last I checked we have missed out on the ability to trade players and free agency this offseason. It is a mess this whole thing is pathetic had teams been able to trade and pick up free agents the draft probably would go alot quicker for most teams does that stuff now get tacked on to the end of the off season or what is the deal I mean will there be enough time for free agency when this thing is finally over assuming it will be?

This opinion article by former NFL player Nate Jackson certainly puts an interesting light on the situation we have now.Comment

Re: Official CBA Thread
NFL submitted their side today for the permanent stay, arguing that there is no irreparable harm to the league year until a number of months from now, citing some players who routinely skip offseason workouts and the public comments from a number of players who have said 'we should have a lockout every year'.Comment

Re: Official CBA Thread
I hope they came with more than that. I'm sure the rookies don't think there should be a lock out every year, or the QBs waiting in limbo to find out what their new team will be and how fast they'll be able to learn the playbook. The teams with new coaches probably don't feel that way either. It won't take a genius to see how silly those statements are.You looking at the Chair MAN!

Re: Official CBA Thread
All from Twitter:
Eighth circuit grants the NFL's request for an expedited hearing. Will hear the appeal starting June 3 in St. Louis.
NFL's appeal brief due on May 9. Players' reply due on May 20. NFL's reply to that due May 26
The June 3 appeal hearing, in St. Louis before Judges Bye, Colloton, and Benton, will include 30-minute oral arguments from both sides.
The ruling on a stay pending appeal is still outstanding, even if it were denied the lockout could return yet again if the NFL wins the 6/3 hearing.
Typically something filed now wouldn't get a hearing until Oct-Dec... and would have 40 days for opening brief. Hearing is in a month and NFL has 6 days, every element of the proceedings should be expedited, including the judgement.
One of the reasons against granting an emergency stay pending appeal by the lone dissenting judge was due to the length of the appeals process... that's no longer an issue, could make the process less irreparable and more reason to grant the stay pending the 6/3 appeal.Last edited by mestevo; 05-03-2011, 09:25 PM.Comment

Re: Official CBA Thread
From Albert Breer on Twitter:
Sources: NFLPA is bracing for the NFL to be granted a full stay of the injunction to lift NFL lockout until the appeal is heard. Have heard the rumblings all morning. What full stay would mean: The lockout is on until 8th circuit hears case on June 3, rules thereafter. Full stay would, in essence, eliminate offseason programs for '11. Generally those wrap in mid-June, which is earliest we could get ruling.Comment

I can see myself spending $0 on the NFL this season. No games, no jerseys, no NFL RedZone, no supporting the various auctions. The only NFL dollars I may spend this year are on Madden and that's not 100%.

Re: Official CBA Thread
Irreparable harm must not be a standard.
Free agents and some other vets are in limbo. Some players may not keep their jobs after this is all over. Some players are not being paid roster bonuses they were due.
If they have a season this year, quality of play may not be the same and there may be more injuries.
Are the owners still demanding 18 games or was that merely a bargaining chip to get concessions? It doesn't appear there is as much talk about that any more.Comment

I always get burned. You should see my jersey graveyard of skins authentic jerseys. Champ Bailey, Jason Campbell, Lauvernes Coles, Lavar Arrington, Devin Thomas. I'll never learn. Only one still current is Laron Landry.

Once things are said and done, things like roster bonuses and workout bonuses will probably be included in the new settlement. If everything goes the NFL's way an abbreviated offseason schedule will probably be set and agreed upon by the reconstituted NFLPA and the NFL. If they didn't, then a lengthy line will form to file grievances, and it's in everyone's best interest to get in front of that.
The only irreparable harm IMO revolves around the maturation of rookies.Comment
