A few years ago Martz was on that coaches roundtable show that NFL-N had for a season. I believe he was also a guest analyst on Total Access for a week sometime during this preseason. Other than that I don't know what he's up to. I think he's pretty much retired and after what happened with him in Chicago I doubt he'll get another sniff on the NFL level.

He came from Texas A&M with Tannehill, but the early returns weren't great so they made a change.
I mainly remember him from his time as HC of the Packers before McCarthy. He always seemed like a Mike Martz type, more an OC then head coach.
What's Martz doing these days, anyway?Comment

Is there even a real high end QB available in the draft this year? I've heard a couple names but they seem like 2nd rounders at best.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: NFL Off Topic
It'd be so awesome if teams actually tried to build their team up before just throwing a rookie out there.

Re: NFL Off Topic
I've seen some mock drafts suggesting the Lions would draft Bosa or the guy from Mississippi or Mississippi State, to go with Ansah.
It's a similar situation with the 49ers. A lot of fans want Goff or maybe Cook.
But the team needs a lot, like help on the OL, WRs, ILBs, OLBs, DL, CB.
They think Goff will be the next Aaron Rodgers just because he's also from Cal. The team screwed up not drafting Brady or Rodgers, who both grew up as 49ers fans.
It's yet to be determined if Goff will be an elite prospect. In fact, look at someone like Luck, who was an elite prospect but can't carry the Colts by himself, other than beating up on AFC South teams.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
I think there's been poor handling & neglect of the QB position across the board. Especially for teams that have young QBs.
Examples: Russell Wilson & Andrew Luck having coaches that ignore their offensive line needs to the point of criminality, Kaepernick and other QB's like him being forced to play in ways that don't fit their abilities, RG3 and his original coaching staff putting him in danger, then hanging him out to dry.jWILLComment

If there was a true QB prospect at the top, they have to take him. Believe me as a Bills fan. We haven't made the playoffs in almost two decades, but we've only gotten 2 picks in the top 7 in that time (one being Dareus, the other being OL Mike Williams). The price of being below average-bad but not terrible.
The problem is, no QB jumps off the board as a guy you absolutely have to take. Yes, as the draft comes closer, QB's will rise just out of sheer necessity but not because they actually should be drafted highly. Timing is everything in regards to drafting a franchise QB.
This year is a best player available draft.
Makes spotting and developing mid round QB's so important. In other sports leagues, leaning on your farm system to replenish your team instead of splashy FA signings and trades is the way to go to ensure sustained success (and it's a never ending cycle unless you want only a 3 or so year window). Since the NFL has no true minor league system, it's a tougher task because you can't stash a guy and wait unless you want him on your roster. Not to mention that everything seems magnified tenfold in football compared to other sports (probably due to shorter season and higher stakes), and it's imperative that you don't strike out on drafts but find value where you can.
And stockpiling picks like Belichick has done for NE is a hidden trick. He extracts picks from desperate teams knowing that the draft is a crapshoot, so give yourself as many chances to be in the money as possible. Genius on the field, genius off of it.
So maybe the best idea is trade out of that high draft slot and get as many picks as you can.Last edited by slickdtc; 11-05-2015, 05:26 PM.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers

I think it's either him or Connor Cook from Michigan state.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
He can make some incredible throws, but he's not consistent. He also is playing behind a pretty poor offensive line that has gotten him killed a lot. But he'll force some throws. And he definitely fits the prototypical NFL QB mold, physically.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
I think with Cook, he's the kind of QB that would be best suited in a more traditional pro style offense with a solid O-line in front of him. I can't see him being that guy who runs all over the place and does the read option. If San Fran wants to go back to a more traditional offense I can see Cook being a good fit.
I haven't seen enough of Hackenberg to really make a solid judgment but from what little i've seen he doesn't really scream "great NFL QB".Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club
