 4 Touchdowns crush VIKINGS 42-17 on Thursday Night Football!

        RECAP

Green Bay, WI- The Minnesota Vikings(0-5) continue to sink in 2014 under their first year in the Zimmer era. Minnesota struggled to contain one of the greatest Quarterbacks ever, Aaron Rodgers.

"He's the best ever. I have nothing but respect for him, the things he does are just phenomenal." Vikings Head Coach Mike Zimmer stated.

Rodgers was 23/43 for 306 yards and 4 Touchdowns today. The Packers(3-2) pull within a game behind Chicago(4-1) for the Division lead.

Many remember last week's debacle in Chicago that cost the Packers the game. Rodgers and McCarthy have been having words afterwards.

Today's game proved differently however. But it could just be smoke and mirrors as it was the winless Vikings.

"Doesn't matter what their record is, it's a division opponent. Anytime you plan for those it takes extra effort." Packers Head Coach Mike McCarthy stated.

Vikings Quarterback Matt Cassel was 22/29 for 164 yards and a Touchdown.

"We did some things well early but fell apart in the second half." Vikings Quarterback Matt Cassel stated.

        THE RUN GAME

Both the Packers and Vikings struggled to stop the run as Eddie Lacy racked up 127 yards and a Touchdown.

Peterson picked up 125 yards and a TD.

Packers Defense continues to struggle moving forward and Head Coach Mike McCarthy continues to keep having words with Aaron Rodgers. However the Packers(3-2) are winning.

"I've said I've changed earlier but I'm going to coach the way I know how to." McCarthy said.

McCarthy appeared to have gone less conservative today as the Packers converted 3 fourth downs.

The Vikings we're helpless tonight at Lambeau Field as the Packers dominated the clock and racked up 555 total yards.

Minnesota's weakest link is the defense. Head Coach Mike Zimmer is rebuilding this year so changes will be coming this Offseason.

BEARS overcome 5 Turnovers to rally past PANTHERS 38-34!

          RECAP

Charlotte, NC- The Chicago Bears(4-1) are a team built on never giving up. Today was just another chapter in that story. Today's game between the Bears and Panthers was nothing short of amazing.

In a game that saw constant lead changes and 10 total turnovers, the Bears had more bite.

"That's why we play the game. Great games like that is what makes this sport special." Bears Head Coach Marc Trestman stated.

Both teams had great performance by their Defense as Quarterbacks Jay Cutler and Cam Newton combined for 7 interceptions today.

However it was Cam Newton who has been struggling all year having yet another bad day as he threw 3 Interceptions to just 1 touchdown.

This gives Cam Newton 3 Touchdowns to 8 interceptions this year.

It's showing for Carolina as well as they drop 4 straight and have slumped to a 1-4 record.

"It's a bad funk that I can't seem to get out of. I know I can play better and be much better." Panthers Quarterback Cam Newton stated.

"He's having a rough year so far and we all feel for him. We all love Cam." Panthers Head Coach Ron Rivera stated.

The Bears rallied past Carolina putting up 21 points in the 4th Quarter including the Game Winning Drive by Jay Cutler to his favorite target Brandon Marshall.

"This team has so much resiliency. Never quit. That's what make us a serious contender to everyone." Bears Head Coach Marc Trestman stated.

"We know we're never out of it when we have #6 on the field." Bears WR Brandon Marshall stated.

Hoyer returns, leads BROWNS epic comeback over TITANS in Nashville!

            RECAP

Nashville, TN- Quarterback Brian Hoyer suffered a foot injury back in Pre-Season and was missing time. The Cleveland Browns(2-2) was then forced to turn to rookie Quarterback Johnny Manziel to kick off the 2014 campaign. However things got bad for the Browns when Manziel went down in Week 2. Fast forward to today when Quarterback Brian Hoyer made his first start of the year and did it with a epic comeback over the struggling Titans.

Hoyer threw 2 Touchdowns and no turnovers as he led Cleveland on a 12 point 4th Quarter rally that put the Browns(2-2) past the Titans(1-4) with under a minute left.

WR Josh Gordon suffered a torn Abdomen and left early and will miss 4 games.

Philadelphia, PA- Don't let the 2-2 St. Louis Rams fool you. The Rams(2-2) have done a great job on defense this game as they made life miserable for the Philadelphia Eagles(2-3) who have now fallen under .500 this year with the upset loss.

In the loss, the Eagles now add to their Injury Report as Quarterback Nick Foles and Wideout Arellious Benn went down with injuries.

"Football is a brutal sport and injuries come with the game. It's never a good thing however when you see guys get hurt." Eagles Head Coach Chip Kelly stated.

The Eagles lost Foles late in the 4th Quarter when he was attempting a Game Winning Drive. Backup Mark Sanchez came in and failed to drive Philly down for the score. The Rams held on to win 31-30.

"It came down to the wire and it was grit and nails." Rams Head Coach Jeff Fisher stated. "Guys did great at digging in and holding on."

