Re: NFL Off Topic
that foles season i still can't believe it. I really only think 2 personnel mistakes were letting Maclin go but he wanted go to KC and obviously the Murray one. also I'm not x and o guy but i feels like they were running a different offense than the 1st couple years. He should get another shot.
Part of being a good coach is knowing When you have too much on your plate, and when to delegate to your assistants. Feel that Chip has a know-it all attitude regarding his scheme, and the type of players he wants that he won't settle for not having full control. Feel that if he doesn't change his ways he's going to rub the players for the next organization he Coaches for the wrong way, because in this League he's dealing with grown men.Last edited by Feared; 12-30-2015, 10:14 PM.Minnesota Vikings

Re: NFL Off Topic
Thing I heard on a podcast is that Kelly's offense isn't that hard to figure out schematically. The playbook appears to be limited numbers-wise so it's more based on execution.
But at Oregon, he often had a talent advantage, so one thing he did well back there was talent evaluation.
Of course he shipped out a lot of stars and made FA signings this year which didn't work out at all.
But supposedly Murray told Lurie the team isn't listening to Kelly so that was that.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
My point is that he made Nick Foles and Mark Sanchez work. I feel confident in saying that there aren't many coaches in the league who could have done that. Nick Foles post-Chip Kelly and Mark Sanchez pre-Chip Kelly kind of indicate this.
As long as he doesn't have control over personnel, he's an excellent hire.
SpoilerI just wanted to use that gif because I found it awesome.Originally posted by Gibson88Anyone who asked for an ETA is not being Master of their Domain.

No wonder his system is being figured out so quickly in the NFL.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: NFL Off Topic
Just read a few articles about Saban's tenure in Miami.
Boy...didn't realize what a jerk he was.
I don't get how people can be so mean; one story said that Saban ordered all of the staffers (equipment guy as an example) not to speak to him unless spoken to. The anecdote about Zach Thomas in a scrimmage really sums it up.
Good heavens.
Makes me wonder if there is a lot of parallels with Chip.Originally posted by Gibson88Anyone who asked for an ETA is not being Master of their Domain.

Re: NFL Off Topic
They may be figured out or at least defended better but the other part of Chip Kelly's system is that always playing fast means more snaps also for the defense.
Greg Cossell estimated that under Kelly, the defense has probably played 4 more games worth of snaps than other teams.
But Kelly was able to get away with it at Oregon because he would literally swap in a different front 7 every other series. You can't accumulate that kind of depth in the NFL.
Supposedly the fast play does force defense to play basic packages more, instead of being able to sub in some blitz packages.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
if we aren't counting Jimmy Johnson, Tom Coughlin, Bobby Ross, Harbaugh or even some of the "lesser" ones like Dennis Green. Then if you want more "old" you have Coryell, Walsh and Vermeil.Last edited by ubernoob; 12-31-2015, 07:44 PM.badComment

Re: NFL Off Topic
I had no idea. I thought the only college coaches that made attempts were Saban, Kelly, that one dude who used to coach the Falcons, and Carroll.jWILLComment

John Mckay could've been a very good pro coach too. He was actually starting to find a foothold of success when he left Tampa due to Culverhouse being a cheapo when it came to personnel.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club
