Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
The ACC should offer the house to ND. Align the divisions so they're with BC and play the U every year. Let them keep their network. Let them arrange when they want to play conference games (Early year, end of year, noon, night, etc.)
ND would keep the ACC relevant in Football.Last edited by TDenverFan; 11-19-2012, 05:45 PM.Football: Denver Broncos

I'm not saying that anybody should be excited about the UConn football program joining your conference, because you shouldn't. But UConn traveled ok to that bowl game, just everybody bought tickets through stubhub because they were much cheaper.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

I still don't get what Maryland offers, I understand Rutgers(alot of TVs and football could be good) bit why the Terps!
As far as the ACC getting poached to the point of not being a BCS conference, I could not disagree more. I just don't see the SEC grabbing teams just to add teams. Losing Maryland will not hurt the ACC, they are easily replaceable. My dog's butt smells like cookiesComment

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
Maryland offers the Washington D.C. media market. Rutgers offers the NYC media market. That's really all the B1G cares about (along with academics, I guess). Quality football and/or basketball be damned (though Rutgers is at least decent at football these days).
I'm glad to see Rutgers finally get out of the sinking Big East Conference, though.Comment

I get that, it's also hard to justify buying tix to a game across the country when your team is a massive underdog. If Rutgers were to win the BE I would suspect that their tickets sold would be similar to UCONN, each has new success at football and each would be huge dog.

The product is going to get worse with Maryland being one of the worst football teams in the B1G. Rutgers will probably be around Northwesterns level.Fan of... Michigan Wolverines, Detroit Lions, Detroit Tigers, Detroit Red Wings, and Detroit Pistons

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
So, Rutgers and Maryland are joining the Big10 to open up more "media markets"? how can anyone dismiss the absurdity of this? we live in the age of the internet, with national TV networks, and the mythical "media market" is the reason for these teams changing conferences? i think that's given as a reason because otherwise, like most of the re-alignment, it makes absolutely no sense. So, Rutgers and Maryland are in the Big10 because of media markets? Not to make the conference stronger in football or basketball, not for academics. what was a midwestern conference now has two teams mere miles from the atlantic ocean.
i think a lot of fans are getting sick of this endless re-alignment. i was reading on one forum where ACC fans want their old conference back. they miss playing every team in their conference twice in basketball and stuff like that.Comment

SEC will do and has been doing the same thing the B1G is doing. Expanding their TV market. Texas A&M, Missouri they brought them in for the TV coverage. Same reason I think the SEC will poach the ACC to move up the coast some getting more TV revenue.
The problem with conferences trying to move into new markets is that it doesn't guarantee anything. For instance the B1G is banking on $200 million dollars by expanding the Big Ten Network but that is if negotiations go perfect when they renegotatiate in 2017.

As far as the SEC goes, who are they going to add? I feel like adding anyone from the ACC will just water their conference down, that already own just about every TV market in the nation(CBS). The ACC will get a team in the National Title conversation every few years but that's not going to be good enough for the SEC. I do hope the playoffs get expanded to 8 teams since that would be a pretty good chance to get a team in the chase every year. I feel like the SEC would be better off poaching the BIG12 and if that happened the BIG 12 would be in no position to poach the ACCMy dog's butt smells like cookiesComment
