Re: NFL Off Topic
First let me put more precision to my rather blanket statement. When I say weather is "everything that makes the game special" I mean in terms of the imagery and iconic images one associates with it. I'm not saying I want to see weather play a part in every contest but it's nice to have a game or two a year where weather can be a big factor in the game.
When a game is being dictated on some level by snow or rain etc etc people on social media will talk about it and you bet your *** that most people will at the very least take a peek at that game. The other thing about weather and football is that it is a big part of the mythology of the game. We have games such as "The Mud Bowl", "The Ice Bowl", "The Freezer Bowl", "The Fog Bowl", the monsoon game in KC from the '90s, etc etc. Add to that the images of players running in the muck or the great images of games played in the snow. (The recent Philly game this year is a prime example) There's the imagery of Dick Butkus with his hands all taped up in the cold and the Vikings of the '70s being tough as nails not needing any heaters while their opponents freeze to death at the old Met and of course who can forget the classic icy conditions of one of the AFC Championship games between the Raiders and Steelers.
Those are the things that make the game so special and if that's replaced with the sterile environment of domed stadiums and field turf that never gets muddy than that takes away the charm and myth making that has been a sizable part of what makes the NFL what it is today.
Sorry, I wouldn't trade Lambeau for a multi-billion dollar looking Jerry Jones stadium for anything.
How often is there inclement or icy cold weather to deal with at Lambeau? There might be two home games in December and at the most, three home games in January, if they make it that far. The home games in December could have temperatures in the 30's or 40's.
It's not bone chilling cold like it will be on Sunday at Lambeau every year. The last game that was remotely similar was in 1967, 47 yrs ago. So, something that happens once every 47 years and you want a dome over Lambeau?Comment

With regards to the Lynch fine about not talking to media...
....I hope next season he talks to the media after every game, and the only answers he ever gives are "Beast mode. Next question."

Re: NFL Off Topic
Question: How're you doing?
Lynch: Smooth.
Question: Marshawn, what are your thoughts of how the season has gone?
Lynch: It's going pretty well.
Question: Does it help you to have the extra week after being banged up? To have that extra week to get ready to play to get your body ready and everything?
Lynch: Yeah. Rest helps.
Question: What kind of an impact – when you get a break – what can it do to revitalize you?
Lynch: Just refresh your body.
Question: How does it feel going into the playoffs? Is there any uncertainty or does the fact you guys have been there a couple of times before under Pete (Carroll) before help? How do you feel?
Lynch: I feel good. I like our chances.
Question: Looked like you guys got the running game going a little bit last week. Was something different or was it just committing to it?
Lynch: It was just all of us coming together, playing the game.
Question: What's it like working through practice this week not knowing you have to play yet? How do you keep yourself motivated this week to practice?
Lynch: We just took the approach of, well, not knowing, we're playing against ourselves this week. Giving that kind of effort against the best defense.
Question: What can benefit you by doing that? What can you learn about yourself in a week like that?
Lynch: When you get to practice against the best, it brings the best out of you.
Question: Last time you had a home playoff game, you had a pretty memorable run. Do you have anything in store for next week?
Lynch: I just hope to win, boss. Thank you, I appreciate it.

Re: NFL Off Topic
I couldn't care less if these guys spoke to the Media or not. Just do your job on Sunday and get a win for my team. Not sure why we care so much about it either.#RespectTheCultureComment

Yeah. And they DID make fun of how he talked. It's not like he just decided he was too good to talk or anything.Comment

It's not like we get great, insightful commentary from players anyways. Most of the time it's just cliche and rehearsed answers that we hear over and over again.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
We are taking it one day at a time.
It was a team effort.
We didn't take care of the football.
We/I need(ed) to make plays.
We have to execute.
Play to win the game.
We gotta go back and watch the tape.
I have no comment on that.
That's basically 90% of the press conference before/after the game, maybe throw in ~10 extra words and that's it.
If no one gave interviews, we really wouldn't be missing out on much.Khalabeeb - Tony Henderson

Re: NFL Off Topic
Interesting numbers concerning penalties from CBS Sports Pat Kirwan.
Each postseason, I track calls by officials. Every postseason team does it too, and provide players information they need and for the assistant coaches to take advantage of what officials aren't calling. Rules enforcement was an issue last season in the postseason and there are similar traits after four games.
Last postseason's trend to "let them play" -- not bogging down games with excessive penalty flags -- continued this past weekend, so coaches as well as players will plan accordingly.
During the regular season, there were an average of 14 penalties called each game. But in the four wild-card games there were only 31 penalties called -- or a little more than half or what we saw during the regular season.
There were only three penalties -- combined -- in the first quarter of the four games, as it appeared officials wanted games to get off to a smooth start. None of those calls were holding calls by offensive linemen. Rest assured, offensive line coaches are aware of that.
There were 295 pass plays called in the four games, resulting in one pass interference call and only four defensive holding calls. Be certain that secondary coaches will feel like their players can be more aggressive if this trend continues.Comment

I feel bad for the officials in this way: They're damned if they do damned if they don't. So yes, it's alarming that they're not seemingly doing their job but if they call it as they see it than people will cry out that the officials are taking over the game.
They just can't win and that's not even including incidents where they completely butcher a call.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club
