AEW Tag Contenders Tournament Final Brackets Revealed
    by Paul Marshall

Immediately after the show AEW revealed the final round 1 brackets for the contenders tournament. Seeding is random.

Two teams were brought in from the indies specifically for this tournament, those two being CCK and the team of Beer City Bruiser and Brian Milonas. Here's a look at the two teams and what they may bring to the table.

THE BOUNCERS (Beer City Bruiser & Brian Milonas)

This tag team stands at an absolutely staggering combined weight of 663 pounds. Despite their gargantuan weights, this is a deceptively fast and athletic tag team. Brian Milonas can pull off moves a man of his weight should never be able to do. Combine that with the rough and tough brawling style of The Beer City Bruiser and you get a tag team that has the potential to shock the world in this tourney.

CCK (Kid Lykos & Chris Brookes)

The team of Chris Brookes and Kid Lykos are well known in the British Wrestling scene. They've held tag gold in Progress as well a multitude of different promotions across the country. They have a unique relationship as a promo from the two will often feature Chris Brookes doing all the talking, and demanding his masked companion Kid Lykos to "shut up" whenever he tries to chime in. Make no mistake though, when it comes to getting things done in the ring this team is 100% on the same page. Don't be surprised if CCK makes it far in this tourney, or even wins it all.

      TAG CONTENDERS TOURNAMENT
      WEEK 1 OF 4

Streaming on Facebook Live, it's the AEW Tag Contenders Tourney. See some of the best tag teams in the world go at it with the hopes of soon earning a shot at the AEW World Tag Team Championships. Tonight we will see two first round matchups as CCK will make their AEW debut against Next Gen Unrivaled, and in the main event the unlikely duo of Jay Lethal and PAC will take on The Briscoe Brothers.

But first we have a warm up match for the crowd here tonight.

Warm up match - Cody vs. PCO

A quick but hard hitting match. PCO brings the fight as always with that reckless brawling style, but in the end Cody is able to catch him with Cross Rhodes and pick up his first singles win in months.

      Cody wins by pinfall

      ---

Backstage, Cody is walking after his match when he's approached by The Young Bucks. Nick Jackson still has some green mist on his face.

Nick: Where the hell have you been man? Did you see what those sons of bitches did to us?

Matt: They couldn't fight fair against their own partners. You've got to be kidding me man.

Cody: Guys, you're completely missing the point here. Hall and Finlay represent Bullet Club, and they'll do anything in their power to win. THAT's what you guys have been missing. Next Gen Unrivaled wins matches!

Nick: You've got to be joking... you actually approve of that? You're actually serious right now.

Cody: I'm looking for results guys.

Matt: Results? Don't worry, we'll give you results.

Matt slaps Nick on the chest and they walk off.
      ---

Round 1 Tourney Match - CCK vs. Next Gen Unrivaled

Within about a minute and a half the crowd is 100% behind CCK. This is a great showcase for them as their fast paced scrappy underdog style meshes well with the more grounded tag style of Hall and Finlay.

Both Brookes and Lykos have a great showing as they both hit some high risk outside dives that electrify the crowd. Hall and Finlay are able to ground them and slow the match down.

The match seems to be reaching its end when Hall goes for a splash in the corner on Kid Lykos, but Lykos moves and the ref is knocked out in the crossfire. That's when Nick and Matt Jackson run down to the ring!

Matt Jackson takes Finlays legs out from under him on the apron which causes a hard fall. Nick Jackson gets in the ring and sprays Cody Hall in the face with green mist! Nick wakes the ref up and The Young Bucks leave the area.

Kid Lykos rolls up Cody Hall, 1-2-3! CCK does it!

      CCK wins by pinfall

The crowd explodes for CCK's win! The Young Bucks just got their revenge on NGU. Have we just witnessed the implosion of The Bullet Club?

      ---

Match #3 - Jay Lethal & PAC vs. The Briscoe Brothers

This is a fast paced action packed tag match. We see Jay Lethal and PAC building tag team chemistry in real time as they try new tag moves and sometimes tag in and out at inopportune times. Still, they're an effective tag team just resting on their pure skill and talent alone.

The ending of the match comes when The Briscoe Brothers go to set up a doomsday device on Lethal, but Lethal elbows out of it and knocks Mark off the top rope and down to the floor. Lethal plants Jay with a cutter and tags in PAC. Black Arrow! 1-2-3!

Jay Lethal & PAC win by pinfall

That win may come as a shock to some as the brand new team of Lethal and PAC get one over on the experienced Briscoe Brothers, but they worked well together, well enough to advance to the next round.

I love the Facebook format of the tournament.

