To be completely honest, my comment was more of a jab at Packers fans, than it was me claiming that my comment was set in stone. I thought it was clear, obviously it wasn't. Interwebz fail. I obviously can't say it's fact, he didn't win. I'm smart enough to know the difference.

Fair enough... long work day, I shouldn't have taken this so far off track.

So just to get this train back on track...

What do you guys think Revis could bring back in a trade? Obviously the injury hurts, as does the contract headaches he brings. But the other side shows that the Colts traded for Vontae Davis for a 2nd rounder, of whom I have a lower opinion of (but shows there's a market for CBs). The contract thing may not be an issue IMO, as there's teams out there like the Tampa who have massive cap space and obviously have the need for some help in the secondary.

        Thoughts?

Ughh, had a pretty long post typed out but then my computer froze.

But sort of like wwharton said I don't get the fascination over the term shutdown corner. It's just some flashy media term that lots of positions in lots of sports have. He's been the best cover corner in the league for the last few seasons. Call it what you want.

As far as value of him vs. the top player at other positions on defense, I don't know how you even measure that. It depends on matchups. Against some offenses I'd rather the best pass rusher, some I'd rather the best NT, some the best MLB, etc. At the end of the day he's one guy.

For the Jets, sure in their situation if they could get some good draft picks for him and could get some young cheaper players to upgrade multiple positions, it would make sense to trade him. That's not going to happen. I'd rather just keep him and see what happens next offseason.

Idk what team is willing to deal with this guy's contract issues. He wants 16 mill next year and will hold out the following year to get 20 million because thats how he works.
My take on this, it was reported after the first hold out(where everyone was on his side) that the Jets GM/Ownership told him this is just to hold you over before we work on a better deal when he next held out. If that's the case, I see his point. He outplayed that contract and was promised another one, ownership/powers-that-be didn't come through.

As for the 16mil per year, if he comes back and plays the way he did before, he will get 16 mil, easy.

I may be "misremembering" but I thought there was another period in there and today would be him feeling he's outplayed THAT contract as well.

I also don't know the salary breakdown of corners to agree/disagree with him making 16M "easily". Does anyone know what corners/dbs are going for? What'd Aso get from the Eagles? What was Champ's last salary? I've looked at this as being similar to Hester wanting to get paid like a WR for being a great returner. If Revis is trying to get DE/OLB pass rusher money when that's a different bracket than corners generally get then he's simply asking for too much.

According to this, Aso was top paid CB w/ 11 mil last year, Freeney/Dumervil top paid pass rushers at 14 mil.

I doubt coming off an injury he'll get 16 mil.

16 mil is too much for a non qb or pass rusher.

We can doubt, but most 'experts' see it as a possibility.

Off an injury, it depends how he plays this year. If he comes back and plays like nothing happened to him...he'll get that from someone.

I thought he held out twice? I could be the one that's mistaken.

Honestly, I was joking with the Roger Clemens wording but I really don't remember. I remember discussing it in a thread but can't remember the details.

He held out after being drafted, and then the hold out a few years ago. He didn't hold out last year but he talked about possibly holding out trying to get a new deal.

$16 Mil for a CB is not a smart investment and the team that foolishly decides to give him that much, will regret it at some point.

Especially a CB coming off an ACL. Name one corner that bounced back well after an ACL injury
