Great season so far, although you last comment makes it sound like you lost...

Re: The Great Realignment (NCAA 14)

Welp. As you can tell, the Lobos went down which I go into below. I'm getting rather nervous with how the CFP is shaping out considering there are 7 teams with really good resumes and only two (ND/MICH) will play each other in the next two weeks. Just going to have cross my fingers something manageable rises haha

And yep, our first loss of the year. After beating the likes of Ohio State, NC State, North Texas, Tulsa, etc.... Sam Houston State got us. They actually defeated Wyoming a week prior too- now leading the South division at 5-6 LOL

They could not stop Nealy and Adams. But Nealy's accuracy was noticeably off- I don't know why. He threw two redzone picks that turned into points for them (a 28-point swing). Also, had one fumble when I was trying to do too much which also led to a score for them.

The real story is that despite us being able to score a lot, Sam Houston's BACKUP 73 OVERALL SOPHOMORE QB Dwayne Thompson was unstoppable. He had a 60 yard touchdown run in which he legitimately broke four tackles. He only had a few incompletions and overall was just playing out of his mind.

Still, the real craziness came late. We had a chance up 7 with two minutes left to end it. Got stuffed and had to punt. With no timeouts, Thompson led a lowkey legendary drive to score with 8 seconds left on a scramble. So, we go into overtime and we score in three plays- boom bang bong. They also score relatively quick. Into 2OT we ago, we get a crucial sack and they never recover- having to kick a FG to go up 45-42.

So, my ball, right? Nope. I don't know what happened in the game but a major glitch occurred and SHST got the ball back, ran one play, and the game just ended. I was dumbfounded. I really wanted to quit and restart the game but the entire contest was so crazy, fun, and unexpected... I just decided to chalk it up to "one of the most egregious screw jobs in College Football history"....

A dark night for the New Mexico Lobos.

Yo, what?! What a game, I just finished the explanation and you lost off of a technicality?
And their star QB, he may need to be checked for PED's! Beating Wyoming last week and then one of the best teams in the nation..something is fishy down there in Sam Houston!
And all the back to 12th, damn lets hope those undefeated teams go down soon!

I can say I've never seen a glitch like that before in this game! That's a tough break and I'd probably still be fuming if that happened to me, lol. Definitely puts a damper on what has been an incredible season for the Lobos, but you can still finish strong and make another run at it next season.

As for the rest of the nation, five undefeated teams at this point is insane. I'm actually root for four to remain undefeated for the CFP, I just think that would be pretty cool.

RT haha. It was really odd because he isn't the actual starting QB. But, there's one thing when a QB just nickel and dime's me to death- nah, this guy was making legitimate plays haha. Thanks for checking in!

I was *okay* with it because I ran through the entire Sun Belt without a hiccup. I could appreciate a loss plus those screw jobs are always more memorable than just another OT win lol. SHST deserved that win for the most part

Yeah, that'd be dope. Either way, unless specific teams lose- a really good team or two might completely miss the playoffs (Alabama, Purdue, or Oregon). Going to really need everyone's help picking the best four when the time comes

Brutal way to lose, I would have thrown my console out the window from an ending like that haha. Guess it gives you something to strive for moving forward, but this just seemed like it was a real Cinderella season for you so its a shame to lose it in a crazy fashion like that!

I was extremely confused for 30 seconds, angry for 30 seconds, then just laughed lol. Who doesn't love a good controversy? I am not TOO bummed because I don't think I was going to make the CFP anyways. Ohio State looking to end at 6-6 and NC State at 6-6 as well. No ranked wins. No way I could beat out even Purdue. Sad thing is, despite being #12 and 10-1, I'm projected to play Mid Tenn State in the New Orleans Bowl... now that is upsetting

What a week! For the second time in three years, South Carolina plays spoiler to Clemson's season. Even taking over their spot in ACC championship (a death blow to CFP hopes this year). Notre Dame's amazing bounce back year with first-year coach Luke Fickell gets dropped by USC BUT they do play #1 Michigan in Conference title game. Honestly, not sure how all this plays out. Also, Louisville's RB Javian Hawkins broke the game's career rushing record of 6497 yards. Wow.

Wyoming was a tough game. A snow out road game. Their defense was probably the best I faced all year. Tons of pressure. Only had a few runs over 5 yards. Chambers was good but those stalled drives in missed field goals were the difference. I'll take it as a hangover win after SHST... which we get another shot at.

Probably the most all-around exciting Conference Title weekend yet! I don't know what will happen if Notre Dame beats Michigan. Does USC or Oregon really have a chance at the CFP? Will Alabama or Oklahoma fall to 99 overall opponents? How in the hell did we go from a Top 10 ACC championship between Clemson and Boston College to S. Carolina and Penn State three weeks later?

G5 games are great too. Us and Maryland get a shot to beat the only losses on our schedule while Purdue and Illinois rematch in a rare Top 15 G5 title game. No clue how this all plays out!

I have had a few glitches over the years but nothing like the shaft job you got. At least you get to have revenge and play them again. Question is will Thompson be amazing a 2nd time. If I had to guess. I don't think he will. I think it was a Fluke.

