Are we as NFL fans ready to admit Peyton Manning has no business being ranked #2 when it comes to NFL quarterbacks? Top 5 for sure. Shouldn't be sniffing anything over the 4 spot in my opinion.

Based on one bad game? Brees and Rodgers have had them this year too, so has Brady btw.

Based on Manning continuing to throw up on the front of his jersey when the lights get the brightest.

Why is it so hard for people to admit Manning is overrated?

Well I don't think anyone is ignoring that he hasn't done the best in big games, it was practically all anyone talked about before he finally got the ring. That being said it'd be hard for be too begrudge anyone for thinking he's still up there be it 1,2,3,or 4.

Okay, so you want to go there. I understand you as a Raiders fan taking what happens between weeks 1-17 as a factor in the equation. But it all comes down to what you do when all eyes are on you. Manning fails time and time again.

Do you really want the robot that is Peyton Manning as you QB in the Playoffs? I don't.

Yeah, I think most people would want the best QB in the NFL having a top 10 QBing season in the history of the NFL starting for them in January.

I can see the "peyton comes up short in big games" thing but once he won a ring you can put all that to bed. His next big hurdle though is winning in the cold. Maybe that's why he went to Denver to prove that he can do that?

FWIW, I'd LOVE Manning quarterbacking the Bills right now

The best QB in the NFL? HA! Regular season doesn't mean a thing. I know you love to mix math and sports, but what he does in regular season games means nothing.

Would most fans want Peyton as their QB, yes. BUT that does not change the fact he is NOT the guy I'd want as my QB.

Brady hasn't been too successful in the playoffs in a while either. I can't violate and call Peyton a bum after one bad game.

Because he's overrated in the same sense that Michael Jordan was an overrated basketball player.

I don't see the humor in it. It's really not a debatable proposition for people who live outside of New England, but the joy of opinions is that everyone has them, right? I know you love to parrot ESPN cliches about "WHOMG clutch" and judge QBs based upon a small sample size of games played in January and used that to make singular determinations of how good QBs are, without context, but it reflects more on the people making those arguments than their targets, like Manning.

One comment on the "Manning can't win the big game" cliche: the idea that certain players are "clutch" and "chokers" is more of an ESPN construct than something based in reality. In fact, "choker" is pretty much the result of pervasive media narratives that get tagged onto players and then become hard to shake. I've often made the point about Tom Brady that if his career unfolded in the complete reverse, he would be the "WHOMG choker who puts up big stats QB", essentially Peyton Manning. Brady has been spectacularly mediocre in the playoffs since 2005, with his team losing 2 Super Bowls, 2 AFCCGs, and going one-and-done with a 14-2 juggernaut in 2010, yet he gets a pass because the narrative was already born in his case, and the facts got fixed around them.

The Pats/Saints game from earlier this year is a great example of this. Brady, on the second-to-last drive, threw what should have been a game-ending INT on a really bad pass, yet he was able to get the ball back, drive down the field, and throw a game-winning TD pass. We heard alot about the latter, but not the former. The narrative is fixed and all facts to the contrary get thrown out.

I'll stop there before this degenerates into another Brady v. Manning argument.

Damn I really don't see how what team I root for is relevant one bit, but ok. It happens time and time again around here, I try to engage in discussion and people just go to the "you're a raiders fan" thing. Original.

Last I checked he does have the same number of titles as the guys who I'm guessing you're saying should "definitely" be ahead of him (Rodgers, Brees). So the fact that Brees team didn't even make it last year gets ignored then?