Also love that the Bucks got some revenge. Probably the storyline I’m most interested in right now and you have some good ones going on.

Okada will be in action as he goes one on one with a man he's been dealing with in the world title picture for over a month now, Austin Aries

Brian Cage will take on Big Nasty Dave Mastiff as both men continue to gun for the IC Championship.

            July Week 4

The final week of a historic July, AEW comes to you with a somewhat unique card that will see a massive main event for the IC Title as champion Walter attempts his first defense unless the unlikely but dangerous challenger, Kongo Kong

The show begins with a black SUV pulling up. A driver steps out, walks over and opens the back door. Out steps Chris Jericho with a huge smirk on his face. The crowd reacts in a mixture of cheers and boos (but mostly cheers) as Jericho walks off camera.

            ---

Match #1 - Dave Mastiff vs. Brian Cage

Two worthy competitors in the IC title division trying to string some wins together, and it makes for a hell of a battle. Mastiff bring his hard hitting aggressive style, while Cage is able to do some amazing cruiserweight style moves with a bigger opponent like Mastiff.

The match ends with Mastiff escaping a hold from Cage by raking his eyes, then hitting a huge running crossbody to pick up the victory.

            Dave Mastiff wins by pinfall

            ---

Match #2 - Okada vs. Austin Aries

No love lost between these two men after their triple threat world title match at Heatwave. This is a straight up brawl from start to finish. Both men give it their all in what ends up being one of the better matches in AEW in recent memory. The end comes when a frustrated Okada escapes the Last Chancery. Both men now stood up, Okada turns Aries around with a thunderous slap, then hits a german suplex followed by a Rainmaker that nearly turns Aries inside out. Okada gets the victory.

            Okada wins by pinfall

This is an even more aggressive Okada than we're used to seeing. He wants that world title back, that much is clear.

            ---
Backstage, Junior Elite Champion PJ Black is delivering a promo to the camera. By his side is Chavo Guerrero.

Black: I have some unfortunate news for everyone. After talking to a doctor, it turns out I'm not cleared to compete tonight due to an elbow injury I've been dealing with. In my place though will be this man.

            Black turns to Chavo

Chavo: That's right, and TJ Perkins, don't take this as a day off. Because like I said, PJ Black embodies the spirit of Eddie Guerrero, I have his blood in me. You're about to find out exactly what Guerrero means.
            ---

Match #3 - Chavo Guerrero (w/ PJ Black) vs. TJ Perkins

The match begins with some chain wrestling where Guerrero shows he can still go, but once Perkins gets going Chavo is not equipped to stop him. Perkins hits some cool combos before finally hitting the Detonation Kick and winning it.

            Perkins wins by pinfall

Chavo rolls out of the ring and Black supports him as they walks to the Black. Big win for Perkins as he continues to build momentum with the Junior Elite Championship in his sight.

            ---

In the locker room, Cody is talking to Next Gen Unrivaled, who are still incensed after being cost their first round tourney match by The Young Bucks.

Cody: Guys guys guys, I brought you in to Bullet Club because I know what you're capable of. You're a hell of a tag team.

Finlay: How do ya suppose we do our thing as a tag team when our own teammates are costing us matches?

Cody: That's not what Bullet Club is about... that's why I told Nick and Matt not to come to the arena tonight. I want you guys out there with me for my match tonight. I told you when you got here that we would win matches and that's exactly what we've been doing.

Hall: So we're just supposed to keep teaming with those sons of b*tches?

Cody: Things are messy right now, but we're gonna figure this out. Bullet Club is changing wrestling!

Cody holds up the 2-sweet and after a few seconds of hesitation. Hall and Finlay throw it up as well. They walk out of the locker room for Cody's match.
            ---

Match #4 - Cody (w/ Hall & Finlay vs. Johnny Elite)

Elite starts the match off hot and is in firm control until Cody drops him with a big knee to the the gut that takes all the air out of him. Cody stays on the attack with multiple chin locks and holds designed to keep Elite gasping for air.

Elite starts to mount a bit of a comeback, when all of the sudden two men run in from the crowd and attack Hall and Finlay on the outside. The ref rings the bell.

            NO CONTEST

It's The Young Bucks! Double superkick drops Finlay on the outside! Both men turn their attention to Cody Hall, double superkick!

Cody is freaking out in the ring screaming at The Bucks to stop. The Bucks walk off as the crowd gives them a standing ovation.

            ---

Match #5 - PCO vs. Eli Drake

A rather short match. PCO brings his usual hard hitting aggressive style until Drake cuts him off. Drake gloats and prances around the ring as he beats down the veteran, when all of the sudden PCO catches Drake in a rollup pin and wins it.

