Marshawn used to talk to the media, but they gave him a lot of **** about the way he speaks. He felt really disrespected and stopped talking to them.

Is Alex Smith still viewed as a game manager?

            I guess I don't get the question.

He's always been a good game manager, he doesn't turn the ball over and that didn't change yesterday.

I thought he played much better than just the game manager label. Wondered if most thought that was an exception or maybe him getting better.

                I agree.

I also think when you make great plays with your legs, inside and outside of the pocket, you're something more than a game manager.

I don't get that term then. I consider Peyton Manning to be one of the best game manager's ever. I guess I never viewed it with any negative connotation.

I guess it's how you view it then, but some guys are referred to as only game managers, a la Trent Dilfer during the Ravens first SB run. I see it as being descriptive as someone who won't lose you the game and will make smart decisions, but who may not necessarily make the big play(s) to snatch a win.

I think most people still view him that way but slowly but surely he's breaking out of that mold. The last few games for KC this year he's been taking some more risks and using his feet to gain yardage a lot more.

He's one "big play to win a game" from busting out of the label IMO.

He had a few of those in SF, no?

He's had moments in his career where he'd make some big passing plays.

But he hasn't done so consistently and under Harbaugh, he was kept on a tight leash, particularly that first year where the kicker set a FG record because the 49ers were content to kick FGs and let the defense and special teams shut down the opponents.

I didn't watch too many Chiefs games but in the first part of the season, clearly their defense was carrying the day. Alex made some plays by throwing underneath and got great RAC plays from Charles, the 3rd down back and others.

The problem yesterday wasn't with Alex but after they got the big lead, did they run a lot or did they pass and give the ball back to the Colts to give them chances to come back?

He did have his moments but as wco said it seemed like Harbaugh wasn't fully committed to Smith and as soon as he got a chance he threw the guy under the bus. Kind of hard to shake the image when your head coach doesn't even have your back.

He made that big stick throw to Vernon Davis to beat the Saints in the first playoffs game under Harbaugh.

People were raving about it, saying he'd arrived.

Then he followed that up with a stinker against the Giants, was like 1/12 on third downs or some horrid percentage.

He can't throw outside the hashes and hasn't always been cool under pressure though in the first half yesterday, he was playing really well, getting out of the pocket at the right times.

But Alex has always tantalized and then eventually broke your heart. Reid is an aggressive play caller, though he doesn't have the WR weapons. BUt if they get their defense back on track next year, they should just ride Charles and let Alex manage the game, not turn it over.

That was the formula that made them 9-0. It may not be enough to beat the Broncos though, if the Broncos can put up over 30 against the defense.

Yea, but Alex Smith was the reason the Chiefs even had a chance at the end the second time they played the Broncos. He's shown himself to be more than a game manager on a number of occasions, imo.
