I'm talking about current players BTW.

Right now other than Decker none that I can think of. But there have been others to do them while being in the NFL including Chad Johnson and Hank Baskett. A handful have been on dancing with the stars while still being players including Jacoby Jones and Jason Taylor. I know Gronkowski was in talks to be on a show, but I dont know where that went or if its still in the process. I think I heard AJ Mccarron is on a reality show that really stars his girlfriend but I only heard about that recently.

Usually a player has to have an interesting spouse or family to even be considered for these things. Not any NFL player could have one but I'd bet many others would do so if given the chance.

I think we need to wait and see the nature of this reality show before we crucify him for doing it. Not all of those shows are cut from the same cloth. If it inspires some people, who am I to question it?

The Rams know what they signed up for when they drafted him. Remember they drafted him, not signed him as a FA. They wanted him and were ready for this attention. And if they didnt anticipate this, then they were fooling themselves.

I figured it was but just wanted to make sure because I had a list ready of players who supposedly focused 100% or close to it on Football and still did pretty damn good for themselves and half of them were 4th-7th rd picks in their Draft.

He said that it was disingenous to say "I only want to focus on football and nothing else" then go and do things outside of football. My point was players do it all.the.time. and I provided an example.
Saying players do it all the time and providing an example doesn't make less true though. Otherwise, just come out and say that you want to use the NFL to help get your "brand" out there or whatever(Realistically, I know this won't happen)or just don't say that you only want to focus on Football only when you(not you, but any player in general)know it's nothing but BS anyway.

Personally, him having a show isn't going to bother me one bit.

I think I heard AJ Mccarron is on a reality show that really stars his girlfriend but I only heard about that recently.
This is the most recent news about that:

On Wednesday, we passed along some comments made by Katherine Webb’s sister about a reality show being filmed that would cover her sister’s wedding to Alabama quarterback and NFL hopeful A.J. McCarron.
McCarron reacted quickly to say that he’s only interested in playing football and that what “my future wife does is her business,” perhaps in order to stave off any criticism about his priorities heading into the NFL draft. On Friday, a publicist for the couple pulled things back even further by telling CBS Houston that talk of a show is premature although she indicated McCarron is in on the decision-making process.
“There is not actually a reality tv show as of yet. The initial article that came out yesterday was very premature as AJ and Katherine are listening to pitches from a number of production companies and networks about a potential show but there is not actually a “show” to talk about yet.”

If reality shows just went away altogether, none of this would be an issue.

No, I didn't say that. Other players doing it have nothing to do with this. It's the "don't define me by my sexuality, define me as a football player", "one day we'll get to a point where his sexuality doesn't matter" things that he and his supporters peddled and continue to peddle yet going and doing a documentary thing that focuses specifically ON his sexuality that's the problem.

If he wanted to be treated as just any other player and if people want his sexuality to not matter, it shouldn't be highlighted. He should just be a 7th round pick who, oh well whatever, likes dudes instead of chicks.

Second, no kidding. Everyone on the Rams are biting their upper lip right now. But from what I heard, the OWN cameras won't have any access to the team and Sam's camp specifically didn't ask for anything special. So it sounds like this will be all off the field stuff.

Even still, as a rookie... any rookie, you have no idea the time constraints of the preseason in the NFL. When you're a 7th round pick, you should be even more sensitive to what may be required of you to just get a shot at making the team. Personally I'd like to believe Sam is taking ownership to the role he can play in many people's lives, rather than jumping on the chance to get a pay check and/or fame. But I still worry that this is a bad decision that may negatively effect him making the team.

And then, of course, there will be the discussion of if he couldn't cut it bc of the show, his skills, or general perception of players in the locker room about his sexuality. His road is rough enough as it is. I really hope he's not biting off more than he can chew.
Good points as always. Doing well my friend, hope you can say the same!

He said all those things leading up to the draft. That is literally the season of misinformation. We joke about everyone's "sources" during that period because we all know that it's mostly a sham. It's pretty fair to assume that if the documentary stuff leaked then it would have probably left him undrafted. He said what his future bosses wanted to hear in order to get himself a job. I don't understand why that is such a bad thing. Who doesn't bend the truth in job interviews?

Have you never stretched the truth in a job interview?
So we SHOULD, in fact, judge him on something like that? That's terrible if so. And you *might* have a point except all his supporters and everyone in the media said the same **** he was saying.

As for your question, not really, no. I pride myself on my integrity and honesty. In fact, I lost a really good job opportunity because I was too honest. Leave it to me to disclose my back issues while being interviewed at a workers' comp law firm.

I don't even think it was a smoke screen to NFL teams. I think there's too much pressure being the first for him to ignore it. If he does, he "turns his back" on the LGBT community, if he highlights it now he's asking for the spotlight, positive or negative.

No matter how Sam plays this, he's damned from one group or another.

Regarding Sam's show: To call it a reality show would probably be stretching the term a bit. It sounds to me like it'll be a very serious documentary style production. I haven't seen the Lindsay Lohan docuseries they did on that network but from what I've heard it was a pretty serious and not too flashy thing. I think that's the angle they're going to go with here. It's only natural to want to see and follow the journey of the first openly gay football player in NFL history. Knowing that the Rams and the NFL aren't going to be involved (at least not yet, I think it'd be a golden opportunity here) than it should be treated as something more serious and akin to a documentary or news piece.

If the cameras were going to be in team facilities, I'd say it's more of an unwise choice, and it still may be in terms of his football career, but that doesn't seem to be the case just yet.

Idk how bad it could really be, but I don't doubt a lot of his teammates are already getting pissed off, among many other players around the league.

And I'm not a fan of most reality tv, but this doesn't seem like it's gonna be some Kardashian bull****.