            PCO wins by pinfall

Drake is shocked! He argues with the ref over the speed of the count as the show goes to commercial. PCO with his first win in AEW.

            ---

            B]Match #6 - Intercontinental Championship - Walter © vs. Kongo Kong[/B]

This is one of those matches that ends up being way better than it has any right to be. It's a classic hoss battle with the added twist of the deceptive athleticism of Kongo Kong. Both men beat the absolute hell out of each other with a ton of stiff strikes. Kong hits runs the apron and jumps off taking out Walter on the outside. At this point the crowd is 100% into this one.

It's an amazing showing for Kong as he kicks out of not one, but two power bombs by Walter. Walter also kicks out of a Kong backbreaker that had everyone in the arena thinking they were gonna see a new champion.

It's the third power bomb however that puts away Kong for good and finally ends the match.

            Walter wins by pinfall

Walter celebrates in the ring as Kong walks off, his facepaint worn from a hell of a battle. Nothing to be ashamed of tonight for Kongo Kong.

            Spoiler

The show goes to commercial break.

            ---

The show gets back on the air when Chris Jerichos music hits. The crowd pops initially, but no one comes out. The music dies out, still no Jericho.

The music starts up again, but once again a few more seconds pass by with no Jericho. The crowd is now fully booing as they feel robbed of a Jericho appearance. The show ends in one of the coldest endings to an AEW show in history.

Still, this crowd has more coming to them tonight as round one of the Tag Contenders Tourney will continue right now on Facebook Live. The question is, where is Chris Jericho?

              TAG CONTENDERS TOURNAMENT
              WEEK 2 OF 4

*wrote up half of this then accidentally lost it, so I'm gonna do quick results*

Warm up match - PAC vs. Eddie Edwards vs. Kid Lykos

A match between one half of the two semi final teams and one half of the tag champs. In the end PAC hits the Black Arrow on Edwards and wins it.

              PAC wins by pinfall

              ---

Round 1 Tourney Match - The Bouncers vs. The Lucha Brothers

A match that see the super heavyweight team mostly dominate the cruiserweight tag team. Even the world champion struggles early on against BCB and Milonas, but eventually when Fenix is about to hit a dive from the top on BCB, someone runs in and strikes The Bruiser, causing a DQ.

              The Bouncers win by DQ

Chris Jericho! Jericho runs over and knocks Fenix off the top rope sending him crashing all the way to the floor. Jericho leaves through the crowd before Pentagon can get up and retaliate.

              ---

Round 1 Tourney Match - Sabre & Sabin vs. The Golden Lovers

A PPV main event level tag match that sees both teams going back and forth. Multiple finishers are hit and it seems to be close to ending on multiple occasions. In the end Ibushi hits a running powebomb on Sabre Jr. and gets the win.

The Golden Lovers win by pinfall

With that the Golden Lovers advance to round 2 where they'll face CCK. Round 2 will take place next week.

I think match #2 is supposed to be Lucha Brothers or something. I was really confused when it said Golden Lovers and then Fenix showed up in the write up.

Yeah you're right. I typed it up real quick after finding I accidentally deleted the full version. Also noticed I sometimes refer to "The Golden Lovers" as "The Golden Brothers" which is what they're listed as in the bracket. That's also a mistake.

AEW August Week 1 & Tag Contenders Tournament Semi-Finals
                    by Paul Marshall

The current main event being advertised for AEW Thursday Night is Okada vs. Fenix in one on one competition. This will be their second matchup in AEW.

Chris Jericho is confirmed to be in attendance and will appear on screen to address his actions last week, where he cost Pentagon & Fenix their round one match in the tag tourney.

Brian Cage will take on Dave Mastiff in a rematch after Mastiff raked the eyes and pulled off an underhanded win.

As the antics of Junior Elite Champion PJ Black and his new manager Chavo Guerrero continue, the roster seems to be growing more and more impatient. This week it will be Johnny Elite taking a shot at slowing down the champion.

Cody has announced that he will be hosting a "State of the Bullet Club" address after the in house turmoil between The Young Bucks and Next Gen Unrivaled reached a boiling point at the Tag Contenders Tourney and at AEW last week. All 5 members of Bullet Club will be in the ring for this address.

                    ---

As for the tag contenders tourney, we're now in the semi finals stage. The Golden Lovers will be taking on the underdog team of CCK. Also in semi finals action are the team of Beer City Bruiser and Brian Milonas as the over quarter ton duo looks to knock off the unlikely - but successful tandem of PAC and Jay Lethal.

The winners of those two matches will be facing off in the finals next week.

