Re: B-Dawg's Air Force Falcons: Flying high A.F.
So, I just played the fourth game of the 2024 season yesterday and I'm hoping to play the fifth game this afternoon before going to work. I'm trying to post, bare minimum, one game for every game I'm playing. If I can get to 2022 with posts while still playing 2024, I'll feel like I've covered a pretty good gap. I may do less detail on recruiting (I'm already doing that this season) and I'm just posting the award winners with an actual article to save some time and get them up here.
I expected a pass-happy team. That's the Hawaii I was used to playing in other versions of the game. I was shocked when they came out running the option. Obviously, I played defense like I had no clue what was going on.Comment

2021 HEISMAN TROPHY CEREMONY
Air Force running back Trey Taylor is the 2021 Heisman Trophy winner.
Emerging from Remsberg’s shadow,
Taylor wins 2021 Heisman Trophy
NEW YORK — Trey Taylor played for two seasons at Air Force in the shadow of Kadin Remsberg, one of the most explosive offensive players ever coached by B-Dawg.
But Taylor has something Remsberg never attained in three seasons — a bronze bauble of a football player striking the Heisman pose.
Taylor became the first Heisman Trophy winner for the Falcons during this dynasty, knocking off heavily hyped Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence for the 2021 award. Taylor had 319 first-place votes and 1,611 voting points, while Lawrence had 240 first-place votes and 1,340 points.
B-Dawg was worried Taylor might get overlooked because he didn’t win any of the three college football awards for which he was nominated. He did make first-team All-America.
After being used last season in formation subs to give Remsberg a breather, Taylor flourished as the main man in 2021. He ran 274 times for 1,450 yards and a school-record 25 touchdowns while catching 50 passes for 376 yards and two touchdowns. Taylor ran 128 times for 477 yards and 16 touchdowns last season.
“What Trey has over Kadin is he put up the numbers that a halfback needs in order to win a Heisman with his rushing yardage,” B-Dawg said. “He had nice receiving totals, nothing as outrageous as what Kadin had, but Kadin wasn’t a 1,000-yard rusher.”
Taylor is B-Dawg’s 13th Heisman winner going back to NCAA 2004.
In real life, Taylor is a defensive back for Air Force. When naming recruits in the Class of 2018, B-Dawg saw Taylor listed as a running back on a list of Air Force recruits.

SeasonGame Notes It's strength vs. strength, as East Carolina takes the ninth-ranked rushing attack in the nation into the Poinsettia Bowl against Air Force's top-ranked rush defense. The problem for Air Force could be that East Carolina appears more than capable of throwing the ball against a unit that is ranked dead-last defending the pass. The Falcons will have their hands full with running back Trace Christian, who has run 243 times for 1,544 yards and 17 touchdowns. Quarterback Holton Ahlers is 191-for-337 for 2,347 yards, 26 touchdowns and nine interceptions. East Carolina is favored by Kirk Herbstreit, coming in at 84 OVR against the 75 OVR Falcons. Comment

