1/2 NFL source: League never promised to provide list of attendees to Colin Kaepernick workout and said multiple clubs are attending.

2/2 So Kaepernick camp says it was promised list of attendees and can prove it, and an NFL source said league did not make that promise.

Another source in Kaepernick’s camp said he was on the phone call when the NFL said how it would provide the names of attendees. On it goes.

      Per ProFootballTalk

The NFL and its Players Association could have a deal completed by early 2020 after making progress in negotiations, Mark Maske of the Washington Post reports. The new Collective Bargaining Agreement likely includes a 17-game regular season.

The agreement would scale back the preseason and could come with an expansion of the playoffs from 12 to 14 teams, Maske adds. Unlike an increase in regular-season games, though, expansion of the postseason does not require the union’s approval.

Any expansion of the regular season, of course, would mean owners have made financial concessions to get players to agree. The NFLPA consistently has opposed the idea of more regular-season games, citing player safety concerns.

Maske writes that while it is unclear exactly what the concessions are, the new deal could include modifications to the rookie compensation system put in place in the 2011 labor deal.

The biggest issue likely will come in the split of the NFL’s revenue, estimated at $15 billion per season, under the salary cap system.

But the recent movement in negotiations has created optimism the sides could reach a deal by the end of the postseason. Super Bowl LIV is scheduled for Feb. 2, ending the 2019 season.

The current CBA expires after the 2020 season.

17 game regular season seems weird. Possibly 1 neutral site game for every team?

Do they even have 16 sites to host games every year?

        I like shorter preseason though.

And would be interesting to see an extra team in playoffs so that only 1 team has a BYE in round 1.

That's fine but go to 18 then.

It may just be a bargaining chip though, we'll see.

I’m okay with making it just the top seed getting a bye. Makes that much more valuable. I’m actually in support of this from a fan’s POV and also accomplishes the goal of making that money.

The 17 game season I don’t get or want. Prime numbers are wack. 16 shouldn’t be messed with. Unless it’s to add an extra bye week? Would that somehow make sense? Add an extra week without adding another game?

Actually, I think adding a bye week makes alot of sense. It gives the players another week off and adds a week for the fans to watch (meaning we get to watch more of the existing 256 regular season games), in addition to adding another week of high revenue primetime games to the league's coffers.

Well it's already a 17 week season, so if they're talking about changing something to 17, it has to be the number of games

1993 was an 18 week schedule with 2 bye weeks for each team. Per Wikipedia, 2 bye weeks were too disruptive, so the following year it went back to just 1 bye week per team. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1993_NFL_season

I recall reading about this. I believe the substance was that the schedule makers botched the structure of the schedule moreso than it was a bad idea. Would love to see it revisited, especially with more teams, different TV contracts, streaming, etc. Its been over a quarter century, let’s give it another try.

It’s funny that the teams didn’t like the extra week of rest. While I can see some of that being disruptive (especially if they are scheduled oddly, which I wouldn’t put it past the NFL to screw some teams), I think the sentiment among players now is an extra week of rest would be welcome. Especially if we’re adding a game and eliminating a bye week for the 2 seed in the playoffs.

I was a proponent of the 18 week with 2 byes regular season when we discussed this earlier this year. I think the 2nd bye should be scheduled around each team Thursday night football game so that they have a week and half to prepare and then rest.

7 team playoff wouldn’t bother me because of the 1 seed would still get a bye and triple headers could be fun. However I would prefer to just leave it at 6 teams per conference.

NFL would never do it, but give all teams a bye week before Thanksgiving, since they won't do it the last weekend and miss all those tv slots. Then they are all healed up for the playoff push.
