Even if this game comes out I'm still playing Madden over this... Because 2K used to be a great company but knowing them now, it will probably have some form of VC or server problems ruining it.

What exactly do you play football games for? The football? Or the online?Comment

Re: NFL 2k COMEBACK? License not exclusive?
I take it you don't know what he's talking about? I've never played an online game in NBA2k but my game was inaccessible due to server problems and there were some really poor decisions involving the required use of virtual currency in the franchise mode. It remains to be seen what they've learned from this year.
Either way, the position is as silly as suggesting the inverse, that a 2k outing would automatically be better than Madden just for existing. The direction 2k has taken with virtual currency is certainly a cause for concern and in a 'budget' title like many seem to be hoping for it would certainly be reasonable to expect its inclusion - but I don't see the point of staking out a favorites/swearing off the other without the other title even existing.Comment

Re: NFL 2k COMEBACK? License not exclusive?
I think one of the biggest questions is, how far behind will an alternative nfl game be? Competition is great but if a company like 2k puts out a game not up to par, then IMO that's a failure. I haven't bought madden in years but I know they do some things right as a football game. If the game makes big strides in gameplay this year it could be a situation where madden is too far ahead of their competition like nba 2k vs live. I know APF has a very solid football engine but madden has things like real time physics and from the trailer, very good graphics. This is a huge year for madden and I think the team knows that.Comment

I wouldn't write off or proclaim either game the better at this point. That said, I have a lingering hatred for how EA has handled exclusivity. I would pre order the 2k game and buy a used copy of madden a while later if it turned out to be the better game. I used to buy consoles just for football games until exclusivity and bad madden games changed that. It'll take a while to get over the resentment I have for EA at the moment but I don't pray for Madden' s demise either.Comment

Re: NFL 2k COMEBACK? License not exclusive?
Alas, we have some hope. Maybe there have been rumors or speculations in the past, about 2k coming out with a game, but ( for me ) having any hope concerning another football game other than Madden was simply unreasonable. There is no market for unlicensed games, and companies know that. Now, at least, it's possible for an NFL video game not named Madden to actually exist. This question is will it ever happen, and when will it happen ?
I believe, almost to the point of being certain, that EA's license is not exclusive anymore. If it was, we would've heard about exclusivity by now. Even though EA didn't put the news out, it always got out. FIFA just inked an exclusive deal, and it's not a secret.
Being that ( most likely ) EA doesn't have an exclusive license anymore, and the popularity of the NFL, there's is no doubt it my mind that some other company will try to put out a football game. The question simply is when.
Many people assume that there's no way 2k could come out with a game ( by August ) because the license just expired last February; that's obviously not a enough time to develop a football game. Here's the problem with that line of thinking: it's speculation. Yes, just like everything else posted in threads like this one, the assumption that 2k ( if they're intending on making a football game ) waited until February to ink a deal with the NFL for the license to make football games.
EA, around February, said the had an agreement with the NFL for a number of years. Now we know their deal expired after the Super Bowl. We also know that
EA has been developing Madden 15 probably since last September. Do we really think that EA was developing Madden 15 without a licensing deal in place ? Of course not, so if EA can ink a deal before the exclusive one expired, so they could start working on Madden 15, why couldn't 2k do the same ? Whose to say that 2k didn't get a license ( a non-exclusive one ) a couple of years ago so they could start working on 2k15 ?
Remember, in 2010 before the EA extended the deal for one year, 2k did approach the NFL regarding a licensing deal for the 2013 season. That shows an interest in getting back into the football gaming business, and that they were planning ahead get a game out ASAP. Why would that change just because EA extended the exclusive license for only one year ?Comment

Agreed. If anything, Madden has to much physics, because it causes shoestring tackles and players who flop like ragdolls.INACTIVEComment

part of me thinks the NFL wouldn't even bother and another thought I had was that 2K won't want to risk the $ producing NFL football with so many loyal madden fans, they may not think it's financially wise.
I haven't read through the entire thread, but where does this actually stand? Is there ANY news about 2k development at all? Is this all entirely speculation?Liquor in the front, poker in the rear.Comment
