I believe I said it when the news broke, but reminds me of Lamar Jackson taking over for Flacco. Miami has won 2 straight but we’re 1-3 before then, similar to a bumbling 4-5 Ravens team. Of course, Flacco was subpar by the eye and numbers test while Fitz has the Miami offense functioning relatively well, so going to Tua might not be the offensive spark Lamar was for the Ravens. And of course, we’ll see how Flores and his offensive staff mold the offense to cater to Tua’s strengths. Harbaugh & Roman were masterful with that in Year 1 and produced an MVP in Year 2.
In an expanded playoff field, they probably will not rip off a 6-1 streak like Baltimore did but might not need to. The AFC is stacked at the top with Buffalo, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Tennessee, and Kansas City so 5 of 7 spots. Cleveland and Indianapolis have positioned themselves well but I don’t see them being any more convincing than Oakland or Miami (or NE or LAC). Those last two wild card spots are totally up for grabs for whoever gets hot. Throw a wild card in the mix like Tua, you’ll get some highs and I’m sure some lows, but there’s a clear path to the playoffs if he and they play well even taking in to account the inevitable rookie struggles.
As a division opponent, it’s worrisome. We know Fitz, we’ve beat him plenty... now that Miami game that I figured was a likely win is much murkier.