2021 SEASON, BOWL GAME
East Carolina quarterback Holton Ahlers ran 17 times for 143 yards and three touchdowns.
Don’t believe the hype
Air Force Heisman winner shut down
in Poinsettia Bowl loss to East Carolina
SAN DIEGO — Two players tore it up on the ground in the Poinsettia Bowl matchup between Air Force and East Carolina.
Neither of them was Heisman Trophy winner Trey Taylor.
Taylor, the star Air Force junior, never got it going on the ground in the 16th-ranked Falcons’ 41-21 loss to unranked East Carolina on Dec. 21, 2021.
Taylor was held to 19 yards on 15 carries, as the Pirates held the Falcons to a paltry 1.5 yards per carry with 50 yards on 33 attempts. Only two sacks played into that total. Taylor’s longest run was eight yards.
“Kudos to their scouting staff,” Air Force coach B-Dawg said. “It’s as if they watched film of how we used Trey and were ready for it. He makes a lot of his yardage when we run ‘strong stretch’ against man coverage. They didn’t play into the trap. They stayed in zone and had the outside edge constantly covered.”
Air Force’s other strength, its run defense, was a complete joke.
The Falcons led the nation by allowing only 89.7 rushing yards per game, but were gashed by quarterback Holton Ahlers and halfback Trace Christian. Ahlers feasted on the option keeper, running 17 times for 143 yards and three touchdowns, while Christian toted the rock 20 times for 127 yards.
East Carolina ran 40 times for 280 yards, a tidy 7.0 yards per carry.
“Our coach failed us,” B-Dawg said. “I wasn’t prepared for that option. You’d think we would have learned our lesson after what Hawaii did to us late in the season, but we looked like we never defended the option in our lives. That’s on me.”
Ahlers, a 90 OVR senior, set the tone for the game by breaking a tackle near the line of scrimmage on an option keeper and busting off an 87-yard touchdown with 1:13 left in the first quarter, giving the Pirates a 7-3 lead.
A 21-yard run by Ahlers and a 2-yard run by Troy Stevenson extended the lead to 21-3.
The only appearance by Taylor the entire day came in the passing game, as he hauled in a 41-yard touchdown pass from Zachary Larrier to get Air Force within 21-10 with 47 seconds left in the first half.
“That was what we call the Remsberg Special,” B-Dawg said. “It’s the first time we’ve hit it all season. It helps having Kadin Remsberg’s speed to pull it off.
“We went into halftime hoping the break toned down the momentum East Caroilna had. But we wound up chasing the game all day. We couldn’t get the stops that allowed us to get back in the game.”
It could have been even closer by halftime, but Luc Sturbelle dropped a bomb at the goal line to end the half.
The Pirates marched right down the field on the first drive of the second half, moving 75 yards in seven plays before Ahlers hit Mydreon Vines with a 1-yard touchdown pass.
The Falcons were still in the game entering the fourth quarter, down by 14 points, but couldn’t score and allowed two field goals.
East Carolina was only 1-for-9 on third down, but didn’t get in third-down situations often enough for that to matter.
Air Force outgained East Carolina, 455-425, but three turnovers were the difference. Eight dropped passes by the Falcons didn’t help.
Air Force finished the season 10-3. The Falcons are 1-2 in bowl games, beating Eastern Michigan in 2018, missing out in 2019 and losing to Memphis in 2020.
Only one wide receiver caught a pass for East Carolina, with Vines grabbing three passes for 31 yards. Halfbacks and tight ends had the other catches for an efficient attack that was 14-for-18 for 145 yards and a touchdown.
Trey Taylor hauls in a 41-yard touchdown catch.

2021 NATTY, BOWL RESULTS, FINAL RANKINGS
Michigan State’s Rocky Lombardi threw for 3 touchdowns in the national championship game.
Spartans chomp Gators to win natty
Yes, Rocky Lombardi’s great-grandfather is named Vince Lombardi.
Just not THAT Vince Lombardi.
Regardless, Rocky is a championship quarterback following his performance for Michigan State in the national title game for the 2021 season against Florida.
Lombardi was 14-for-19 for 217 yards and three touchdowns in a 45-24 victory over Florida.
Lombardi threw two touchdown passes after Florida had trimmed a 24-10 halftime deficit to 31-24 on a 5-yard pass from Emory Jones to Kadarius Toney with 14:30 left in the game.
A 21-yard touchdown pass to C.J. Hayes with 8:07 left and a 9-yarder to Weston Bridges with 3:07 on the clock put it away for the Spartans.
Bridges ran 19 times for 174 yards and three touchdowns, while catching two passes for 11 yards and a touchdown to earn game MVP honors.
Iverson Clement ran 21 times for 112 yards and a touchdown for Florida.
Fiesta Bowl history repeats itself
Tell me where you’ve heard this one before?
Boy-Z State earnes some R-E-S-P-E-C-T for the little guy by beating Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl.
It happened in real life on Jan. 1, 2007 when the Broncos beat the Sooners, 43-42. It happened in the 2021 season of this dynasty in a much tighter game, with Boy-Z State winning 13-10.
Oklahoma led 10-3 at halftime, but couldn’t score in the second half. A 3-yard run by Danny Smith with 11:06 left in the game was the only touchdown of the day and gave Boy-Z State the victory.
Chase Garbers was 13-for-29 for 122 yards and Smith ran 21 times for 103 yards and a touchdown for the Broncos.

The option is really hard to stop in this game, as opposed to being a joke in past versions. My firearms are useless against them.Currently playing:

Re: B-Dawg's Air Force Falcons: Flying high A.F.
I've had success against some teams by running a 4-2-5, having the inside DB's blitz the edge and spying out the defensive ends to either side (takes some quick stick work pre-snap). If the team pretty much only runs the option, like Army, I have some success with that. If a team can mix it up, that's when the point totals and yardage start adding up.Comment
