Report by Isaac Robinson - October 1st, 2018

    Swarm grab trio of commits

Westlake, OH -- Dion Barkley nabbed the first 3 official commits of his career, as MLB Davion Williams (3*, #31), DT Tavares Morton (JUCO JR, 1*, #168), and OL Tim Pembroke (JUCO SO, 2*, #140) all committed after their visit last week.

Pembroke and Williams will likely make an immediate impact, with Morton looking like more of a depth signing.

Williams is an athletic, hard-hitting linebacker who flies around, racking up a whopping 71 tackles through 6 games of his senior HS season. He does struggle to wrap up big backs and tight ends, and is inconsistent in coverage.

Pembroke stands 6'7, 342, and eats up tons of space in the run game. He does sometimes struggle against speed rushers, so he could end up as a guard.

Morton is another big guy, measuring in at 6'6, 312. He's fairly strong, gets off blocks well, and can tackle. But he's not a very good athlete, so he may struggle at the FBS level.

Westlake State have also secured verbal commitments from 12 other recruits, including standout JUCO corner Isiah Mills, who is expected to start right away, and Kevin Campbell, a dual-threat JUCO QB who struggles with passing, but has the athleticism to play HB or DB.

Huge win over Cincy! Always nice to come up with a win, even against a struggling opponent. Looked the offense finally clicked for a big game, getting someone able to run well other than BJ was key, although he had a great game too of course. Some really great screenshots from this one as well, that catch by Smith especially looked really nice. I like the All-Blue uniform look, with your color scheme so close to mine with Pitt, that may be a look that I'll need to edit into our repertoire as well because it looked slick on the field!

Nice to get some recruits in as well, I see you're going the JuCo route which will definitely help you make some immediate upgrades, though it may leave you with a ton of roster spots to fill in a couple years if you end up with all upperclassmen, aha.

          Y1, G6 Preview - vs UConn

          Coach Barkley's Take

This is our shot to really pull away in the race for the division. Everybody is struggling, and UConn aren't a strong team. Like us, they struggle to defend the run, so we're going to run it at them with Henderson and Thompson, lot of zone reads and triple options, we'll get Frank Nelson some more touches. Then hopefully we can open up the play action and hurt them deep. We can pick on their nickel and dime corners, and Reggie Sims at SS lacks speed.

Mychal Smith is a great athlete, really smart QB too, so he won't make many bad reads. His arm is only OK though, he's not going to hurt us too badly if we pressure him and force him to go deep. We will have to watch the running, but he's easily their best runner - these backs aren't great.

Jay Rich would be one of the best wideouts in the country if he ran a 4.6 and not a 4.9. He'll get open, but he isn't athletic enough to really gash us.

I expect to win this game. We can make the conference title game, the division is weak this year.

I hope so! I'm actually going to do a realignment, very similar if not identical to yours from your new dynasty. Some of the teams coming in are very strong, so it should be more competitive in the division next season.

I would have been so deflated if Landrum didn't come up with that pick to stop them. Definitely nice to get the W there. Someone mentioned Thompson getting more carries, and I realized I wasn't feeding him enough. That Smith catch was beautiful, he has a 98 SPC and so he often makes unnecessary diving/jumping/1-handed grabs when he could just run right through it haha.

Uniforms wise, yeah I love the sets I created, I have a black alt that looks really clean too if you remember it from my previous Swarm. Definitely would be dope to see your Panthers in all blue too.

The recruits are nice, Mills is a must cause our top 2 are graduating and the backups aren't amazing. Definitely focusing on JUCO guys for instant impact while trying to unearth some potential gems. Of course, I run manual progression now so anyone could be anything. Theoretically, I could have a guy come in at 62, be an 80 by his sophomore year, and leave at 99. Would make for a sick storyline, some random unheralded recruit being that program-changer.

            Thanks for checking in guys!

Good to see Westlake pick up a win against Cincinnati after what I'd consider a disappointing loss against Tulane - wasn't really expecting that considering how the team was playing leading into it. Would be nice to see Westlake make a run at the AAC title game, though despite the division being weak, I'd feel some consistency at the quarterback position would be needed in order to achieve that. Hopefully Henderson can limit the turnovers going forward and the guys can go on a little run here to build some momentum!

Yeah I was surprised at how we crumbled against Tulane as well, but we did well to bounce back. I think the AAC East is ours for the taking, the higher rated teams are playing badly and our offense is starting to take off. Like you said, if we avoid the turnovers, we can do it.

Yeah that one was a must win, would have felt awful to blow that one. Clutch defensive plays. Recruiting is looking good, I'm going to have another update because there were a few guys that I didn't include in the first one.

Report by Isaac Robinson - October 14th, 2018

Laugher in Westlake as Swarm win 42-7

Henderson keeps improving, throwing for 263 yards and 2 scores on just 19 attempts -- Thompson goes for 100 again with freshman Nelson chipping in 61 -- 6 sacks as UConn's Mychal Smith is rattled all day

B.J Henderson looks deep to a wide open Josh Roach

Westlake, OH -- The Swarm finished their 3 game homestand with a bang, embarrassing the UConn Huskies 42 to 7 behind a 28-point explosion in the second quarter. This win takes the Swarm to 3-4 on the season, and keeps them tied with ECU for the division lead after the Pirates edged out struggling USF 45-40.