I figure it's a good way to convey the storylines and character progressions that are going on without making each show too long to type.

                          SHOW OPENER

The show begins with the music of Chris Jericho. Jericho is finally gonna come down to the ring and speak about his actions over the last couple of weeks targeting the world champion Pentagon Jr. He's not alone though. Jericho is surrounded by the 600+ pound team of Brian Milonas and Beer City Bruiser, The Bouncers. He helped those two men win their match against Fenix and Pentagon in the Tag Contenders Tourney by way of DQ.

The crowd is half booing, half chanting "Y2J! Y2J!"

Jericho: The first thing I'm gonna do is request that every single one of you fans in this arena shut the hell up if you want me to speak.

                          "BOOOOOOOO!"

Jericho pauses and says nothing, waiting for the boos to subside. They don't.

Jericho: I won't say another word unless I hear silence, and I mean complete silence.

The crowd continues to boo. Some jokesters try shushing their fellow crowd members, but to no avail.

Jericho: Exactly what I expected. Let's get out of here.

Jericho motions for The Bouncers to leave, and the crowd boos big time. That's when Pentagons entrance music hits and the world champion runs down to the ring along with his tag partner Fenix!

Jericho gets behind Milonas and BCB! Pentagon and Fenix start exchanging blows with the two behemoths in an attempt to get to Jericho. Pentagon hits a superkick that sends Milonas out of the ring, and Fenix does the same with a dropkick. By the time they do this however, Jericho is long gone. Pentagon and Fenix are fired up as The Bouncers cower away and the show goes to an ad break.

                          *AFTER AD BREAK*

Jericho and The Bouncers are in the parking lot and are approached by an interviewer.

Interviewer: Excuse mr Mr. Jericho can you explain your relationship with The Bouncers and why you refused to speak in the ring earlier.

Jericho: My relationship with The Bouncers is one of business. I pay them, they keep those masked freaks away from me. What I was gonna say out there before the crowd interrupted me is that if Pentagon wants to fight me, it'll be on my terms, not his. These two guys are gonna make sure of that. Now get out of my face.

A driver pulls up and Jericho gets in. The crowd boos. The Bouncers stay behind as they have a semi-finals tag match later tonight.
Match #1 - Dave Mastiff vs. Brian Cage

A battle reminiscent of last weeks showdown between these two men. A combination of power and shocking athleticism from two giant men. The difference is that this week, Mastiff isn't able to rake Cage's eyes to steal a victory. Instead, Cage floors Mastiff with an absolutely thunderous Weapon X to get his win back.

                          Brian Cage wins by pinfall

                          ---

Match #2 - PJ Black (w/ Chavo Guerrero) vs. Johnny Elite

A good back and forth match. Black grounds Elite early on and stays on him with some rest holds. Eventually however Elite comes back and really takes over the match. Elite sets up for Starship Pain, but Chavo runs in and attacks him.

                          Johnny Elite wins by DQ

Chavo rolls Black out of the ring and hands him his title, and the two go to leave up the ramp, but TJ Perkins and Will Ospreay run down! Ospreay was last seen at Heatwave where he was screwed by Chavo and Black for the belt!

Perkins and Ospreay brawl with Black and Guerrero, pushing them towards the ring. They enter the ring and Black runs right into a big jumping back kick from Johnny Elite! Chavo and Black roll out of the ring and Perkins grabs a mic.

Perkins: Hey PJ, Chavo... we are sick and tired of cheating your way out of every situation. We're taking this division back!

                          ---

Walter comes down to the ring with his IC Title over his shoulder.

Walter: Last week I had one of the toughest matches of my life against Kongo Kong where I defended this title. I have to say I like the way that felt, so I'm gonna do it again tonight! Open challenge to anyone in the back who wants it.

After a few seconds of waiting, Eli Drakes music hits. He of course wants to talk first.

Drake: Well if it isn't the biggest dummy on the AEW roster! Let me guess, you realized last week how much pressure it is to hold on to gold, and you wanna drop the belt quick. Well luckily, I can make that happen.

PCO music hits now and he comes down to the ring.

PCO: Eli you son of a bit*h, last week I pinned you. Now no match will happen unless I'm in it!

Walter: So then lets go! Triple threat!

A look of fear and frustration hits Drakes face as the ref grabs Walters belt and prepares to ring the bell. Here we go!
Match #3 - Intercontinental Championship - Walter © vs. Eli Drake vs. PCO

A hard hitting stiff contest that sees Drake trying to sit back and let Walter and PCO beat the hell out of each other. Any time he does however it backfires, as PCO and Walter come after him and beat him down. Eventually he gets the message and it becomes a full on 3-way matchup. There's a few close calls as the machine like PCO manages to kick out of some insane offense. In the end however Walter is able to drop Eli with a big boot, then hit a power bomb on PCO and win it.

