Revis Island becomes a non factor when you have more than 2-4 other Receiving Threats on the field though and even with him, you're only sacrificing one guy for him really and most teams will live with that.

For guys like Von Miller, Jared Allen and now JJ Watt(and you could probably list more), you have to sacrifice up to 2 guys on them if you want to be able to move the ball up the field.

Even before the emergence of Watt and Miller, I'm pretty sure I would have taken Patrick Willis over Revis if you gave me a choice of any defensive player.

And you'd be wrong. I'm not even sure he's the best ILB on his team.

Revis playing one on one allows to send all sorts of extra guys on blitzes or give safety help to other guys if needed. It's not just "Revis is on a guy so just throw away from him". He has more of an impact that that.

For rick and pack, I guess it comes down to how we value the CB position.

I may be biased after years of watching misery at CB for Dallas, but I do think a healthy Revis is the best defensive player in football. It does, however, remain to be seen how he is post injury.

I think Revis is one of the few corners in the league where you don't have to get pressure for him to be successful and doesn't need more coverage to be rolled his way, that's invaluable to me in this age of passing.

I'd probably take one of the better pass rushers before I'd take Revis if I was starting a team.

Completely agree. They just influence more than a corner.

Revis is a pretty damn good corner. If you don't believe in the value of cornerbacks then you clearly have not watched a Detroit Lions game. As a Bill's fan, I'd like to see Revis leave New York and the AFC East. He gets away with far too much even if he does struggle against Steve Johnson.

Revis will get some damn good money, but there is no way he is getting Mario Williams money, which I believe Herm Edwards was speculating. The biggest issue I have with Revis is his ego. If you sign a contract you best be damned well prepared to fulfill it to its conclusion and Revis has proven he will not.

It's not an issue of not valuing the CB position. Trust me, as an Oakland fan these past couple of years I know what a difference even decent CB play makes and horrible CB play makes.

Just think that in today's NFL with ticky tack PI and defensive holding calls I'd much rather have a great pass rusher to compliment average CBs than a great CB to compliment average pass rushers.

Like I said, you can argue that he was the best... it's not a horrible argument. But to act like he was hands down the best, and it's a fact that he was robbed of the DPOY award is ridiculous. Nobody's selling him short. When healthy he's one of the best defenders in the league... but just bc he has a catchy phrase like "Revis Island" doesn't make the reality change. He's one of the best defenders. And considering the position he plays, his overall value on a team drops even more.

Hester actually was the best returner a few years ago... but he didn't deserve the money he was asking for either. Revis has gotten what, two raises recently already. He wants to get paid like he plays a different position. He doesn't. And he may be the best corner in the league right now but he's still not a shut down corner like it used to be defined. We've seen him get beat plenty. It's not his fault, the rules are stacked against him these days, but their still the rules. And if I'm paying I've gotta consider those rules when writing that check.

I'm not the only one that thinks he was robbed, there were a lot of others around the league and that cover it that thought so as well. Woodson had a really good year that year. Revis had a historic year. I guess we'll agree to disagree though.

I agree with your overall point though that CB is less important overall. That's why as good as he is, I'd trade him to help jump start the rebuilding effort.
