    Re: NFL Off Topic

Once Eli is announced starter, all this bull**** about McAdoo and Reese being fired will be for nothing.

This franchise is trash. Why would a top GM of HC candidate want to coach the Giants? This ****** Mara just put it out there bright as day:

You can suck all you like and we'll keep you. But the second you touch Eli Manning, you will be instantly fired.

So a team who will be in position to take a top qb and officially reboot, is being handcuffed by the trash Eli Manning and his way too sentimental owner?

The Giants are *** man. Don't pay these guys no attention. The Jets are the football team of this city.

Yeesh, talk about a pick your poison situation. Well, at least the Jets are trending upwards but nothing is ever carved in stone knowing that franchise's history.

There is only one legit great HC in football right now. Pete Carroll can be great most of the time, but he occasionally has blind spots as a playcaller, as a game manager, and as the guy in charge of game-to-game personnel decisions. Andy Reid can gameplan with the best, but mismanages about three to five games every year. Mike McCarthy is good, but I feel like most of his flaws (playcalling) have been covered up by the greatness of ARod.

But after that, the coaching talent drops the **** off. Like, it's pretty much a cliff. You have a lot of coaches that are successful right now, but are unproven or falter on big stages, like postseason play or primetime games, for example. And then you have a large amount of coaches getting by off reputation alone when they have no business running any coaching aspect of a game. Hue Jackson keeps being referred to as this great coach because he managed to be astoundingly average in Oakland a few years ago. Guess that reputation gave him carte blanch to run Cleveland into the dirt for a few seasons. Chuck Pagano had cancer that one time and beat it, so there's a feel good story, right? Ignore the fact that the best the team has ever been during his reign has been while Bruce Arians was calling the plays while Pagano was resting up. Let's let him waste the talent of a once in a generation QB by being mediocre for a bit.

Then you got the personnel decisions. So many teams this year are signing bad QB's and career journeymen just to get by chasing mediocrity. The AFC East is probably the most baffling in that regard. Ryan Tannehill goes down for the season, and they sign... Jay Cutler?? When they could've just signed Kaepernick? Then Sean McDermott benched Tyrod Taylor IN THE MIDDLE OF A POTENTIAL PLAYOFF SEASON. I bet he's happy now that Tyrod is out with an injury.

And to add the icing on the ****e cake, McAdoofus destroys the Giants organization even further by benching the only QB to beat Tom Brady in a Super Bowl, destroying a streak of starts and losing the locker room even more, for no good reason at all.

It's baffling. At least the NBA has a talent dilution problem to blame for most of the league being largely unwatchable. What's the NFL's excuse? More than half of the league's talent is being wasted by garbage coaches and even worse GM's.
To me..a good head coach can get the most out of his players (maximize their abilities) and put them in the best position to succeed.

I wouldn't even put Pete Carroll's name on the list. He's a good player's coach but that's about it. A lot of the head coaches are simply glorified coordinators.

Injuries to talented players has hurt the game and exposed how bad a lot of the coaches are. A star player can make a head coach look like a genius.

That being said, I just think the NFL is in a transitional period whereas there are some good young QBs coming up that will be able to bring some excitement back to the league.

I think everyone was just too stunned with what they saw, I know I was. I've never seen Gronk lash out like that. He's not exactly a repeat offender.

Being held is no excuse for that, but he just had a moment where he boiled up and enough was enough, I guess. If he caught the ball instead of getting intercepted, maybe he wouldn't have done it. If the flag was thrown, maybe he wouldn't have done it. Not sure. I certainly didn't know how to react with that though.

They'll have their response in a couple of weeks, I guess.

If benching Eli wasn't a top down organizational decision then why would Mara let two dudes he was going to fire anyway break the streak? If you're going to reinstall him as the starter, you just took all that bad PR for no reason.

I know this probably isn't true but so many of these teams seem to be completely winging it week to week. It's mind numbing.

Nah, I think most teams have a plan. They just completely abandon it when trouble arises.

And I'll say nah to this. Every organization has incompetent people; just the way **** is. The NFL and its teams aren't above that.

True, but the good/great franchises in sports also keep these people as far away from making the “important decisions” as possible.

This goes for any team in any sport.

It's because Mara is a bad owner. If Eli were still benched I might think otherwise.

But the fact that they are starting Eli Manning after this past week, tells the entire story.

Not sure why a well respected bright future GM and HC would be interested in the Giants job over any other potential spot.

This org is a cluster from top to bottom.

Also calling it now, Mike Smith will be the next coach of the New York Giants. And I'll jump off a cliff when it's announced.
