Re: The Smashmouth Project
Since the public game is still about a year away, I won't be talking about anything else game-specific until the entire team is assembled and we're all ready to blog on our specific areas. I anticipate that to happen during the first quarter of 2011.
I want to thank each and every one of you who've contributed useful feedback of all kinds in such a mature and helpful fashion during the technical prototype phase. Those posts, PM's and emails were helpful in more ways than you may imagine, and I certainly look forward to more of that same useful, maturely presented feedback in the near future.
To touch further on the subject of progress with the team assembly; I've currently got some talented individuals working on a per-action basis and I'm still narrowing down who I want on a long-term contract basis for the main dev slots, though I do have one designer already approved for one of the main slots and I plan to sign him shortly after I've prepared his task set. I'm very excited about him; he has a strong track record, he loves football, he's very dedicated, he has the talent, and I'm confident beyond a shadow of a doubt that he will do a great job.
Since having the right team in place is of course the most important part, it--like everything else--takes time and a lot of consideration. It's wise to approach this crucial make-or-break element with care, and that's exactly my approach.
Finally, I'll close by stating clearly; The project is alive, always was alive, was never close to being dead, and won't be dying as long as I'm still breathing.Comment

Re: The Smashmouth Project
I can't speak for TheWatcher, but I'd guess not anytime soon. Remember, this is an extremely small developement crew, which personally, I think is a good thing---means much more dedication and time to the project, with no deadline to meet (ala EA).
I was just happy to hear Watcher check in and let us know the project's still alive and kicking.Comment

Re: The Smashmouth Project
I'd like to publicly welcome in Mr. Dominic Pons of Xponential Design to the Smashmouth Pro Football Development Team!
Dominic accepted a deal last Wednesday to work with transition design for broadcast presentation in Smashmouth Pro Football. He's also eager to work on some other graphical responsibilities, and he'll certainly be a part of that as well.
His experience includes similar work with CBC Television, Yoplait, GMAC, and countless other successful companies internationally. He has worked on a per-action basis for the project in the past, and I gotta tell you that this guy is a great talent. I was impressed enough with his work to offer him a spot and I'm happy I did. He's a nice guy to work with, and a true pro who understands the indie game process. He's going to be a great asset to the project.
There are other deals with other designers on the table, and I'll be sure to let you know the status as new information becomes available.
Thanks!Comment
