What kind of nanny-*** league is this?

We're at the point where getting caught on video for 10 seconds = an out-of-control alcoholic relapsing, lol.

But unfortunately the Browns felt like they had to make Manziel agree to a no-tolerance policy, and he went along with it.

So no one is going to say it? It's right in the article explaining why this was bound to happen. Fine, I'll say it:

Officiating can probably be the explanation as to why this is the worst NFL season in some time.

There are 2-3 great teams, a few middlers and a WHOLE LOT of awful. Can't tell me officiating hasn't played into that.

The argument presented is basically that McCown sucks, Manziel has shown some promise out there... might as well see what he can do since the season is lost anyway. This, of course, completely ignores anything having to do off the football field.

This line of thinking is why Hardy has a job. You don't want to follow me down that rabbit hole? That's fine... but not sure why you'd poke your head in the hole and scream "hey everyone look over here" if you personally don't think it has a place in the discussion.

It was an analogy, and specifically to point out that sometimes off the field behavior should be enough to get a player benched.

I don't give a **** what Johnny does on his damn bye week. He went to rehab. He failed at it. What does that have to do with football? Did he drink responsibly and within the law? If so then idgaf.

What the hell is Josh McCown doing for you? Do you monitor his drinking the same way? Miss me with this headline.
If his rehab stint was his way of showing maturity and growth to the team then him failing at it is also failing the team. He's not suspended, he got benched. Last I checked, he barely had the starting job and definitely isn't owed it. He's seriously lucky nothing came of the DV allegations that were out there... that story hasn't even cooled yet and then this comes up? And all you just say "Browns suck anyway, just start him... footballreasons" and in the same breath criticize the franchise for not handling situations just like this one properly.

He wrote a heartfelt letter to the Houston fans.

And of course they ate it all up.

It was a silly analogy, period. That people like you like to use anytime an athlete gets in trouble now.

Most of us people giving Pettine crap today have been doing so prior before today because he's handled it poorly all year. This recent news is just a cop out for him to in a way "justify" his decision by telling folks, "See, I told you he was all trouble and this is why all along I started McCown over him".

And sure, depending on what said athlete has done off the field, it can be enough to get a player benched(that's a case by case basis because not all cases will be the same).

But if he didn't break any laws or violate any team rules while on his bye week, well you have to excuse me and others for not standing by the decision like you seem to be.

I'm in favor of the Manziel benching but man, you can't equate Johnny with Greg Hardy. Johnny's a lot of things but he isn't a woman beater. The guy needs to grow up a bit though.

I feel bad for the next coach if that's true. I mean, switching from one scheme to the next is tough. Switching from Chip Kelly's to a more traditional is going to take massive work.

I'm confused about this play clock situation...

I'm not defending the referees here right now, but I think the real boneheads are Rex Ryan and the entire Bills offense (incl. Watkins).

If I'm Ryan, I am sealing the refs exits to the stadium until they address the situation properly. I would pull out a rule book then and there. There is no excuse for them to not have gotten that addressed even while the entire crowd was celebrating a victory, no matter the improbability of the situation for them.

Officials make mistakes. Any time an umpire in a game makes a rule book mistake when I'm coaching softball, I am protesting until it is corrected. Period.

I simply do not care what players do on their off time so long as nobody is being hurt and no laws are broken. In this instance, I don't care what Johnny did.

He's being benched because the coach doesn't like a photo he was in. Not because he's a bad player or they have better options. But because the coach doesn't like what his qb does on his off week. Yeah ok.
