The NFL is not hinging its future on the license tied to a videogame. This isn't like cleats or uniforms or even gatorade. They care that they are getting a very large amount of money and that EA isn't doing anything that would discredit their product... making an average next gen game isn't enough to say they are discrediting their product.

Exactly. The NFL also knows that Madden is their biggest seller that is not apparel. Quality of the gmae does not matter to them unless the game was a complete disaster. Say what you want about Madden, but it was more than passable by the NFL standards.

First, I wonder how the headset thing will work. And is this hinting at an anti-coach mode? I know games have let you "Ask Madden", but this almost sounds like a specific mode. Or am I reaching?

• 2K BROADCAST STYLE - New presentation style will combine TV broadcast with on field commentary bringing you closer to the action.

I never said that the nfl was hanging it's future on anything I`m simply saying that perhaps they would reconsider the deal.Or even get rid of it.Maybe they won't but I think they may at least consider it if this game lives up to expectations.And madden next gen isnt average it's pure garbage.

IMO the only way the NFL will reconsider or get rid of the deal is if this game sells ALOT. Seeing Madden being more than playable, and the current gen still selling strong, the NFL is very comfortable with EA. Alot of people still haven't adopted the next gen yet, and thats where most of the complaints lie with Madden.

I'm really hoping for color customization as well as various striping choice options - think Denver Broncos side swath, Oregon Ducks, etc. The team Bryce Paup is playing on has unique side striping it seems. Either way, if they give the option to choose colors, numbering highlights, striping, etc. I'd go crazy. Would be cool if they allow you to edit every team and different fonts but that's doubtful. But if you can take it online, it's be cool to see the designs people come up with - would be like showing off car designs in Forza.

Really like that they're going to have varying sock lengths also

Thats what I think. I think its just for your team. While that is cool, it doesnt help if I want to edit the other teams in my league.

I seriously hope we can edit ALL teams. I'm not feeling many of the team uniforms, colors, etc. that have been shown so far.

I just care about the gameplay. I've seen a million sports video games have some new and great thing (like reach tackling) that turns out either way over done or just way over hyped. I have my doubts about this reach tackling thing right now.

Most of us feel gameplay is #1, but reach tackling is gameplay. Since I haven't seen their version of football in a few years, I'm filled with doubts. But remembering how much I liked 2K5 and NBA 2K7, I can't help but be optimistic about what VC has done with this generation's consoles and football. Their tackling system was excellent in 2K5. I'm hoping it's advanced, and that reach tackling is a part of that.

I hate bringing up Madden in this forum, but... since I haven't been happy with any of their games the past few years, their news & hype only makes me think, "I'll believe it when I see it." VC's track record is much better IMO, so when I read stuff like this, I'm optimistic.

Nothing is "wow" yet. I want gameplay vids and impressions. As good as 2k5 was, it had serious gameplay issues, especially with running up the middle and the secondary was almost impossible to control. As pumped as I am and as much confidence I have in the 2k5 developers....I need to see these things fixed. Overall gameplay just has to be smoother.

I agree. I like the pocket formed around Montana in that screen, but I haven't said wow yet. I remember saying wow when I first saw NBA 2K7 in motion. I'm expecting the same here.

You kid yourself if you think madden will not be affected by APf2k8 sales...The casual gamers are up for grabs every year . These casuals account for 80% of madden sales...If 2k can do a good job of marketing the legends, a lot of the casual gamers will pass on madden...Most casual gamers play madden once or twice a week and rarely play it after 3-4 months...I know this because I have been around close to 30 people who buy madden based of the commercial. They dont care about screenshots, videos and or reviews...They buy madden 2-3 weeks after the release date and never even care to read any reviews...90% of these people have very little knowledge of 2k sports or even 2k5...Only a very small percentage of madden or APF buyers seek out games by visiting forums...Point am trying to make is that madden sales are not guaranteed as long as they still rely on thier casual fanbase. I still havent met anybody in real life, who had as much info as me , on an upcoming Football title...if 2k markets this game well, they will outsell madden on the xbox/xbox360. For an unlicenced game that will surely start a debate...

Doubtful. Madden will still get their normal sales, and the odds of this taking sales away from Madden are slim to none. EA only cares about the bottomline, and this won't affect theirs.

They would have said the same thing about EA's NBA Live a couple years ago and look at it now NBA 2K7 blows it away in quality and sales. Madden will get its sales this year..but like NFL 2K5 VC will also get sales from APF and word of mouth will spread and players will take notice of a real next gen football game. Knowing VC this is only the beginning....they ALWAYS raise the bar.... I bet next year they have like 500 legends and even tighter game play. Damn straight EA better take notice and get off their lazy ***.

Back to EA / Madden for a minute. 2K8 does have EA, Tirubon and Madden all crapping their pants in fear. I'm sure that EA is having a three year flashback. After all, there's a reason why EA purchased the NFL, NCAA and AFL licenses years ago. It was because they feared VC developing another superior football game compared to their old, outdated, past it's prime and obsolete piece of crap called Madden.

APF 2K8 > Madden next gen easily

This game won't outsell madden, we all know that, but if it bites into their market share as the old 2k football games did, then EA's purchase of the NFL license will be seen as a big waste of money.

This game wasn't even on my radar, but now with these features and REALLY THE PLAYERS, i am pumped. That is very cool you can play as payton or unitas etc.. I don't even care about the real teams anymore.

I doubt that. I think it's going to be more like NCAA create-a-team on current gen. You can pick a logo and change it to any color you want. Pretty cool tho.

I already answered this once but I`ll say it again.Your right it won't effect madden sales this year.But it may for the next couple of years once everyone sees what we already know.THAT MADDEN ISN"T NEXT GEN.I believe the nfl will not be so quick to hand ea the license next time around.This game will impact ea if it is what I think it is.Of course we haven't seen it in motion yet but 2k has always exceeded our expectations.

Please...Even if this game is the greatest football game ever it still isnt the NFL and thats what the large majority of football game consumers want. This game wont effect Madden's sales until 2k gets the NFL license back and thats unlikely to happen since EA is more than willing to pay the same or more than what they did before, the NFL loves exclusive deals and Take Two is having serious money problems.

The only thing that this game is likely to do is push Madden to innovate and add more features to the game quicker than they would have before.