Love seeing Boise State playing for the MWC title.

Any plans on moving the Lobo's out of the Sun Belt for a tougher/better conference schedule, or I guess the other question is how long do you plan on sticking with the Lobo's.

I was psyched to play them again. They were playing Houston to decide who went to the title game and they won by 30. Hopefully, I get time to play in the morning (beauty of working remotely). I'm definitely chugging an energy drink and kicking on some fight songs to get them back.

And, New Mexico will definitely be moving to Independent by way of the normal promotion system. However, we will have our first real issue whereas Kansas State, despite maybe winning 9 games, will get demoted to a G5. I plan on staying at New Mexico indefinitely but there are talks of an NCAA investigation into our incredible recruiting haha

Redemption. Honestly, the best game we have ever played at SHST. I was locked in- ready to destroy them. It was pretty cool playing in a packed dome stadium (all SHST fans for some reason lol). But it was a legit massacre. Nealy was near perfect, Adams had 100 yards on 8 carries. The defense was not missing tackles on Thompson this game. 42-3 at the half is about as good as it gets. Really exceptional play out of our backups as well.

Sadly, though- as you can see- the game used my SBC bid to play in the New Orleans Bowl against measly 6-6 MTST. I would love nothing more than a chance to play another Top 15 team but that's just the life of a Lobo. With a conference title, we have punched our ticket to Independent-level and will have 95% of our team back to get the respect we deserve.

                              Oklahoma (13-0)
For the second year in a row, Oklahoma is the easiest selection for CFP. Led by Spencer Rattler who has an insane 42 TDs and only 2 IN- the Sooners meet all criteria with Top 25 wins and a conference championship. They are 27-1 in the last 28 games (loss was vs Oregon State in last year's title game)

                              Purdue (13-0)
Purdue is likely the third non-P5 in three years (both Boston College prior- lost both first round games) to make the CFP. Their SOS is not that impressive but they have beat Top 25 Illinois twice and have both the #1 offense and #1 defense. Led by QB Jake Plummer (40 TDs/4 INT).

                              Oregon (12-1)
Oregon passes most other candidates in every category which includes 4 Top 25 wins, and 6 wins in a row. Their one loss came by one point midseason to UCLA. They led by a dynamic QB/RB duo of T. Shough (37 TDs/7 INT) and S. Dollars (1448 rushing yards)

                              Alabama (12-1)
Alabama was the most impressive team for most of the year. They hold 3 Top 15 wins with their only loss coming an unexpected 21-point loss to #14 LSU. Other than that, they have taken care of business. Led by QB Taulia Tagovailoa and RB Trey Sanders.

                              Notre Dame (12-1)
With new head coach Luke Fickell, the Fighting Irish began 11-0. However, the unusually lowly BIG10 did not have them ready for a red hot USC week 14 as they lost 28-21. They did, however, turnaround and beat #1 Michigan for their first loss of the season 27-13. It doesn't seem that one win is enough to push them into the CFP but junior QB Brendon Clark (34 TD/3 INT) will be back hopefully.

                              Ole Miss (9-3)
Three losses this year means their is no way Ole Miss gets in. This is despite their three impressive Top 25 wins. QB John Rhys Plumlee will have an opportunity to end a storied career (14000+ career yards) with a potential BCS victory.

                              Michigan (12-1)
For the second straight year, Michigan goes into the BIG 10 championship 12-0 only to have their season foiled (this time by Notre Dame). This was not entirely ridiculous as the Wolverines played 0 ranked teams all year. Heisman winning RB Zach Charbonnet does, however, need 70+ yards to rebreak the NCAA career rushing record.

                              Clemson (11-1)
Despite Clemson's incredibly powerful year- their rivalry loss Week 14 to South Carolina makes it a stretch for them to get into the CFP. They only have one other ranked win and did not play for the conference title. The Tigers will be back as they return both QB Taisun Phommachanh (37/7) and RB Chez Mellusi (1331 yards)

                              Maryland (12-1)
The Terps did beat several P5 teams but non with winning records. They played no ranked teams at all. Their late season 21-loss to Temple was all she wrote for their CFP hopes. They did redeem themselves against Temple with a 31-point conference title win- confirming their promotion to Independent in 2023.

                              New Mexico (12-1)
New Mexico tells the same exact story as Maryland. They played no P5 teams with a winning record. Their odd loss to Sam Houston State was enough to easily crush their CFP hopes. To the same merit, they did redeem themselves with a 58-point victory in conference title- also confirming their move up to Independent next year.

I honestly thought it would be much harder selecting the CFP but once I put it up on paper, the Top 4 seem clear to me:

                                1. Oklahoma
                                2. Oregon
                                3. Alabama
                                4. Purdue

In my head, I slip Purdue to 4 since they are not a P5 and did not play the schedule ORE or BAMA did.

The only real other candidate in my mind is Notre Dame with one loss and a recent win over #1 Michigan. However, that loss came against USC- who Oregon beat twice. Even Purdue has more Top 25 wins and beats them in mostly every other category.

But, I've messed this up before so if anyone else has a good argument let me know haha
