SMU won't be in the Big East... just like they won't be in the SEC.

Big East presidents and chancellors gave commissioner John Marinatto the go ahead Sunday to "aggressively pursue" expansion discussions with select candidates that have expressed an interest in joining the league.

According to sources familiar with the process, but not authorized to talk about negotiations, the Big East is focusing on Southern Methodist, Central Florida, Navy, and Temple as the primary targets for football.
Air Force and Navy are believed to be the top candidates to add to the league as football-only members. Katz, citing a source, said Army, Temple, UCF and SMU were discussed during the five-hour meeting.

I don't think SMU has a chance at the SEC, but I could see them in the Big East.

So....the Big East kicks out temple football and now gets desperate and says "we're sorry, please come back?". Ok then.

I don't have the link with me but I read on ESPN that Tulane is on the Big 12s list to expand which is just as ridiculous as SMU to SEC lol.

Tulane is in a large city in a large stadium and gives them a little more recruiting ability in a southern state. That's not a bad idea. Add the AQ moniker to Tulane, and they would be able to play good football after 5 years. Not a bad idea at all.

Only problem is the team is terrible. They have no fans and New Orleans belongs to LSU. If they became good then maybe but I used to be stationed in New Orleans and it's hard to see them supporting Tulane. Plus I'm not sure if they are committed to winning. They are in the same boat as Rice is.

Is Missouri dumb or do they just not want to be in the SEC? Wow.

Missouri hoped to join the Big Ten last year but the league instead chose Nebraska. The university official said the Big Ten remains Missouri's top choice but that conference "has no interest."

"That's what's left," the official said, referring to the SEC.

I'm sure that comment will play well with the SEC types, whose whole schtick is creating and reinforcing the idea of superiority over any other conference.

Seriously, Mizzou needs to just commit to the Big 12 and call it good. See what I mean when I said that Missouri is not a good fit AT ALL for the SEC?

I agree. I think Missouri fits best with the Big 12. They would seem too out of place in the SEC.

They seem to fine to me since they are straight north of Arkansas. They should go to the Big Ten with Kansas(with possibly KSU & Rutgers) but they're too busy waiting by their phone waiting for ND to call to not realize that their expansion possibilities are drying up around them.

Especially because Missouri never fully seceded from the Union...

(Someone a while back posted a link to a Georgia site complaining West Virginia would be a bad fit because they failed to secede from the Union in the Civil War)

I think the Big Ten feels they can get whoever they want, whenever they want. The only thing that would force the conference to make a move would be Notre Dame.

Right now the B1G only wants teams that will clearly increase the money split that each institution receives. That is why everyone knows that Notre Dame and probably Texas are the only two for sure programs that the B1G would admit.

East coast schools are likely given some leeway as the B1G figures their inclusion in the conference will cause an increase of viewership for the new member institution.

Unfortunately for Missouri it is not on the East Coast nor does it offer up a good chance to increase the piece of the pie that each current B1G institution receives. I honestly doubt most of the B1G institutions care whether or not Missouri goes to the SEC.

In fact I wouldn't be surprised if they actually want Missouri in the SEC. That would mean that the Big12 would need atleast two new admittals and that means possibly two more Universities pulled from the Big East. The B1G definately wants to see an implosion of the Big East in order to push Notre Dame towards making a conference choice.
