Re: NFL 2K console game will be revealed June 7th at Summer Gamefest.
A game will come, was just never going to be part of this announcement.
And I’m not as convinced as others that EA and the NFL will renew the exclusive license when this deal is up. I don’t think they need each other anymore.
So as far as I’m concerned and I know it sucks - the longer the better if we want to hold out hope for the possibility of an actual competitor to Madden.

I think it's just more cost effective on EA's part to allow it to become 'non-exclusive' again cause the barrier for entry is so high (license fees plus development cost).
It's kind of why we are down to one game in every major US sport. Licensing fees plus development makes it damn near impossible to start up a new game.

Correct me if I'm wrong So if EA breakthrough this year 2024 and the license expires in 2026
EA can opt-in for 1 additional year 2027🤔
So that's 3 years more years we have to waitComment

I think a lot of the contractual obligation stuff is why none of the major sports titles (until college football's return) have abandoned last-gen.

EA CFB doesn't seem to have the revenue expectations and licensing costs as the other sports games. I would expect Madden 26 to be cross gen as well. Madden 25 last gen is likely will just be a roster update and QOL improvements. But, there will be plenty who spends a ton on microtransactions, so it'll stick around.Comment

I see people making that assumption (here and on YouTube), but just for fun I'd love to read why you think the exclusive deal might end?

I just think EA no longer needs the exclusive license (even for just simulation games). This entire generation has grown up only playing one NFL game. The license opening up fully would not threaten them at all.
Those that would buy 2K only would either be a miniscule dent to their bottom line or not even felt at all (people who haven't bought Madden in years).
If the NFL were to play hardball and say they will again make the license exclusive if EA doesn't pay up there is no doubt they will. I just don't see either party really being dependent on each other anymore.
(I say all this while acknowledging the NFL's business model has generally been to have exclusive parternships)Comment

I'll admit that I haven't seen or read any similar thoughts. Actually, the few things I've seen tend to trend the other direction.

I think you’re wrong tbh. Madden has been getting a bad rap now for years. Social media is a strong marketing tool. I can see people
Buying college football to get their ea fix and then getting 2k for their pro football game. Madden sells because football is king in america and people, like myself, get the itch to play a licensed football game. I know better and still always buy it when it goes on sale. The hype for a licensed 2k game would be just like the college football game hype. Social media would be hyping people up like crazy.

Re: NFL 2K console game will be revealed June 7th at Summer Gamefest. (Update: no new
Looks like we might have to wait until PS6 comes out
In 2028 because of the possible additional year that will lead to 2027 and then 2k dubut their game in 2028 if they can get sim rights
Basically 2k blew their load and had post load clarity
And realized this arcade stuff is not gonna sell

I just looked it up (again) - when adding the additional year - the deal between EA and the NFL ends in 2026 (Madden NFL '27) not '27.
The earliest we'd see a sim offering from 2K would be after the '26 season. That is three years away from August of this year (when Madden NFL '25 presumably releases).
Nevermind, I get what you are saying. That they'd wait until the following year of 2027 or the next of 2028 to debut this hypothetical NFL 2K to coincide with the next console gen. I think that is too long of a wait, IMO, and waiting to debut on a smaller install base is unwise (consoles don't seem to fly off the shelves like they use to).
The only question by then will is a second NFL game viable & attractive to consumers after only knowing 'Madden NFL' for 15 years?
Also, after seeing the 'advantage' of dropping the exclusivity to the FIFA (which isn't as valuable to pro soccer as the NFL license is to pro football) license. Will EA rethink their position on maintaining the exclusive license (at such a high premium cost) with the NFL?

At least this time GTA 6 will have come out beforehand, so with that infinite money glitch taking hold it's entirely possible that T2 will unload some of their built-up war chest on nabbing the NFL license from under EA, or at least enough to share it.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

How much was it that FIFA was demanding that ended their partnership with EA?

Re: NFL 2K console game will be revealed June 7th at Summer Gamefest. (Update: no new
I don’t think FIFA is an accurate comparison to make. It’s possible to make a professional soccer game without the FIFA license; all EA Sports loses is the World Cup and such. They already have all the club league licenses.
The same situation doesn’t exist with the NFL. Yes, they could just license the NFLPA, but no one is going to buy Madden NFLPA 27 without all the real teams’ logos and laundry. Similarly, Madden NFL 27 doesn’t work without the NFLPA license.
I don’t see a world where EA Sports doesn’t renew both licenses within the next two years. At best, they agree to a non-exclusive simulation console and PC license with one or both licensors, but I would call even that a long shot.Comment

It isn't a 1 - 1 comparison, true, but I would tend to believe that EA eventually wouldn't want to pony up $2+ billion for a license that they can solely use.
They've essentially priced most other publishers out of the market, plus the huge development costs to make a brand new NFL sim on top of that.
This is obviously all hypothetical and I'm of the opinion (still) that 2K should make an arcade game inspired by the original NFL 2K.