Philly will now move on with Mark Sanchez and rookie Carson Wentz who was just signed to a 1 year deal by Philadelphia hours after the diagnosis of Nick Foles. Foles will miss 5 games with a torn shoulder.

"Sucks to go down like that. I hate being on the sidelines cause now I can't help the team win." Quarterback Nick Foles stated.

                TURNOVERS

Both teams had 2 turnovers as both Quarterbacks were intercepted twice.

"We ran the ball very well today, they just did it better. We have a lot of work to do to get back to winning." Kelly stated.

Despite the injuries however, Philly racked up 628 yards and dominated the clock but fell by 1 point despite holding a 30-17 lead in the 4th Quarter.

"It's a tough pill to swallow from watching it up here." Eagles Owner Jeffrey Lurie stated.

Rams Quarterback Matt Simms who was traded from New York to St. Louis had a rough day in his first game as a Ram.

"Yeah it was a bad day but I can play much better." Simms stated.

The difference maker however was Rams Running Back Zac Stacy's 4 rushing Touchdowns.

"That's irrelevant now." Giants Head Coach Tom Coughlin stated. "That was Week 1. We just won 4 straight and now looking towards Week 6."

The Giants 4th win in a row came today when they smashed the struggling Atlanta Falcons(2-3).

Manning looked like the old Super Bowl MVP dropping 3 Touchdowns and 340 yards with no turnovers.

"It was bad. Nothing went right for us. " Ryan stated.

The Falcons are coming off a 4-12 2013 Season and things don't look to be getting better.

Falcons Head Coach Mike Smith's seat could be getting hotter.

Falcons Running Back Steven Jackson was held in check for most of the game finishing with 76 yards off 20 carries. Also a TD.

Giants Michael Cox was a beast racking up 78 yards off just 5 Carries and a score.

Manning found Touchdowns to Rashad Jennings, Kellen Davis, and Victor Cruz.

Julio Jones was well, Julio Jones. 9 Catches, 120 yards, 1 score.

                    The Falcons continue to struggle.

"We know what our record says but we also know the kind of character we have in the locker room." Falcons WR Julio Jones stated.

"It's still a long season for us and we know we have work to do to get to where we want to go." Falcons Head Coach Mike Smith stated.

                        RECAP

New Orleans, LA- Division games are always the toughest in the NFL. Today was no different. The New Orleans Saints(3-2) found themselves in a shootout with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers(4-1).

But they we're on the wrong end.

Saints Quarterback Drew Brees was flustered from the get-go as his first pass of the game was picked off by Buccaneers DB Mark Barron.

It proved to be the pattern of today's game.

Brees finished the day with 430 yards, 4 Touchdowns and 5 picks.

The turnovers turned into 48 points by the Bucs mixed with Josh McCown's flawless play.

"Division games man. Always the hardest on the schedule. Today it got away from us." Saints Defensive End Cameron Jordan stated.

The Saints Defense ranked 6th overall coming into the game today with Defensive Coordinator Rob Ryan at the helm.

"We knew it would be a tough task." Ryan stated. "Divisional games are always hard to plan for. They know us as much as we know them."

Quarterback Drew Brees struggled and really put the Saints defense in a tough spot. Tampa Bay took a 24-3 lead to start the game.

But New Orleans wouldn't quit. Brees began to get comfortable. The Saints began to rally.

They cut the lead to 27-24 in favor of Tampa Bay at the half.

But then the wheels came off.

Brees was picked off twice more in the second half killing any chance of a comeback as Tampa Bay racked up 21-10 run to take control of the NFC South.

"Anytime you get a win over a Division opponent is always huge. The Saints are a really good team. You have to appreciate their dedication." Buccaneers Quarterback Josh McCown stated.

"They we're well prepared today." Saints Head Coach Sean Payton stated.

"You have a game like that it's always hard to get out of the hole you put yourself in." Saints Quarterback Drew Brees stated.

The Saints lived up to their #1 Offense however racking up 703 yards total on the day against a depleted Bucs Defense.

"People like to look at the stats and get caught up in the numbers but a win is still a win and right now we're winning. We have a lot of faith in the guys on our team and New Orleans will be back. That's a really great team over there." Buccaneers Head Coach Lovie Smith stated.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers(4-1) have now won 4 in a row.

"We're winning with a great group of guys in this locker room." McCown stated.

He dropped 3 Touchdowns today and no turnovers.

Tampa Bay have really connected with the duo of Lovie Smith and Josh McCown.

"When we signed Lovie to be our Head Coach we wanted Josh as our Quarterback. They did some good things over there in Chicago. We felt they could do wonders for us." Buccaneers General Manager Jason Licht stated. He's in his first year as General Manager.

The New Orleans Saints(3-2) enter their Week 6 BYE and will look to rebound after being outscored 82-54 in their past 2 games.

Jim Schwartz gets revenge as BILLS crush LIONS 29-13 in the Motor City!

