    Re: NFL Off Topic

Jerry Jones has let the early to mid 90s get to his head. He forgets that the reason they had so much success was because there was a strong organizational structure and strong willed people with sharp minds working for/with him. I bet privately Jerry thinks all the success in getting the players that comprised those Cowboys teams was all him when the reality was that Jimmy Johnson kept Jerry in check and they worked TOGETHER in a collegial fashion. Let us not forget that the Cowboys at that time had one of, if not the best personnel people around starting off in the rebuilding phase with Bobby Ackles in charge and then later on Jimmy Johnson had a bigger hand in it.

The success of the Cowboys in those days was collaborative and part of it was luck (the fleecing of the Vikings) but there was some teamwork involved rather than Jerruh doing everything by feel and oftentimes without any real contention from coaches and personnel people.

Agree. People seem to forget the Eye for talent that Jimmy Johnson had. He would take guys 3rd and 4th round and have them making a name for themselves in less then a year. He was the brains behind Dallas while Jones stacked the money. Jones runs his team like his business. He takes risks but never sees a plan through. Im really surprised hes stuck with Romo this long.

Too powerful to be an owner? It's his team, if he wants to be a GM so be it. If he was up there saying he was the greatest GM in the game, then you could call him delusional.

Right now he has the controller in a real life game of MyGM. Why give it up if you don't want to? The franchise is still rather profitable I would imagine.

Jerry is rich, he has a successful franchise financially (but really how hard is that to do in that market and state?). But his team has been .500 for over a decade. He sucks at his job as GM of the Dallas Cowboys. Nothing you can spin about that.

Who is trying to spin that? I feel like everyone generally accepts that.

I dont see why the high value of the franchise came into the conversation about Jerry sucking as a GM.

Someone called him delusional because he is still the GM and thinks they can win. I don't see what is so delusional about Jerry. That's all. Is he a little overly optimistic? Sure.

My point was maybe he just enjoys it and the bottom line isn't suffering because of that.

Who says the franchise isn't suffering because of that?

The Cowboys are basically huge by default, great history and market, but I assure you they would be even more profitable if they were a real SB contender.

When I said JJ is too powerful to be put in his place, I was referring to his success as the owner of GM. Exactly because they ARE so rich and profitable, he won't even try to change anything. And then, he'll leave the team to his son or whoever.

Change won't come until you see it effect the bottom line. It's a business and until that begins to show signs of the bad results on the field, why would he stop being a GM? If he likes it, why stop? I sure as hell wouldn't.

Yes, he can do it as long as he wants, it's his team and he's filthy rich, but that doesn't make it the right thing to do.

He's delusional because he thinks they'll have success on the field with his GM moves.

                                This discussion is going nowhere.
