Them not giving into the NFL like they damn should. Its a tradition for the Super Bowl champion to open season at home as first game played. MLB has 162 games it shouldn't of been a problem to just move times or day. I think MLB is just giving NFL the big F you because the product that is the NFL is a lot more popular nowadays. MLB's stubborness is there efforts that you just called me out for. And yes I'm well aware about schedule being out earlier.

It's a tradition? Hmm... No, it's been going on since 2002, at the latest. Last year it was on a Wednesday.

The MLB has no reason to give up their game, and the NFL has no reason to raise a stink over it.

Well they're trying to do it every season now. And well there is a Jewish holiday this time on that Wednesday. If I'm not mistaken the president had a speech is why they flexed that one. But you want me to be real with you guys? MLB has 162 games every year, god forbid if they moved around one of those to give NFL its champion a proper opening to the season. 1 NFL game is more valuable then one baseball game when looking at the lengths of the season. The problem really is Bud Selig is jealous that the NFL is more popular then MLB and this is one way for him to tell them to suck it.

Right, and what does the MLB get for the issues rescheduling their game would cause? The MLB is supposed to just kneel at the feet of the almighty NFL without getting anything in return?

They offered them money compensation to make up loss of changing the night game to day game.

So the "efforts" you are speaking of is the NFL saying "no". If that is the case I will just bow out now, because your stance is comical to me.

It's been stated about 5 times that it isn't just the MLB, but the MLBPA needs to approve the move as well, and given that both teams are away you are talking about altering 3 games for one. But like I said, I will bow out of this because at this point your "angst" is making me laugh.

Alright I'll admit my view on baseball nowadays probably hinders my opinion in this whole argument. I just haven't liked the direction baseball has gone and it hits me hard that my favorite sport loses out on having the Super Bowl Champion open at home. I mean they could easily move the game to day for MLB. The games prior for both baseball teams are a train ride distance away so they really wouldn't be getting screwed that bad. It really shouldn't be huge deal if the NFL can compensate them for the revenue they lose by changing it to a day game. Just putting out where I'm coming from not trying to have a full fledged argument.

Are we really that deep into the offseason in that a discussion on what day to play football has taken over?

I'd rather discuss how good the Chiefs are going to be this year.

I don't view it so much as an NFL vs. MLB issue. There are lots of good matchups the NFL could set up, and I doubt they'll lose any viewers. It is a little bit of a bummer for Ravens fans.....I suppose??....but maybe they don't care and are content watcing the O's?

As the most outspoken Ravens fan on this, you're completely off based. In the grand scheme of things there's no reason the MLB would jump through all the necessary hoops to make this have the least amount of impact (changing 3 games) or ANY hoops at all (moving the game to 1pm which is still an inconvenience since both teams will be getting into Baltimore at about 2am). Don't forget, this also isn't an issue with every city that has both a baseball and football team. If the two didn't share a parking lot it wouldn't matter one bit. Whether you like Selig or not, he has every right to laugh at the idea this is something he should even shed a drop of sweat over.

It's a bigger issue for the team and city than the fans. As PPM and others have stated, Baltimore will have their party. It may be on that same day, it may be the actual home opener, whenever. What's lost is the marketing opportunity that only comes with playing on that day. Teams like the Cowboys, Steelers and more recently Patriots (to name a few) built a global fanbase by being in the public eye so much over the years. Casual fans and fans looking for a team to grab them watch THIS game. And as for the city itself, having the spotlight on it for one of the few games that anyone with even a passing interest in the NFL will be watching is huge... especially a city like Baltimore, still known as "where they filmed The Wire" so those are the biggest loses here, and I really couldn't see away around it.
