Re: NFL Off Topic
Sign of the times, I suppose.
It's been pretty clear for some time now that just about any team in any sport can be moved at any time if the finances no longer make sense (for the ownership). The fact that many in the Bay area are just kind of shrugging their shoulders and adopting a "whaddyagonnado?" attitude tells you where modern sports are. No reason to really invest in a team in this day and age.
The Bay area went from having teams in San Francisco and Oakland to having teams in neither city.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
The education argument is tired, as if this was an either/or proposition. Stadium will drive collection of more of the same tax that funds the public portion, in addition to the other things the tax supports.

I still wish they could've stayed in Cali.
Saying "Las Vegas Raiders" will never flow right to me like Oakland/LA Raiders does.

Re: NFL Off Topic
"Vegas Raiders" sounds okay, actually. Just because they have that long-A sound in both parts. Look, I'm a Bay Area native and want as many teams to stay here as must as the next guy, so you can't say I'm not sour about the situation. I'm just saying that doesn't sound too bad. Saying "Las" in front sounds dumb, though.
That being said, I'm pretty stupidly uninformed on the business aspect of things, so I have two questions that I legitimately do not know the answer to:
1) Hearing on the radio here, it sounds like the Raiders aren't staying at the Coliseum through the 2019 season. I'm suspecting that fan turnout may not be as big because of the lack of loyalty around that turn, but is there any other reason as to why they'd move out? Is it money they don't want to spend?
2) On that same token, the Rams moved out of St. Louis immediately despite not having a new stadium (unless they demolished their old one) and the Chargers are on their way over as well. The Chargers are still pretty close to SD so I'm not expecting as much animosity there, but how are St. Louis locals feeling about the Rams' departure? I know they weren't there as well, but it doesn't seem people were as bitter about that move. Is it because their move was more logical (larger market, proper location for division alignment lol) or is it just because the team isn't as good? Is it because of how the money was put up for one team versus the other? I just don't know what makes this move for the Raiders significantly more outrageous.
(as for the second one, I'm sure it has to do with where the money is coming from and the change in market [plus the fact that it's a tourism market], but I'm not sure so that's why I'm asking)Last edited by Blzer; 03-28-2017, 10:12 AM.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
For 1: the team has 2 1-year options at the Coliseum, but nothing for 2019. They've started they'd prefer to stay for 2019 'if the fans will have them' in an effort to spend the next 3 seasons bringing a trophy to the Bay area (that'd be an awkward parade).
If no solution, then Sam Boyd (needs a lot of work), Qualcomm and other solutions will be pursued. Sam Boyd might be ready as early as 2018, but conflicting reports about overall suitability with issues like bleachers too close to the field taking a lot of work to resolve.
Some politicians in Oakland are now trying to terminate the leases to make them move now.
2. From everything I've seen St. Louis is pretty bitter, seemed they had a viable plan or two but Kroenke was determined. Not as familiar with all that drama though.
Rams feel like more of a clean break compared to what happened with the California teams to me due to distance. Easier to move a team back to that market, and then San Diego.

Also need to be done:
- Fill in the rest of the bowl (currently U-shaped) to push it closer to 60k seats. Stadium tops out at about 45k
- Pave the parking lot
- Some security stuff, it'd be the only NFL venue without an outside wall on the property
Field is new, that's probably not a concern. Some talk that bleachers are too close to the field so not sure how that can be remedied.
A lot of work to be done, but it's absolutely a contingency site, Raiders have already been discussing some changes w/ the neighboring HOAs.
There's even some talk that since Vegas is 24/7, including construction, that this stuff could maybe be done in 4 months. Otherwise it's expected to be a year of work. The site is massive, and has one of the largest parks in the valley next to it. Would be a fun time on game day.
I'd be surprised if the Raiders had Oiler-style crowds.Comment
