Re: NFL Off Topic
Original rant not worth the argument but yeah in today's NFL you won't find at least one player on the field who isn't yelling for a flag at any given timeLast edited by Chrisksaint; 11-27-2013, 12:55 AM.Saints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment

Re: NFL Off Topic
Whenever a positive play happens for either side of the field, the commentators HAVE to say something like " And there are no flags on the play!!" in excitement. Thats where we are in football today. Its surprising and exciting to see a big play not be flagged.
The biggest crowd reactions are to what the refs do weather they hold a flag in their pocket or throw one. Its not even about the play its about the officiating. Thats the show now. Its saddening. Its becoming a series of bailouts, and players learning exactly how to get them.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
How much do you guys actually think the whining influences Officials?
I want to believe that it never influences them throwing a flag, but I am seeing more and more late flags. I know the Officials get together and discuss and then throw a late flag sometimes, but I think with the NFL's strong focus on player safety they are being influenced more and more by players throwing their arms up asking for a flag.Texas A&M Aggies

Re: NFL Off Topic
I think 10-15 years ago officials weren't influenced as much but I get a feeling that with some players and how vociferous they can be in trying to get a flag it's only human nature to give in once in a while.
Hell, sometimes you see an official throw a flag and he's a million miles away from the actual play!Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

And the worst part is, a lot of times they don't even call the obvious Penalties where the DB gets beat and doesn't even look for the ball but ends up boxing out the receiver, pulling on the jersey, pretty much anything short of tackling the Receiver before the ball gets there. For whatever reason they miss the obvious ones, yet call the ticky-tackiest of penalties.
It feels like Flip a coin to decide how Contact with receivers will be officiated today.Last edited by Feared; 11-27-2013, 03:18 AM.Minnesota Vikings

Re: NFL Off Topic
Yup, the worst in this regard are the Pass Interference calls these days. It's gotten to the point where a Defender makes a good play on the ball, looks the ball in all the way, knocks it down BUT yet a Flag still flies out because the receiver stumbled over, or the DB had their hand on the receiver but did not grab or tug; and then the receiver milks it and jumps up and flails their arms for a flag.

Alot of it is the same as QB's. The WR's and QB's who are the big stars will always get the penalty calls. Like NBA, the players themselves can be brushed or touched wrong and here comes the flag. Much like the Carolina -New England game, I hate how they always claim they will let them play the last playof the game and you can have the most hideous penalty be overlooked yet mid game a defender puts his hand on an Offensive players back and they scream PI!!atleast..Its not DelawareComment

Re: NFL Off Topic
I would say the one position that I believe draws the most flags by throwing their arms up is a Defensive Lineman.
The reason I say that is there is so much going on in the trenches that when the referee or the umpire see a DL arms go up in the arm is draws attention. Granted a lot of the times it is a good call, but there are times I have seen DEs throwing up their arms looking for a flag when there is no holding and they get the call.Texas A&M Aggies
