Those are two separate things though Squid, RBP and untethering ball. The ball can be untethered or have no path scripting, yet still there be no RBP. That would just mean the ball is independent but there is no specific system to target a point in the route vs targeting the receiver. So as I understand it, the ball is supposed to be untethered now but we can still only target the receiver or their proximity when passing.

I don't think the ball physics engage until the ball makes contact with something. Everything prior to that I believe is the same.Comment

Re: I've played ~40 hours of Madden 17: AMAlmost Anything (Answers in first post)
For years the ball would snap to a player's hand in a catch even though in the process the ball might be pulled through a defender. Now it will collide with body parts and be knocked out when appropriate.
Since the ball is reacting to more objects, there are more drops for receivers in traffic, and initiating a possession catch in traffic (and alternately not doing run-after-catch in traffic) is more important.

I think the term untethered here simply means the ball acts independently from animations. So in madden 16 there was that one pass break up animation that would ALWAYS send the ball 5 yards into the air hanging waiting to be picked off. Now when that animation plays the ball will react differently every time.
I don't know if I'm really understanding your question though.Comment

I'll try harder, lol. This is what I am asking about/referring to, especially the bold, can you give examples of that?:

Oh OK. Yeah, I saw things like the ball interacting with an arm between a receiver's hands and things like that. Just to be clear again the physics don't start until there's contact with something in the game world though, so there are certain things and situations that still won't happen with this system.
You won't see things like juggling catches or the ball popping out and the receiver catching it against his leg or anything like that. Although I did see a LB tip a ball in the air and pick it which was cool.Comment

Re: I've played ~40 hours of Madden 17: AMAlmost Anything (Answers in first post)
i always understood "tethering" to mean the ball is thrown to a receiver not a route. So if your guy is running a flag and you throw the ball too soon it's still being thrown at the wr, where if you threw the ball too soon in RBP the receiver would simply have no chance to get to it or would have to haul *** to catch up to it.

Right, though certain animations still may produce a certain result more often than others (like a downward swat compared to an upward one)Comment

Re: I've played ~40 hours of Madden 17: AMAlmost Anything (Answers in first post)
Quick question about the tackle battle and how it's tied to ratings, does the tackle battle happen randomly? Or is it say there's an 88 tackle linebacker taking on a 86 truck RB so boom tackle battle?
I guess what I'm asking is are the battles random or do ratings determine when they happen?Comment

On dropped passes to receivers does the ball still hit their hands like bricks and fall straight to the ground or can it go through the hands and off shoulder pads and such?Comment

Re: I've played ~40 hours of Madden 17: AMAlmost Anything (Answers in first post)
I do know the battles are limited to 1-on-1 standing tackles and that they don't happen every time even on those situations. I'm not 100% sure what triggers them within those certain parameters.
The good thing is they can tune how often they play out, how tight the timing window is, etc, so if they are supposed to happen with players within a certain range, they can tighten or loosen that range if necessary.

On straight drops without defender interaction it's mostly the former.Comment
