I wonder if App State would even accept the invitation. They've been discussing going 1A for a long time (at least 15 years, when my brother started there) and the argument is whether they want to continue being a very successful 1AA team, or move to 1A and struggle.

I don't think they would ever become a consistent National Championship contender at the 1A level like they are at the 1AA level.

Socyberty is reporting Pitt and Virginia Tech will be announced as teams #15 and #16 for the B1G on Friday.

Take that with 15,001 shakers full of salt. Good for a laugh, though.

If that was UVA instead of VPISU I might believe it.

Well, it would take Joe Paterno dropping dead for PITT to get into the B1G

Well, they may have the best and most loyal football fan base in the state of North Carolina over State and UNC and maybe even ECU. It's impossible to get a ticket to Rock. I get App State may be wobbly about going, but you may wanna take it, because it may be your last crack at it for awhile

App St. is interesting because they have this niche at a lower level. They've had this debate about moving up for at least 20 years and they seem fine with their place and the Southern Conference.

That's probably Idaho's last hope for FBS football. Maybe NMSU's as well.

I'm a little stunned the Sun Belt has done a 180 on Idaho or New Mexico State. Since the former WAC commish is now the Sun Belt commish, he knows better than anyone how annoying it is to get to Moscow. New Mexico State is without a 2 hour plane ride of North Texas at least. Both these schools were in the Sun Belt a while back when it first formed. It would be be nice of them to acknowledge their help in getting the conference's football foundation set. Hope they both get in, even if Idaho does belong in the Big Sky.

I wonder if Idaho might be football only, and use the Big Sky for other sports.

Yeah, New Mexico State may be football only too since they are outside the "footprint" of the Sun Belt. Then you'd have 11 football teams and 10 basketball teams. The only thing is that Idaho and New Mexico State were thorns in Karl Benson's side while in the WAC and were the ones that pushed his removal as commish before the league fell apart last summer. There may be too much bad blood, especially with Idaho who really were the ringleaders of the WAC.

On the other hand, does the Sun Belt want a bunch of transition programs along with Georgia Southern making the move up along with Georgia State and South Alabama just making the move up.