The teams would exchange punts, before a 72 yard bomb from B.J. Henderson to Josh Roach off of play action opened the scoring. 2 more punts were exchanged, then UConn would miss an ambitious 58 yard field goal try. Behind good running and a couple completions from Henderson, the Swarm scored again on the first play of the second quarter to make it 14-0. UConn punted again, and Westlake State needed just 7 plays to hit paydirt again, with Henderson going airborne on a sneak, his 8th rushing score of the season. The Huskies would punt again, and then after a huge conversion on 3rd and 14, Henderson scored another rushing TD, escaping pressure on a bootleg then just tucking the ball and running, first evading a linebacker underneath, then putting a move on corner Calvin Pryor around the 10, where he would get away from one more and end up falling into the endzone to make it 28-0.

                      B.J. Henderson evades the defense

UConn turned it over on their next drive, with Mychal Smith fumbling it near midfield, and Leon Alexander fell on it. Westlake State scored in 4 plays, with Henderson finding Josh Roach for a 19 yard score, the sophomore's second on the day. UConn couldn't score, and that took us to the half. Westlake State 35, UConn 0.

Josh Roach breaks open for his second TD on the day

UConn went on a long drive, ending up in a Matt Lane TD catch to cut the lead to 28. UConn wouldn't score again though, and the Swarm found the endzone just once more, as James Thompson capped a long drive early in the 4th with a rushing TD.

Stan Jones got his first snaps in a few games as the backups came in, and he played well, completing 2 of 3 attempts and setting his team up for a 31 yard field goal, which Joe Romero pushed wide right.

B.J. Henderson keeps improving, with another new career best performance: 15 of 19 passing, 263 yards, and 2 scores, with one INT being the only blemish on his performance. He tacked on 94 yards and 2 scores on the ground.

                      Henderson celebrates after the game

Westlake State continued their ground and pound style this week, running for 295 yards as a team on 45 attempts, an excellent 6.5 yards per carry. The lone turnover also ties a season best for the Swarm, who have frequently cost themselves this year by throwing picks.

Dion Barkley was once again elated at how his team performed, telling the rest of the NCAA to watch out and taking a not-so-subtle jab at the Huskies:

Westlake State travel to Philly to take on Temple, who have struggled this season, going 1-5.

Henderson goes airborne for a score

Mychal Smith was jittery all day, taking off often

Josh Roach catches a deep ball

Jay Rich was kept in check, catching just 3 balls for 37 yards

                              Coach Barkley's Take

Another struggling team. Weak offense. Will Hill is a mediocre QB, not that fast, weak armed (79 THP), not all that accurate. He does read defenses well, but he isn't going to carve us up unless we call the wrong plays. Brett Mason is an OK back, he's got great moves and can break tackles, but he's not very fast.

They have a very weak secondary. We are going to go at them the same way we went at UConn, and this team is even thinner in the secondary. Their #1 corner is out. We're going to be slinging it, we're going to open up the run, don't be surprised if we blow these guys out too.

Report by Isaac Robinson - October 11th, 2018

NCAA announces massive conference shakeup, AAC to change dramatically

The NCAA dropped a bombshell yesterday, announcing a massive realignment of every FBS conference. The move will see the Big 12 return to having a conference title game, as Nebraska and Texas A&M are confirmed to be joining the conference. That's all that's official for now, but it's rumored that AAC schools Tulsa and SMU will also be joining. WVU is expected to leave.

We don't know much about what the American will look like, but Louisville will likely be returning, along with FIU and FAU joining, meaning all of the non P5 Florida schools would be playing in this new-look AAC.

The NCAA is expected to release the full realignment plan after this season's BCS title game.

Swarm nab 3 more recruits, get verbal commitment from WR Johnson

Westlake State have received commitments from 3 more players, bringing their 2018 class to 6 players so far.

SS Damion Nelson (#17), G Adam Washington (#45), and WR Allan Nicholson (#277) all signed and will enroll at the school for the spring semester. Nelson is a 6 foot 4, 197 pound, hard hitting run stopper. His instincts aren't very good, he frequently makes the wrong read, but he is solid at getting off blocks, has potential in coverage, and runs a solid 4.59 40. Washington stands at 6'5, 290, and is really built more like a tackle. He's very powerful and a good run blocker, but he needs to work on his footwork.

Allan Nicholson is someone who I don't see becoming a contributor, personally. He's 6'0, 191, runs a 4.61 40 and doesn't have great ball skills.

Westlake State have also recieved a verbal commitment from 4 star wideout (#25) Nic Johnson. He has reportedly been promised a significant role as a true freshman, which is part of why he's picking the Swarm over Florida and West Virginia. Also part of it: He has yet to receive any better offers. Power 5 schools aren't high on the 5'11, 202 pound receiver, who runs a 40 in the high 4.6s, isn't good after the catch, and hasn't played good competition. He's tough as nails, runs good routes, and has sticky hands, but there's a sentiment that he isn't athletic enough for D1 football.
