I'm still trying to see the logic in that pick. I learned a lot of football from Pete Caroll, but I just don't understand the pick. Nothing against Irvin. Excellent speed rusher. Didn't see a lot of moves though. But I don't see him as a every down player. Could very well be wrong, but I think that is a bit high for a situational player. If he ends up being a full time player he will surprise the hell outta me.

Personally I just don't think it was the right move for a rebuilding team to spend a 1st round pick on a 28/29 year old rookie QB. IMO they would have been better off filling a different position or trading down with that pick, keeping Colt as the starter and letting the chips fall where they may. Then next year they could potentially take Landry Jones or Matt Barkley.

I have no problem w/ what they did for Richardson. I just don't like the Weeden move. You point out little, but I still say it's a problem when your best skill player is a #2 WR. I agree about playing 3 top defenses twice a year. My thing is, i don't think it's a McCoy problem, but a Browns offense problem. I just don't see a 28 year old QB that tore up average defenses as the solution.Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Re: 2012 NFL Draft Thread.
I was at work, but followed the draft on ESPN.com. When I saw that guys like DeCastro, Ingram and Coples were falling, I was pumped. The guy I wanted was DeCastro, despite Seattle's obvious need for a pass rusher. I just think the guy will be a monster in the NFL.
Then I saw Bruce Irvin's name.
I was immediately livid, as were my buddies, but I've cooled a bit. The guy has character concerns, but he is arguably the best pure pass rusher in the draft. He will present some nightmares for opposing QB's. He's not a three-down guy and that's what makes me skeptical, but if he can come out and get 10 sacks as a rookie, all will be well. No one can doubt the guy's natural ability and physical attributes. No more double teaming Red Bryant with Irvin coming off of the edge. We have a good, young defense that's one glaring need was a consistent pass rush and Irvin might fix that.
It should be noted that a league source confirmed that seven NFL teams had Irvin in their top 15. So obviously Carroll and Schneider saw something that they really liked. Watching video on him, the dude is a beast at getting to the QB. Hopefully he can develop as a player and be more than a passing downs guy.
Stupid to judge a pick before the kid steps onto the field so I'm not going to get too excited or down about the pick. I'll just say that if it doesn't work out, Carroll will be in deep **** with Seattle fans.
Carroll is very familiar with Irvin as well. He recruited him hard to USC when he was a JUCO player, so he obviously saw something he liked in him then too. We really didn't get to see the entire Irvin package at WVU because the defensive coaches and 3-3-5 defense really limited him here I think.Last edited by crques; 04-27-2012, 09:03 AM.Comment

Right now at this point in the draft we are worse offensive than we were at this point last year. Our offensive line is much worse, our wr corp is the same. Hb aren't top notch or even middle of the road. Before we drafted Richardson we had THE WORST run game in the league. We are now most likely around 20th rushing. Without pass protection, people actually holding onto the ball when its thrown their way. We will be worse offensive than last year.

Re: 2012 NFL Draft Thread.
As long as we get a WR or OT/OG with our second who can come in and start, Im fine with the Weeden pick. The only thing that hurt Weeden this draft was his age, if he was 22 years old, he is easily be a top 10 pick IMO.Comment

The right side of our offensive line couldn't block my grandpa, that wasn't mccoys fault,

You must be one of those Browns fans who wanted Kalil if he was there. Browns fans are foolish with this offensive line stuff. We have an average offensive line, below average if we don't replace Cousins, which we will. The line is fine, it's time to get playmakers.Too Old To Game Club

Re: 2012 NFL Draft Thread.
Never in a million years did I think the Patriots would get a player as good as Jones or Hightower and I wake up this morning and they really do have both of them now.
Never been this excited the morning after a Patriots draft.
I'd grab an DB or an OL in the 2nd, try and trade the other 2nd rounder for two later picks and call it a day tonight.
Belichick's plan this offseason has just been...real damn good, finally.Comment

So the Seahawks get the perfect piece to improve one of their biggest defensive weaknesses, which was the pass rush. Then they can groom him to be the LEO to replace Clemons if he signs somewhere else in free agency. They have a year to work on his technique, bulk him up and hopefully turn him into a decent end against the run.
Aldon Smith played in only passing situations last year, and I'd say he worked out damn well for the 49ers. If Irvin can get to double digit sacks, I'd say it would be a very, very successful pick.
EDIT: Also, the Seahawks played nickel/dime over 60% of the time last year. Pretty sure Irvin will be in there quite a bit causing havoc for quarterbacks. With how good the secondary is at mauling receivers, adding a pass rusher like this could be huge.Last edited by thaima1shu; 04-27-2012, 10:19 AM.Comment
