Re: NFL Off Topic
And with this, every chance we get we complain about the NFL fining celebrations. So here's a time where they decided to let it go and they're now getting attacked for that.
This isn't a dammed if they do or don't situation. You sound like my man in here that's always defending the NFL. It's simple, if a player is doing something to promote a good cause (salvation army/cancer) you don't fine him. They contradcticted themselves and are now getting criticized and rightfully so.
But the NBA has grown it's business by promoting individuals while the NFL promotes the name on the front of the jersey, everyone is replaceable, etc. I'm not arguing that the NFL is right or the players are right. I'm just not going to be naive in thinking many players aren't trying to find loopholes to get what they want. The celebrations were a way, then they were mostly taken away. Players want to try with the only piece of the uniform that could possibly be customized, the shoes.
If I wanted to play the victim card, I could get a ton of people behind me by saying I want to do "x" for a cause, and make the big bad NFL look like a-holes for not letting me support this important cause. The NFL caves to just one player on this front, and they cave to them all. So like it or not, they are right in sticking to their uniform policies. And the fines aren't much to these players, so the ones who feel that strongly just pay the damn fine and keep it moving.
I personally think Zeke's celebration is unique bc the salvation army is a great cause and that bucket just happens to be there during this, the GIVING season, and it was (appeared) spontaneous, AND he was properly flagged for it when it happened.
I do agree they should've just fined him, but to avoid all of this BS backlash that I think is ridiculous, but will certainly be sure they don't loosen the reigns anymore so they can continue to be considered the Scrooges of celebration.Comment

It apparently will not be run by the NFL. That actually makes a lot more sense.Comment

They don't issue a fine to one of the league's rising stars who very clearly broke their rule.
But happily fine a player who wore cleats in tribute of someone who had died.
Either change the rule, ditch it, or be consistent. The fact someone gets an ridiculous fine for paying homage to a person who has passed away quite frankly makes me sick.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
It's not about the tribute...it's about the color scheme. If OBJ's cleats were blue and red instead of purple he doesn't get fined. Because Golden Tate wore a pair of cleats that were a tribute to someone but were blue and white and the league had 0 issue with it.

As long as I can identify what team I'm looking at and which player I'm looking at, let them wear whatever cleats they want within reason (Nothing stupid, self centered, etc..).
Sports is about more than winning and losing, it's a platform to do great things and give back and help unite people.
If you are in the armed forces you are expected to have your uniform perfect down to the smallest detail. That's the problem. This is the NFL. Not boot camp.Comment

Oh come on, you can't tell me you watch a game and take issue with someone else's cleats being a different colour from the rest of the teams?

I don't have an issue with it. I'm just saying what the issue is with the NFL.

The Giants retro storntrooper look is NIIICE. That should be one of their alternates. Love that they're they're using the old "Giants" logo too.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

But this isn't any other job. And I would think most jobs don't call you out of uniform because of your shoe game.
