Big 10? Doubt they're interested in adding anyone further right now.

Big 12? If they add 2 more to get a CCG, then it's Rutgers vs. Louisville vs. Air Force vs. BYU. Good chance Rutgers and Cincinnati are staying in the Big East. Louisville is likely the best bet out of the Big East teams to get into the Big 12.

Unless BYU and Air Force both reject a Big 12 offer or the Big 10 decides to expand, good chance Rutgers is staying right where they are.
The Big 12 already dropped their academic standards to allow WVU in -- you think they will allow another academically mediocre school like UL in as well?

The SEC has better academic standards than the Big 12.

Didn't Air Force already reject a Big 12 offer? I remember reading an article about Hans Mueh (Air Force AD) saying that Big 12 came knocking. Air Force said no because they have enough trouble recruiting against the Mountain West plus travel to Big 12 schools would be very difficult on student athletes who have to put up with a lot more than the usual student athlete.

Air Force's name is one that's popped up in possible Big 12 expansion candidates, and according to a report in the Denver Post, the conference explored the possibility of adding the Falcons.

The director at Air Force is retiring next year so who knows if Air Force will change their mind.

Mueh was against it, but really, the school presidents make these kinds of decision. AFA isn't your typical athletic department, so Gould, who is the Lt. General would be the one making the decision. He is retiring in the next year or so, so AFA rumors come back in case the next person in charge is for it. Mueh doesn't want to go to the Big East or the Big 12 or any other conference. AD's don't really make the decisions though. I think the next person might have to consider the money based on the new Big 12 TV contract.

Even without AFA, I think the Big 12 looks at Louisville before Rutgers...and they certainly want BYU I would have to think.

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows

If it were up to me and the Blue and Red divisions and non-geographic alignment for the Big East is going to stick, I'd rather just align the conference by uniform color.

              Red:
              Houston
              Cincinnati
              Rutgers
              Temple
              Louisville
              San Diego State
              South Florida/UCF/SMU/14th Team

              Blue:
              Navy
              Memphis
              Boise State
              Connecticut
              South Florida/UCF/SMU/14th Team
              South Florida/UCF/SMU/14th Team
              South Florida/UCF/SMU/14th Team

USF and UCF could be in either division because they don't have either of those as a school color. SMU could be in either one because it has both. And we don't know what color the 14th team will wear.

That reminds me when I was in school and I had written a report for class that with the addition of the Falcons they should have the Animal Football Conference(AFC) and Non-Animal Football Conference(NFC)

How so? Strength of conference or route to winning a conference? As of now, 7 of the 10 BigXII teams are undefeated. Compared to the B1G where only 3 out of 12 teams are undefeated, and 1 of those teams is ineligible.

                        Pathetic.

Now the SEC and ACC will be "conferences" where each conference member will only play seven of the 13 members (besides themselves) of the conference each year. Isn't that terrible?

I guess it's another guaranteed win against some crappy mid-major, though (though maybe not in the ACC's case given Georgia Tech and Virginia this past week).

Navy is poo-pooing coming aboard early. The AD says there are too many issues.

I missed this earlier, but Utah Valley and Cal State bakersfield are joining the WAC. Now they have six programs. Utah Vallet may pursue football in the future. The WAC isn't out of the woods yet, because Idaho may still join the Big Sky.

Before 2003, the Western Athletic Conference had produced multiple NCAA tournament teams for 20 straight seasons. As recently as 1999, the league put three teams into a single year's March Madness...