                          Walter wins by pinfall

That's now two defenses for the big man Walter. Very impressive.

                          ---

Match #4 - Okada vs. Fenix

A rematch from a number of weeks ago and these two never disappoint. They absolutely tear the house down. Two rainmakers isn't enough to put away Fenix as he just won't stay down. In the end however, Fenix goes for a 450 splash but Okada gets his knees up. Quick rollup pin, 1-2-3!

                          Okada wins by pinfall

That's now the second time that Okada has pinned Fenix off a rollup. Big win regardless after a hell of a match.

                          ---

State of The Bullet Club Address

The Bullet Clubs music hits and Cody comes down to the ring accompanied by Cody Hall and David Finlay. No sign of The Young Bucks.

Cody: Ladies and gentlemen we're here today because these last couple of months, my brotherhood has been falling apart at the seems piece by piece, and I realize that if -

Cody is drowned out by a "We want Young Bucks!" chant

Cody: Let me get to that... I realize that if I don't do something about it, I might lose the magic that is Bullet Club forever. Now when I brought in Hall and Finlay, it was because both The Young Bucks and I were on a losing streak, and I felt that we needed some new energy in the team. And what happened? Exactly that, these two men have shown that they are on of the best tag teams in the world.

                          The crowd boos.

Cody: So what needs to happen right now is - Matt, Nick - I know you're out there. Come out here and lets fix this once and for all.

After a few moment of anticipation, The Bucks music hits. They get a nice pop, and make their way down to the ring.

Cody: First of all thank you guys for coming down here.

Finlay: Ya got some real balls coming down here after costing us a tourney match - I've got a right mind to slap the both of ya right now.

Matt: Why don't you do that then - we could do that!

The crowd has a big reaction to the intensity of Matt

Cody: STOP! That's exactly what this is about stopping. All five of us would be an unstoppable unit if we just called it truce and focused on the rest of the roster. You two (points at The Bucks) have had your head up your a**es ever since your losing streak started - and you've both become too jaded to see that.

Nick: I'm gonna stop you right there Cody because that's the exact problem with you. Somehow you have the gall to blame this all on us when you yourself have done nothing in AEW for the last 4 months.

Cody: It's not about blaming it's about being a leader and making the right decisions

Nick: Oh the right decisions - like bringing in a couple second rate scrubs who know how to distract a referee and hit people with brass knuckles?

The crowd lets out an "ohh" Cody gets in the face of Nick Jackson, and Matt steps in to separate them

Cody: Enough of this - let me just get to the point. I'm giving the both of you an ultimatum. We can either put the past behind us and work as a unit, or you two can leave and figure things out on your own.

Matt: That's where you're wrong Cody. See The Bullet Club isn't about you. As a matter of a fact we were in the Bullet Club while you were still wearing face paint pretending to be your brother.

The crowd lets out another "ohhh" and Cody tries to hold back how offended he is.

Matt: So here how this is gonna go. YOU don't make the ultimatums - WE do. And we're gonna do what you did, but way better. You wanna replace us with a second rate tag team - we're gonna replace you with a top rate ace.

Cody: REPLACE ME!? You can't replace the leader -

                          Nick: Watch us...

Nick and Matt do an outsiders style point to the entrance ramp - and the music of none other than Nic Nemeth hits! Nemeth (formerly Dolph Ziggler) hasn't been seen in person in AEW since the first show of the new season - and since not seen at all since the cryptic videos he was making months ago on a weekly basis.

Nemeth comes to the top of the entrance ramp. He's sporting all black hair and is fully decked out in Bullet Club gear.

The copyright logo pops up in the corner as Cody and Next Gen unrivaled stare down Nemeth from the ring with a look of disbelief on their faces. The Young Bucks have just introduced the newest ace of Bullet Club!

Jericho aligning with the Bouncers, or vice versa is big for Jericho.

The announcement of Nemeth as the new Bullet Club member is awesome. I like him aligned with the Young Bucks A LOT!!!

It's definitely a huge (pun intended) move for Y2J. Keep Pentagon away from him until he "gives him what he wants." I might just have them recite the Batista HHH promo in full.

Nemeth teaming with The Bucks just makes sense doesn't it. Their styles would probably mesh so well in and out of the ring.

I think Nemeth and the Young Bucks together is quite amazing, man!

I am loving the layout. Easy on the eyes...much better than mine somedays, haha.

Overall I am enjoying all the stuff you have going on. I am excited to see what's next for Jericho with this build.
