    Leafs 20 game update

GM Brian Burke has announced the firing of Head coach Ron Wilson, stating that he believes a different approach is required for their current roster, and did not think Wilson's coaching techniques will be effective.

Replacing Wilson will be Steve Pattenden, were heading to a press conference now.

Pattenden: Thank you all for following our franchise up to this point, I just wanted to touch base here to let you all know the direction I would like our young team to move in while on the ice.

I will be giving our guys every chance to prove themselves to me, and they will have every opportunity to showcase their talents. I want them to open up and show their creativity and skills while on the ice, while maintaining good position I believe this will increase our scoring output and let the guys have fun at the same time. We have solid goaltending so I am not concerned at this point of over working Carey, he can handle it.

I intend every line to have a purpose specific to the players on it, as such I will be shifting everyones roles and lines, here is what you can expect to see.

    Line one
LW Taylor Hall C Matt Duchene RW Clarke Macarthur
LD Drew Doughty RD Steve Pratt
I am looking at this line to be fast agile and our top offensive threat, if you look here all of these guys are smooth skaters with high passing and shooting abilities.

    Line two
LW Eric Fehr C Tyler Bozak RW David Backes
LD Hal Gill RD Keith Aulie
These are the big physical guys, scoring net presences. I am looking for these guys to use their large frames to make space and punish their opponents in all zones

    Line three
LW Nikolai Kulemin C Vaclav Prospal RW Kris Versteeg
LD Brett Lebda RD Jordan Leopold
This is a mix line, all these forwards have soft hands and scoring ability but also the drive and grit to get into dirty areas and win battles for the puck

    Line four
LW Mike Brown C Christian Hanson RW Colton Orr
This is my grind it out, shut them down line, I want these guys to be physical and har don the puck in all zones, never giving opponents the chance to make a play without the though of someone crashing into them.

as for our Power play units we are going to operate under the simple rule of if you have the puck, and can see the net, you need to shoot!

    PP1
LW Taylor Hall C Matt duchene RW David Backes
LD Drew Doughty RD Steve Pratt

    PP2
LW Vaclav Prospal C Tyler Bozak RW Nikolaie Kulemin
LD Kris Versteeg RD Hal Gill

Duchene is 6th in goals, which is fantastic when you consider the slow team start, which has picked up big time since coach Pattenden has taken over.

Price is starting to climb up the goaltending charts, he is one step away from being considered a bonafied elite goaltender.

Thats an excellent idea - I think they will mesh well with eachother. Your first line is scarry, look out slow defensemen.

Re: Basement to penthouse, the return of the leafs

Question for the readers, I have my center position basically locked up for the next few years to come, but I am unhappy with their statures, I wanted to get a bigger physical center but have found them hard to come by, so this leaves me with trading.

heres a list of my current C's that I planned on keeping long term

(PLY) Matt Duchene 86 OVR 20 years old 5'11" 204 LBS B-/B-/B- POT
Duchene is slotted as my number 1 C for obvious reasons.

(TWF) Braydon Schenn 74 OVR 20 years old 6'2" 194 LBS B/B/B- POT
I had thought Schenn would fit nicely as a third line center and slide him into my second PP unit and first PK unit

(SNP) Nazem Kadri 74 OVR 21 years old 6'0" 178 LBS B/B/B POT
I am yet undecided what to do with Kadri, it will come down to what my roster looks like when he is ready to enter the NHL but i had thought since he was a shooter, to put him on a wing.

                  (PLY) Ryan Nugent-Hopkins 70 OVR 18 years old 6'0" 160 LBS A-/B/B- POT
undecided where he fits into my plans, but he has great potential.

I like how my team runs now with the first line being fast and skilled my second line being tough and skilled my third line being skilled and gritty and my fourth line all about the pain, so what im looking for would be a PWF/TWF/GRN C with size and skill for my second unit and a GRN/TGH C will size and physical ability for my fourth. the closest thing to those is Schenn but obviously if I follow this plan I have two centers that dont fit the bill.

                  Trade options:
                  (PWF) Colin Wilson 84 OVR 22 years old 6'1" 214LBS A-/B-/B- POT
                  From the Nashivlle Predators

(PWF) Shadow Matthias 77 OVR 23 years old 6'4" 218 LBS B/B-/B- POT
                  From the Florida Panthers

so yeah, not a heck of alot out there that fits what i would like. what do you guys think? go after one of those two? stick it out with what i have and screw my plan, and if trade, who goes? Kadri? Hopkins? Schenn? and why. let me know what you think!

Coach Pattenden: Yeah I know were getting alot of one goal battles, our guys are playing excellently in the D zone, its the offensive side of things we are struggling with right now. Our guys are young and this will happen, right now I am just encouraging all our guys to keep shooting and crash the net for rebounds, a few dirty goals and we will get that scoring ball rolling again. I'm not worried about it at this time scoring will pick up.

So as you can see goaltending is not my problem, but scoring? yes sir! I will be adjusting the team strategy to all out offense to get things rolling again, and some line changes are due.

Kris Versteeg and Clarke Macarthur will swap places on the first and third units, Also Clarke Macarthur will take Vaclav Prospal's position on the wing on the second power play unit.

Still playing a clip under .500 hockey, yet you have some solid foundations to build upon, which is nice.

Thanks for posting hero. It has been a very frustrating season so far but I continue to plug away at it. It is intresting watching the guys go through successes and failures as they grow together.

As it stands versteeg is a waste of space, as prospal has been. I have been looking at Milan lucic out of boston and micheal grabner from the islanders
I actually tried to offer sheet grabner out of long island in the off season but they matched my offer and refuse every trade offer I make even when I try to overpay generously. I shall continue to try though.

Hey guys! just poping in on my wifes smart phone here, I finished my second season and man it was rough we got bombed hardcore down the back stretch so many injuries, seemed like half my line up was out on a rotating door basis.

Anyways I will be home soon to post a year end update etc.. Unfortunatly I couldn;t keep track of much of the stats since i didnt honestly feel like writing down that much info lol. anyways see you all soon with a recap!
