Nope. There should be absolutely no roofs or domes in football, baseball, soccer, rugby, or any other sport played on grass, real or artificial.I can't imagine the energy costs of any pro venue but I really cannot imagine the energy costs for a controlled atmosphere in massive open buildings like domes.

I kind of get the domes in the South, given that the only reason the South has grown in the last half decade is because of air conditioning; otherwise all those Yankees would never have moved down there. Also for emergency shelters I suppose.

We're worried about rain in warm weather SB venues now? Put a dome on California stadiums? WAT.

I could at least somewhat understand the crying about snow in superbowls. Next we'll start rioting because a kicker missed a FG during a windy SB game.

That's not my issue. It's more the people who select the SB sites. I remember hearing that the VIP types didn't like the SB held in Stanford stadium here because the seats were uncomfortable and the weather wasn't sunny and 70 degrees that day.

If they put a retractable roof, most of the regular season games would be under an open roof. It's the December and January games and especially any February games that it might host which would be under a closed roof.

Then of course, they could take away some of the offseason events which are held in arenas and maybe even compete with AT&T Park.

So it's more about the economic potential and return for this new stadium, not about what's preferable for the fan and the players.

They would be closing the roof all the time because its cloudy, its sprinkling, or its below 60 degrees. Sporting events are always a risk due to the Weather. That's what keeps the game so fun. The element of suprise with the weather

Super Bowl is a corporate event. Not something the NFL puts on for fans like us. The league is going to want to keep it as comfortable as possible. Only reason New York/New Jersey is hosting is because it's New York.

If that was solely the case than NY would've hosted a SB in the early days.

I get that it's all a corporate schmoozefest nowadays but football is an outdoor sport. The thing that has made football so remarkable in our minds are the games that involve weather. If you turn into something immaculately clean and artificial than you're going to lose everything that makes the game special.

I understand domed stadia for teams in the south where the heat can be a huge issue and the same goes for Arizona which for years before the Cardinals moved to University of Phoenix Stadium had issues with the heat but to make EVERY stadium domed or retractable is beyond ridiculous. Most of the retractable stadiums don't even use the retractability. I mean how many times has Reliant Stadium, Jerry World Lukas Oil Stadium and University of Phoenix Stadium have had their roofs open?

I think Seattle probably does it best in that they keep it open air so that the elements can play a part but the seating is pretty much covered so it's not too bad when it's raining/snowing.

Why did it take them so long to do it in NJ then?

The new stadium is a major factor in why New York finally got one. Corporate types do not want to sit out in the cold to watch a football game they care nothing about. There has already been talk of them complaining about having to stand outside in the cold waiting to get inside Super Bowl parties.

Doubt we see another cold weather area with an outdoor stadium hosts one for a long time. Super Bowl is not for the fans now more than ever.

We're lucky to see two games with flurries a year (this year was definitely an exception, not the norm and there haven't even been that many this year). But weather is "everything that makes the game special"?

Saying every game should be in a dome is more than a bit extreme, but I think you guys are going a bit overboard on the other end of the spectrum too.

For some teams, it does. Especially if one or both teams are good.

Yeah I loved that Ravens/Vikings game this year.

Im so pumped for the next couple of years that the Vikings play outdoors. The classics...

                              Demarco Murray Fined:

Not only is DeMarco Murray watching the playoffs this weekend, his wallet is lighter for a hit last week.
The Cowboys running back was fined $21,000 for leading with the crown of his helmet during last week’s loss to the Eagles, which kept the Cowboys out of the postseason.
It was a huge hit on Eagles defensive lineman Damion Square, flooring him in the open field. But it was clear at the time Murray would be making a donation.
For all the emphasis on the rule last offseason, it hasn’t been as widely called this year, as backs don’t seem to be doing things that much differently
