It's really not much to understand, it's suppose to enhance the picture not degrade it. 4k is just resolution, HDR just produces a higher range of luminosity such as shadow detail, brightness from the sun, enhanced colors, and detail. The problem is Madden' s HDR is not incorporated right.

Looks awesome to me on my Sony. Not hearing much others say otherwise except you and a handful of others.

I can make it look awesome on my oled but will sacrifice detail, brightness, and lag. I'm talking strictly hdr game mode on the oled

1000% agree with 49uncfan.

Madden did not do a good job with hdr.

I bought 2 more TVs in the last week to test hdr. One of them being the LG C7 rated the best HDR Gaming TV for 2017 (rtings.com).

Madden still doesn't look good, nba 2k18 looks AMAZING.

Yes I know how to calibrate a TV.
I have used both Xbox one s and ps4 pro.
I have used 3 different 4k HDR TVs in the last week.

The problem is Madden.

And if you are wondering why I bought 2 TVs in the last week just to test Maddens HDR? Troubleshooting is my job, it's what I love to do.

Mine looks amazing on my JS7000 Samsung. I do only have the regular PS4 and not the pro, but i was shocked how good it looked based on what i am working with. I can only imagine how much better it looks with HDR.

This is why I play on a 4k monitor . I don't have to adjust anything. I've always preferred a monitor for refresh rate and screen clarity.[ATTACH]140844[/ATTACH]

Mine looks amazing on my JS7000 Samsung. I do only have the regular PS4 and not the pro, but i was shocked how good it looked based on what i am working with. I can only imagine how much better it looks with HDR.

I agree that the HDR is not great in Madden. On my Sony x900e it is an improvement, but it loses the pop that the game had before. What it looks like now is more realistic, on a cloudy day, even if you are playing on a sunny afternoon game.

I tried boosting and decreasing and various combinations of the brightness and contrast in Madden itself. Al boosting the brightness and/or contrast does is ruin the image, losing all the detail. It gets the "pop" back, but at the sacrifice of the extra detail.

I don't think Madden's HDR is broke are unplayable, just not ideal. But some of the recommendations here seem way off base.

And anyone trying to show 4K and HDR in a screenshot doesn't understand that they are not getting the image they see. My iMac can go to 1080p, but I actually use 900p most of the time.

HDR on a camera in a phone is not the HDR they put into games, and taking pictures of a TV is the absolute worse way to show off the image you see. This is the problem with marketing HDR and 4K. You can't show the people who don't have TVs or monitors that display it.

Every time a new game comes, out, people complain about HDR. I think it's mostly in the expectations. The only game I know of where HDR was truly busted was this year's MLB The Show. I think the 'realism' that HDR adds is not what people are expecting. I personally prefer a visual look that is more saturated and brighter lights than what would be considered realistic.

People on AVS forums go nuts over HDR but to be totally frank I think a lot of it is psychological. The differences in most HDR content are very subtle. There have been a lot of times that I didn't even know if content was HDR until I compared it with non HDR version.

I thought the HDR was jaw dropping in Forza Horizon 3.

Thought the HDR on Netflix for Iron Fist was really bad. Well, it was kind of cool, but did weird, distracting stuff. If I watched it via my XB1S, I got 4K HDR. If I loaded up Netflix on my Tivo, I got regular HD.

The HDR in Jessica Jones makes the picture really dark. There were some scenes that were hard to make out.

Overall, I think you are right. People think HDR means more popping color, when it means more subtle effects. I like the more saturated and bright looks, too. But trying to get that, at least on Madden, resulted in pretty ugly results.

As usual, I went back to default settings, got my TV back to where it was before I started trying to "fix" Madden, and now everything looks fine. Madden is back to being much better looking, but a bit darker. NBA 2K18 is freaking perfect, even though it also goes a bit darker.

It is pretty disgusting on a normal PS4. I have a KS9500 Samsung and I had to turn HDR off on the TV to even be able to play the game after the HDR patch.

It's quite pathetic really just how bad it is. I don't know if it's a normal PS4 thing instead of being a Pro or what it is.

I understand the whole you can see HDR from a pic but it is the best way currently to try to distinguish the two.
This is Madden running in HDR Standard or Bright all I'm asking for is for me to be able to achieve this look on HDR Game Mode without sacrificing detail.

The best picture I've achieved on my ks8500 with ps4 pro is to set dynamic contrast to high, and up the in game constrast by one. The default settings without dynamic contrast look terrible, but I've yet to find an HDR game that didn't need DC cranked all the way up to look good.
