I doubt we get an APF type of game, but we have zero idea what "Simulation" means in the EA and NFL agreement. Anyone who says they know what kind of game 2k can and cannot make is lying.

Simulation could mean a host of different things and only EA, 2k, and the NFL know what the limitations are. I've seen a lot of people basically assuming Simulation means one thing or another, but we literally have zero idea how the contracts define Simulation.

Simulation could literally mean 11 on 11 gameplay or it could mean a multi-year franchise mode with the same structure as the NFL. We have zero clue as to what 2k can make.

I'm setting my expectations low so that I can potentially be genuinely surprised, but I'm going to assume it'll be a pick up and play casual game that I won't care too much about. However, hopefully this all leads to NFL 2k returning in an OPEN NFL market that allows multiple games to exist again.

I just want to chip in and say we don't know what "simulation" means, so we don't have any idea of what 2k c an and cannot do yet.

I wish I knew what "simulation" meant......

But hey, just do the opposite of what the Empire is doing. It will instantly be the best thing since 2k5.

Look how bold 2k was about allpro in this Article and was ready for the backlash out the gate but quiet as a mouse this time around. Hmmm...

Well, that preview came out a few months before the game's release. Let's wait till this April to see how things churn out this time.

Also, we don't know how the pandemic has affected the development stages as well.

I can see how the pandemic could have affected development. Most likely whatever they're releasing, would have released prior to Madden. But who knows now. I still think we could hear something as soon as post-Superbowl-April. Being that it is a new game, it isn't something that you just release info a month before launch. I think they take the approach they did with Battlegrounds where they release info months ahead of time

2021 is here. Sim or not Arcade or not. Something is going to get released this year. At least I hope it does unless COVID-19 impacted whatever they were working on.

Depending on how loose the terms are, it could be as simple as having every player in a pool and then holding a fantasy draft for just some random, or potentially customizable franchises. Then again, it could be as strict as not allowing full numbers, or even some of the NFL rules. Time will tell. All I hope is that this isn't some snake ploy by EA and the NFLPA to get 2K to make a great code and build some great bones, only so that they can give EA ideas on how to make an actual football game. Everything that makes Madden what it is today came from 2K... Only that the uninspired minds at EA stopped trying to improve on it. And the silly gamer just kept buying roster updates and MUT micro transactions.

In the same vain, there was a guy maybe 5-6 years ago, partnered somehow with Joe Montana I believe and was creating this "sim football game" with the license and everything, and sort of went viral and was calling ea out, saying his game wasnt just a roster update etc, and it ended up being some silly mobile game that nobody i know played or maybe it didnt come out? In any case this feels sort of like that. Like even most of us seem to have low expectations, theres this twinge of "maybe" in the back of our minds lol. we'll still be let down.

Eh. that was a completely different case. Damon turned out to be a scammer and nothing he did seemed right from the start.

He bought into people's thirst for a new game and some soaked it up purely out of desperation but still, most saw it for what it was. That guy was crowd surfing for his resources where as 2k used their own to not only get a piece of the NFL license but also the NFLPA license (which in this case is actually verifiable).

This is a legit publisher and we know a game is coming. There is no question about that. What kind of game it is will be the question.

So a group of people on another forum found this

                            https://uspto.report/patent/grant/10,471,357

What I'm not sure if it's for the new game or if it's just the patents for the old NFL 2k games.

That definitely looks like all things 2K5.

Pretty nifty to see all that goes into designing the logic tree of a football video game, though.

The patent was granted in 2019 FWIW.
