Good question, but it's not a move that increases your chances of winning games. It increases the Jets' chances of getting a much better 3rd round pick via Tampa Bay and it makes Bridgewater to Tampa Bay more likely.

Great news for the long-term; not so great news for Schiano who presumably has no incentive to see the new coaching staff in Tampa Bay succeed with Bridgewater.

Per Chase Stuart, here are some comparables for Mike Glennon. Note: they're not good.

It’s official in Tampa Bay: Josh Freeman is out and Mike Glennon is in at starting quarterback. But what are the odds that Glennon actually plays well this year? I’m not very optimistic for a couple of reasons. Vincent Jackson is a star, but he’s dealing with injuries to his ribs. On 30 passes aimed

Bottom line: it's a little early to bail on the starting QB after Week 3 unless you really wanted to go 3-13 and get a top 3 pick. Had the Bucs made this move in Week 9 or 10, then it's not an issue.
Hey, that list ain't so bad. There are some QB's who had success on there.

Not using the best player in the league for what he does best? Reminds me of when the Eagles asked Nnamdi to try and play zone.. Look what happend.

For a start, treating grown men like college kids isn't going to help you. In general, I don't see Schiano having any long term future in the NFL, never have done.
I don't think Freeman was that good before though. He's shown flashes but so have many QBs. Carr, Leftwitch, Cassell, Kolb, I can go on for days. He's never gotten over the hump and now seems to be regressing.

I like Freeman for whatever reason, would be interesting to see him with a good QB coach like Reid.

Good examples. Those guys can win games, but you don't want them as your starter. I think Freeman is certainly capable... As a solid backup. I'm not sold on him either, but if you have no other option, I guess he's worth a shot. I think that's TB's mentality too. They figure Freeman has had enough time to be able to put together some consistent play and he hasn't. That's why the change of scenery could really either build him up or bury him. All new players, philosophies, different drive to work. Who knows.

Someone will pick him up, like a Vikings or Jaguars.

Or any of the hundreds of players that are better at their position than Freeman is at QB?

It's funny, because earlier this year I got slammed for defending Freeman. Now I get told that I hate him. People can't just make up their minds.

The only thing I will say in semi-defense of him right now is that Tampa's playcalling is downright terrible. Not just the playcalls, but the design of the plays they use.

I don't have as much of a problem with the zone thing as much as the fact that we traded for him and are now pissing him off. But the defense is playing extremely well regardless if it's man or zone, and the rest of our corners are not good enough to play man.

                      It's even more than that.

There's a play against the Pats that sticks out in my head. Bucs line up in a bunch with 3 WR off to the left. Mike Williams is on the inside, off the line of scrimmage. WR on the LoS has press coverage. Outside receiver does not, as well as Williams.

Wright is the only WR with press coverage on him. As soon as the ball is snapped, Wright takes off down the LoS (from the middle of the bunch) while Williams and the other WRs run verts straight into coverage.

That is piss poor play design, especially by NFL standards.

I found the play I was talking about pictures. The old Bucs Operations Assistant and Coordinator has them up on his Twitter.

It may or may not be a bad play design, but what you described is bad defensive recognition. It can't be a bad play "design" because the defense is playing press on that guy and not the other two... that sounds like the D just guessed right. Why wouldn't the QB recognize that and audible out or switch one to a hot route?

It's a pretty good article, except the opposite is true in regards to dropped INTs vs. dropped catches. Outside of Jackson and Williams, nobody on the team can catch even a simple dump off, and even Jackson and Williams struggled to catch anything thrown their way in week 2.
