This is what I don't understand. Just add 7:30 to the clock and just....play football. No sudden death nonsense. No arbitrary gimmick bull****. No dumb rules to explain or keep track of. Nothing. Just football. And whoever is in the lead after that time wins. And if it doesn't end in 7:30, oh my goodness the horror....play another 7:30. Or hell, just do 15 off the bat.

Is that so much to ask? Apparently.

No though, we need sports constantly coming up with gimmicks.

        That's my TE ya'll

The NFL is preparing a training video that will show players which types of celebrations are allowed, and which ones will draw 15-yard penalties. Packers tight end Martellus Bennett does not plan to watch.

In a series of messages on Twitter, Bennett took aim at the NFL and executive V.P. of football operations Troy Vincent, who announced that the league is preparing the video.

“An educational training video on celebrations? Spend that money on something else like a video on investments or something that will help the players,” Bennett wrote. “Who gives a s–t what guys do when they celebrate. Do something impactful. Y’all wasting guys time with this s-t. Let the players express their individuality and creativity. Y’all gonna make an educational video on how we should talk next?”

Bennett said the NFL wants players to be robots, not individuals.

“An educational video on appropriate celebrations. Not signing up for that class,” Bennett wrote. “See the NFL promotes the logos not the players. The NBA promotes its players. Big difference. NFL knows players wont be around long so they invest all resources into the building team logos for longevity. That’s the constant variable. Except for the QB position. That’s why they’re the Face of the franchise. NBA on the other hand they can invest in the players being the face of the entire league. Look at the advertising of both.”

When that video is shown at Packers training camp, Bennett says, he’ll excuse himself to use the restroom.

“I’m going to be taking a 15 minute dump whenever we’re supposed to watch this ‘educational’ video,” Bennett wrote. “I can feel my stomach bubbling now.”
Lol @ making a video teaching players how to talk.

Seems like most other sports throw half a quarter's worth of time on the clock in OT.

Man, I can only hope for players realizing this **** and finally stop being brainwashed by the bs football rhetoric that's spewed to anyone that's ever played.

Absolutely not. The college OT rules are horrible and frankly, the NFL is not college football.

The NFL has dropped the ball consistently with health issues AND pump their players up with so many painkillers and illicit drugs but are so heavy handed when players NEED something like medical marijuana or the whole celebrating on the field and letting some personality shine. The Shield only cares about the almighty dollar with no thought to the players. I'm sure that's the case with the other leagues but they at least try to promote the players. The NHL is doing a rather good job these days of promoting all the young superstars out there and the NBA has ALWAYS been the trailblazer in promoting their best stars. (though I think they're on the opposite spectrum of the NFL. They exploit their stars often to the detriment of the team concept)

I think MLB does it best though, it's more a team oriented promotion but within that they do shine a spotlight on the younger superstars coming up the chain. In fact, MLB has an embarrassment of riches right now with a crop of young superstars all near or at their prime at the same time. This is something the game hasn't seen since the 1950s and '60s and they're doing a magnificent job of promoting those guys while still promoting the team concept.

                      Competition Committee proposals:

                      1. Taking out leaping on XP/FG

                      2. Touchbacks going to the 25 to be extended for an additional year.

                      3. Permanent rule for automatic disqualification for two unsportsmanlike fouls.

                      4. Defenseless player protection on receivers during their route.

                      5. Centralized replay with input from the referee. (Goodell has already announced this will be the case in 2017)

                      Other proposals include:
                      - a 10 minute overtime
                      - any official decision to be challengable (BUF, SEA)
                      - increase number of challenges (WAS)

Just as long as they play and celebrate the "right way" and "know their roles".

                        4. Defenseless player protection on receivers during their route.
                        To clarify on this:

The Competition Committee will recommend the inclusion of receivers running pass routes into the definition of defenseless players. This would prevent those receivers from being struck in the head or neck area, even if they are within the five-yard zone where they legally can be chucked at least one time.

Nothing was said about protections for the defenders who are now prohibited from striking receivers in the head while running routes. Last year, a controversial interference non-call from a Falcons-Seahawks regular-season game based on a hit from cornerback Richard Sherman was preceded by a strong blow to the head at the line of scrimmage on Sherman by receiver Julio Jones.

I'm a little surprised this hasn't been mentioned but Samantha Ponder is going to be the successor to Chris Berman on NFL Sunday Countdown. This is HUGE for womens sports broadcasting. I wish her all the luck in the world.

I might actually watch Countdown now. I've been a big fan of hers from her work on College Gameday and sideline reporting.

They've had female hosts for their daily NFL show for awhile now.

NFL Network also has featured women on their daily shows too.

Do the Sunday shows draw that much? In any event, the hosts just introduce the "experts" who do most of the talking, which are all men -- mostly former players and coaches.

You'd figure Trey Wingo would've gotten that spot...he's one of the few NFL folks on ESPN I actually find enjoyable.

Plus...his trolling on Ed Werder is hilarious.
