    Leafs 20 game update

    11-7-2

Coaches comments: "The team is starting to really gel on the ice, goaltending has picked it's self up the last 10 games, all of our lines produce when given the chance, its really nice to be able to count on our depth skill guys to get it done when the first and second line are struggling, we owe our current record to hard work and we intend to keep this mind set moving forward"

Re: Basement to penthouse, the return of the leafs

      Leafs injury update

After receiving a dirty hit from lightning forward Ryan Malone (suspended 3 games by the league) Toronto D man Calvin De Haan will miss the next 2-3 weeks with a sprained ankle.

Quoted earlier today from De Hann himself "Yeah things happen fast out there, and sometimes people get injured, but I think he got what he deserved for doing it"

In other team news Steve Pratt has been moved to the first unit and PP unit and John Tavares has moved back to the second units, Coach Pattenden had the following to say about the moves

"Well right now Steve is on top of his game and his stats are better then Johns, we need people to compete for jobs and ice time, right now Steve is winning that battle"

Mikael Osterberg will be activated until De Haan recovers, he will see time on the third defensive pair, mean while Pavel Kubina will move up to the second unit to fill De Haans slot.

Kris Versteeg will move to the point in De Haan's absence on the second powerplay unit.

This is the first time in this chise that one of my players got into the top 5 of any stat. My Back up tender Jakub Kovar, who has put up stellar numbers in every game he has played sits third in the league with 3 shutouts. Mason has 2 himself, but his numbers are far worse.

          Team update

Locker room drama! Word is leaking out about a fist fight breaking out between (C) John Tavares and (LW) Kris versteeg just before a scheduled practice. We have also been getting reports from those close to the players and team that Tavares has been having difficulty adjusting to his diminished role in Toronto, often arguing with head coach Steve Pattenden. Both Pattenden and Tavares were unavailable for comment on this topic. We will keep you updated as more information becomes available!

Re: Basement to penthouse, the return of the leafs

            Breaking news! literally!

It would appear that during the fight between (LW) Kris Versteeg and (C) John Tavares, Versteeg's jaw fractured and during his collapse to the floor he hit his head on the players bunch, suffering a minor concussion. Team Doctors have estimated Versteeg will be absent for 2-3 weeks depending on concussion symptoms. GM Brian Burke has handed Tavares an internal suspension of 4 games, in which he will not travel with the team for their next 4 games.

Tavares has made himself unavailable for public comment, but released a written statement to the media, his club and to Versteeg stating sincere regret and heartfelt apologies.

In the absence of Tavares (C) Jamie Lundmark will be called up from the Toronto Marlie's (5 goals 6 assists for 11 points in 17 games) he will Center the fourth line, moving (C) Braydon schenn up to second line duty and (C) Tyler Bozak up to third line.

With Versteeg out Toronto has called up (LW) Jay Rosehill who will see time on the fourth line unit, this will move Teemu Selanne up to second line duty until Versteeg is available.

In other team news (D) Calvin De Haan will return for tonights game against the Penguins, he will return to his second line duties, to make space for De Haan Mikeal Osterberg will be scratched, and Pavel Kubina will return to the third line defensive pairing.

              Injury update

(LW) Kris Versteeg has begun to skate on his own, concussion symptoms still linger according to the injured winger.

              (C) Jamie Lundmark suffered a strained hamstring in his first game as a Maple leaf (C) Scott Nichol was called up from the Toronto Marlie's, unfortunately for Nichol the game before he was going to return to the Marlie's (since John Tavares' suspension is over) Nichol blocked a point shot and suffered a hip pointer and will be out for a whopping 2-3 months.

              (C) John Tavares has served his internal suspension handed down by Brian Burke, after an un needed fight with (LW) Kris Versteeg, in which Versteeg suffered a broken jaw and concussion. Tavares will return to the line up tonight resuming his second line duties VS the Ottawa Senators

Nothing like a good ole' locker room fight to shake things up. Hopefully it gets things going in the right direction.

                    40 game update (December 30th 2011)

                    Injury front:
(LW) Kris Versteeg has been cleared by team doctors to resume play

                    (C) Scott Nichol remains out with a hip pointer, return date estimated at March 12

                    (D) Cam Fowler has his foot broken while blocking a shot form the point, sadly Fowler will miss roughly a month of play. Date of return set for February 6th

(LW) Kirill Kabanov will miss 2-3 weeks of play with a separated shoulder he suffered during a missed hit return date set for January 13th

                    (D) Victor Hedman suffered a inured elbow, but will continue to play through the injury as it was deemed playable.

                    Team news:
GM Brian Burke announced to the media today that he is seeking a new home for disgruntled (C) John Tavares. He did not Field many questions on the topic but did state that Tavares asked for a trade and he is doing his best to try to accommodate Tavares. He went on to say that normally he would not do this for a player, but believes this is a special circumstance. I would not expect it will take long for Burke to find a willing suitor given Tavares' skill level, the big question is what will he get in return?

Pratt is again leading the club in all major statistics, his PPG average has climbed even further since taking over first line duties. On the other end of the rink Mason's play has continued to improve over the season with all stats getting better each update.

Pratt is sitting third in NHL goals for catagory, I am sure the Leafs are hoping he can continue his strong play, With Pratt stepping up like he has been maybe trading Tavares wont be such a bad thing.

Ryan Miller continues to dominate the goal tending around the NHL. He has produced stellar numbers in every category yet again.

So in a twist of karma i geuss you could say. as i was hitting the save button my power went out, and after it came back on my save file was corrupt. it is as the playstation knows, the real life leafs suck, so mine are not allowed to prosper. am I pissed off? very much so. the the point i came close to snapping a controller.

but that anger has turned to a bitter resentment and a new drive to make this work, so no im not giving up on my leafs, i am starting again...... *sigh*

I am sorry readers, there is 630 veiws or so on this thread, and I thank you all who have read, and I hope you continue to do so, but the next time you see this leafs team it will be from scratch.

                        Leafs update

Hello again readers, as you read above my save file bombed on me, so I am refusing to give up and I am starting again. The set up will be the same, OBG's sliders (thanks again OBG) This time around I will be operating a bit differently, I am going to try and build through free agency (little to no offer sheets) and drafting. But first I am going to rid myself of the Cluster of poor or over paid D men the leafs currently have.

                        Season one plan

On the trading block in order of who I desire most to rid of:
                        1) Tomas Kaberle
                        2) Dion Phaneuf
                        3)Mike Komisarek
                        4) Jeff Finger
                        5) Giguere
this list could carry on for most of the roster but hey well stop there. these are the players I will shop, and by shop I mean place on my trade block.

Players I am going to actively seek
                        1) Matt Duchene
                        2) A goaltender of future relevance
                        3) Micheal Del Zotto or another OFD of future relevance

I also am going to try and restock my draft cupboard, which badly needs it.
Once again I am sorry for this unfortunate situation, but I hope you all continue to read.

                            Opening day impact!

Opening day was a big one for the Toronto Maple Leafs and their newest players in an absolute domination of the Montrela Canadiens new aquisitions (C) Matt Duchene (1goal 2 assist) (D) Roman Hamrlik (1 assist) and (G) Carey Price (shutout) showed why they were sought after by the Leafs. Also of note Fredrik Sjostrom (1 assist) scored his 100th career point, at home on opening night, grats freddy!

Normally I dont do game recaps, but this was such a sweet game!
