    Re: The Smashmouth Project

I really hope this project comes to fruition. I've been reading impressions on Madden, and it seems most are just craving for a realistic football game.

I sincerely hope you pull this off successfully, TheWatcher.

Wow! This is amazing that you can do all this yourself. Honestly, no matter what other people say, I think you have made great progress for a one man crew. I wouldn't even know where to begin! haha. I really hope this works out for you. Good luck with it. Hopefully, as I am sure it will, meet the satisfaction of everyone here, and the impatient people will think it was worth the wait. This might be the first game to create competition with EA sports besides Backbreaker in awhile. I wouldn't hold much hope for this to meet the expectations for such a complex project, but after seeing all your posts about Madden's presentation and what they need done to make it perfect, I am glad this is in the hands of a true perfectionist!

The only negative thing I got to say is that, this should be publicized more on OS, especially on Madden forum. I am sure many, many people over there would be thrilled to give you ideas about this, but like me, had no idea this thread existed until today, when I was just looking around at the different forums. I would ask Steve if you can post a thread on NCAA and Madden to tell people about your project.

Yep. From the site: "8/26/2010 - The Playable Game Prototype Version 1 is now 100% Complete! - The production team search begins."

The playable came out solid enough that I feel it's time to go into full production.

Does this mean you finally got the game playing without errors or that the community might be able to see a demo soon?

Good to hear. So can we start seeing some gameplay vids, or not yet?

                Re: The Smashmouth Project

                Hey guys,

Just as you'd expect with many commercial video game releases, there will be gameplay video for public consumption sometime within the quarter before release. Once the team is in place, you'll see bits and pieces along the way and you'll be able to vote and give input on specific ideas/concepts. There are several important things I'm leaving open just so gamers can decide on how it should work, so that should be fun.

Been following this thread for a while and am seriously wishing you the best of luck with this game!

One thing I wanted to ask was, are you really pushing for realism in terms of the way the AI players behave, play, etc?
Or is it going to be a game that is based on amazing graphics and just fun, arcade gameplay?

Like if you go through the Madden/NCAA forums there are countless threads of how, for example, the AI doesn't play certain zone coverage plays properly, or how the blocking assignments/intelligence isn't correct.

In terms of AI, the goal is to create a system of behaviors that model after what a pro player does in specific situations. I have a ton of tape at my disposal for reference and I'm working very hard to come up with a good system... the outcome of which will be determined by how well the programmer(s) I bring in can nail it down. I feel very confident that we'll get something solid.

Not to worry, it won't be an arcade over-the-top blitz kind of game.

Read through these pages just now for the first time. Im not exactly sure how this game works, or will control....but I wish you the best, and cant wait to see some gameplay videos just to see the idea you have going here.

This could be a fun game, which is what Id love in a football game. A fun game like tecmo super bowl with true up to date graphics would be amazing alone....but if you find a way to use real footage captures and some how make tackles and hits work......wow.

Not sure where you are with the animations per se, but are you at a point where you can show just the offense on a single run or pass play?

As he stated before, about 1 year away from release, meaning footage probably 2 months before - at a guess.
