Giants extend Tom Coughlin deal another year. Great.

Re: NFL Off Topic
I agree that things like DUI get swept away when they're just as dangerous if not more. We've almost become immune to it. "He's an idiot," now get back on the field and win games for my team.
It's hard to defend Rice with the information we have. Depending on the charges and if he serves time, the NFL probably suspends indefinitely and he'll have to file for reinstatement. If he doesn't see jail time, probably gets 4-8 games.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds

Re: NFL Off Topic
I'll break up these pictures with an actual thought/feeling: it does seem like (at least here) people are really coming down hard on Rice. I guess it's not a typical domestic dispute situation, he showed some serious violence by not just hitting her, but knocking her out. Regardless of what's going on between the two, straight up KO'ing your wife/girlfriend/whatever she is is pretty extreme. Still, both are getting a charge, is that right? It muddies it up. It's hard to defend Rice, but if she's attacking him, and he gives her a swift punch that happens to knock her out... I don't know if it's fair to label him a complete scumbag.
From what we know, this was a one time incident and not something that is an actual sign of this man's character. For the most part, this is out of character. Now, if evidence comes out that Rice has a history of violence, then my stance changes but until then, he didn't kill anybody, he didn't drive a vehicle while intoxicated, he isn't part of a long-term bullying clique, he just knocked somebody out, and from what I've read, after the other individual had struck him first.
I've got Rice's current offense, at what it is, well below a DUI, which puts the lives of innocent people at risk. Rice's current situation has no innocent party.
To Bmore, I'm not trying to defend it, but it isn't as bad as some believe it to be.
Now this is a far worse offense: http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/10...d-indefinitely.Last edited by Kaiser Wilhelm; 02-21-2014, 09:27 PM.Thanks to LBzrules: So these threads won't be forever lost.

Re: NFL Off Topic
Who's even coming down that hard on him though?
He deserves the bad press he's getting. It was an extremely stupid and wrong thing to do.
I've always liked Rice, and I fully believe that there are people who are mostly good, but make some really terrible mistakes, and that he could be one of them; there are a lot of gray areas in life.
But who cares right now? You don't get outta the shadow of **** like this in a couple days, or weeks, or months. He ****ed up big time, there's no way around that.
He may not be done in the league, or even as a Raven, but there's no defending his actions.

Re: NFL Off Topic
Psh, grey areas? One time incidents?
Man I dunno about the people you hang out with but punching a woman in the face is downright despicable no matter the circumstances where I come from. Cant say me or my friends or family have "one time incidents" of knocking out our women that's for sure.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
Unless she directly threatened his life, I don't see how Rice can escape this without being the bad guy. I won't go all white knight and claim under no circumstance is it ok to hit a woman. But from reading this story, it doesn't seem like it was appropriate in this case.Comment

Compared to me, some vile person who not only hangs out with woman beaters, but condones their acts, you're truly a saint.

Re: NFL Off Topic
How about you get off your high horse, guy. I'm sure you think you're better than everyone else and everything, and I'm sure you've never heard of anyone getting so drunk they do something very regrettable, or act in the heat of the moment, and I'm also sure you intentionally disregarded the actual comments I made about the severity of the act so you could make some remark about the moral high ground you stand on. Bravo, bravo, everyone thinks you're a stand up guy now.

We all make mistakes in life. Most of us have probably gotten wasted and did something regrettable.
My opinion is that hitting a woman, be it drunk, high, sober, whatever, is one of the most despicable acts you can do and falls into another category rather than "just a drunken mistake" or a "one time incident."Comment

High horse?
Maybe I'm misreading something but I'm pretty sure his only point was hitting a woman is pretty despicable in almost any circumstance and this seems like one of them given the details we have.
Nowhere in his post did I ever see him taking a high moral ground or being on his high horse??????
I know you don't think it's okay to hit a woman right?
If your argument is people do dumb things when drunk I don't think anyone would disagree.
I'm pretty sure his response wasn't even directed at you.Last edited by kehlis; 02-21-2014, 11:16 PM.Comment

My ex wife decided to assault me so I ended up tackling her to the ground which gave her an concussion.
She got arrested for assault and I wasn't charge with anything due to it being self defense.
So I know from personal experience that there are times it's okay to defend yourself against a women. I haven't seen the Rice video yet but thought I'd give my 2 cents.MLB: Texas Rangers