                              RECAP

Detroit, MI- There was not a single person on the planet where this game meant more than for Jim Schwartz. The Buffalo Bills Defensive Coordinator spent the 2009-2013 Seasons as Head Coach of the Detroit Lions bringing the Franchise to their first Playoff appearance in the 2011 Season. The Lions we're eliminated in the Wild Card Round at the hands of the New Orleans Saints.

The rest of the time in Schwartz's tenure, the Lions posted multiple losing seasons.

After a 6-3 start in 2013 thanks to Packers Quarterback Aaron Rodgers being hurt, the Lions faltered to a 7-9 finish and Jim was shown the door afterwards ending his time in Detroit.

"I appreciate my time there I really do. I felt like I gave it my all to help bring relevance to Detroit but it wasn't good enough." Schwartz stated.

It didn't take long for Jim to find work however as on January 24th he was hired to be the Bills Defensive Coordinator. He's done a masterful job in 5 games.

The Bills rank 16th overall on Defense.

"He's been a huge part of our rebuild this year." Bills Head Coach Doug Marrone stated. "Great mind, great Coach, very in the zone guy."

The Buffalo Bills(3-2) arrived in Detroit and pushed the Detroit Lions(2-3) around racing out to a 10-0 first Quarter lead.

Buffalo stuck with Quarterback Jeff Tuel once again all game and the youngster held his own going 18/34 for 3 Touchdowns, a pick, and 232 yards.

The Bills defense made life miserable for the Lions holding them to constant 3 and outs and sacking Matthew Stafford 5 times as he never really got comfortable.

He finished the day 168 yards and a Interception.

"I could stand here and make all kinds of excuses but that's not what football is about. We didn't play well today. I didn't play well today." Lions Quarterback Matthew Stafford said.

"We're laying a foundation here and a tough loss like that is just another obstacle for us to get over." Lions Head Coach Jim Caldwell stated.

With CJ Spiller still out, the Bills placed the running game in aging workhorse Fred Jackson. Jackson struggled only getting 78 yards off 19 Carries.

Backup Bryce Brown came in and added a little more spark with 81 yards off 16 Carries.

"We're keeping an eye on everyone this year. Our main concern is the Quarterback situation." Bills Head Coach Doug Marrone said.

The Bills(3-2) are rebuilding this year with constant changes at Quarterback and the team is looking towards the future under new Owners as well.

Buffalo is 3-2 but may drop down to .500 as next week they host Tom Brady and the Patriots.

"We'll worry about them tomorrow, right now we're enjoying this win. Lot of work this week to prepare for New England." Marrone said.

It's unclear yet if Buffalo will stick with Jeff Tuel for a third straight game or go with somebody else under center.

"We'll evaluate all our Quarterbacks and decide who to play this week." Marrone said.

That's been the Bills M.O this year.

The Detroit Lions(2-3) have dropped 3 straight and will look to rebound next week when they travel to Minnesota.

COLTS lose Matt Hasselbeck, rally behind Mannion for 17 Point 4th Quarter Comeback over RAVENS!

                                RECAP

Indianapolis, IN- The injury to Quarterback Andrew Luck has set Indy to a 1-3 start and was forced to rally behind Veteran Matt Hasselbeck for the 2 months Luck needed to recover from a broken collarbone.

Now instead Hasselbeck will be joining Andrew Luck on the sidelines after tearing his throwing shoulder in the Colts 27-19 win over the Baltimore Ravens.

"That's our Second Quarterback this year. The injury bug seems to like them." Colts Head Coach Chuck Pagano stated.

Luck is still out another 7 games and now Hasselbeck is going to miss the next 4.

The Colts(2-3) are now tied with Houston(2-3) for first place in the AFC South. Depending on how Jacksonville(1-3) does against Pittsburgh(2-2) later today could find themselves in a 3 way tie. The lowly Titans have to dig out of a hole(1-4).

After falling behind 9-7 at halftime, it looked like the game would be a good defensive battle. Ravens Quarterback Tyrod Taylor struggled finishing the game with 200 yards and a Interception.

"Rough game for sure. Let that one get away from us." Taylor stated.

After losing Matt Hasselbeck the Colts(2-3) turned to Rookie Sean Mannion and then Indy went to work down 19-10 in the 4th Quarter after a Lardarius Webb Pick 6. His second pick of the game.

Indianapolis showed heart and then rallied behind Mannion who soon found his confidence and the Colts put up 17 unanswered points to cruise past the Ravens(2-3).

Mannion threw 286 yards, 2 Touchdowns and a pick in his appearance.

"I was prepared to come in and show these guys they could count on me." Mannion stated.

The Colts finished the day with 392 yards of Offense.

"Very proud of Sean (Mannion)" Pagano stated. "He did great for just being thrown in there. But that's what makes Quarterbacks special. How they handle the fire."

"Being up 19-10 in the 4th and then we let it slip away." Ravens Head Coach John Harbaugh stated.

The Colts will look to gain control of the AFC South when they travel to Houston on Thursday Night.
