    CBS 1/28 Mock drafts.

Anybody think Reid will want to take Geno Smith with the first overall? This draft seems almost ill-informed to me. I don't agree with their first overall or eighth overall picks.

You can't go wrong w/ DL in the first, but I think a couple wks removed from the season, media & fans are forgetting how awful we were at running the ball. And when our QB has the propensity for turning the ball over, we need to be able to balance the gameplan and rely on the running game. If I'm the GM, I'm getting my interior OL in the 1st round, and moving to other needs afterwards.

The 7 Round Draft on drafttek has the Cowboys getting an interior lineman. The write-up states how the interior line was a problem in the passing game, noting Romo getting pressure in his face. They also have backup picks in the top left of each pick.

Does the NFL announce compensatory picks prior to the draft just after free agency or is it sort of a draft day surprise?

They are announced prior to the draft. I believe mid-late March is my memory serves me correctly but I'm not sure. Definitely before the draft though. Just not sure when exactly.

                      I'd assume yes.

Also, from what I've seen, places aren't even putting them into the Mock Drafts for the second round.

Yup, Goodell said it would have only been changed if the pick was higher up. Which I think is BS cause as I recall(I could be remembering wrong) he said it was a conditional pick depending on how the franchise conducted themselves, etc.

                            Re: 2013 NFL Draft Discussion

If the GM's of these top 10 drafting teams can be patient enough to wait for some value picks in the second round, then they could benefit nicely from the draft. Namely Arizona, Buffalo, and Kansas City. I can't believe that some scouts have all 3 of them taking a QB in the first round. Luke Joeckel is climbing up everyone's big boards, and why not. He has the most raw talent that I've seen a tackle possess in a long time. I'm curious to see how he will fair athletically against the speed rushers in the NFL, but his size and technique are so perfect that he should fit in fine. If I'm KC, I don't pass him up. In their case, they can easily draft one of 5 QB's in the second round. I don't think that any of them have clearly asserted themselves as the clear cut favorite (I have Geno Smith personally, but to each his own), so if they get anyone of those 5 in the second round as well as Luke Joeckel, I think that they will be satisfied.

It's the same with Buffalo. I think that Buffalo would be better off pursuing an impact player on the defensive side of the ball or an offensive lineman before rushing to pick a QB. T Eric Fisher will likely still be available by their pick, and he could be a real gem. Fisher is one of the most improved Tackles in this class and has great vision for a lineman and pulls very nicely for a tackle. He also has good footwork and hand technique and really has the skill set to be a solid starter in his first few seasons. He would be a perfect fit for Buffalo's shaky O-line. I could also see Buffalo chasing Dion Jordan, Keke Mingo, or Shariff Floyd. Each of those 3 players are some of the most talented in the draft. Jordan and Mingo don't quite have the size, but their off the ball quickness is so fast that Tackles won't have the time to stop them. Floyd is just a beast. In my opinion, he is probably the most underrated player in the draft. Not only does he have amazing potential, but it shows on the field. Floyd put together an absolutely amazing 2012 campaign. It may not show in the stats, but his ability as a 3-4 end or 4-3 tackle would be amazing.

As for Arizona, it's pretty clear that their draft will be focused on producing on the offensive side of the ball. As I mentioned earlier, T Eric Fisher would probably be the player that would best fit Arizona's needs. If not fisher, I could see them looking at the guard position with Chance Warmack (who I believe is the strongest and best run blocker in this class) and Jonathan Cooper (a man who has received high praise, but after watching his film, I'm not extremely impressed.) I could even see them checking out other tackles such as Lane Johnson and DJ Fluker, but ultimately, I don't see them straying away from Fisher.

All in all, each of these teams would be foolish (in my opinion) to pass up the level of talent on the offensive/defensive line. The QB's will be there in the second round. It's not worth putting your entire franchise at risk just to take a chance and draft them with a top 10 pick.

Buffalo's offensive line is not really all that shaky. The problem for them has been injuries. Cordy Glenn was hurt this year, Eric Wood was hurt again and I think Pears and Urbik also got hurt. Basically, the entire starting line was hurt mideseason. I do not see Buffalo taking an OT.

Cordy Glenn was drafted last year and did fine considering his injury. Zebrie Sanders was also drafted last season but went to IR in the preseason. If the Bills draft any linemen this year, it is a depth pick, hopefully at center.

More than likely the Bills will look to the Defensive End or linebacker position. Chris Kelsay is on his way out, Merriman is a free agent, Anderson is an expensive liability leaving Mario Williams as the only real long-term DE.

Linebacker is just a mess. Sheppard can't fill Posluzny's shoes, Barnett is old and I don't even know the other OLB. I think we promoted a rookie mid-season.

Quarterback would be stretching it. No QB in this draft is hands down better than Ryan Fitzpatrick. They are all project players and not worth a first.

Buffalo could potentially go receiver/TE in the first, but I am not sure of the depth at that position in this draft. Stevie is the only real receiver, Donald Jones, TJ Graham, and David Nelson are all slot guys, and of them I prefer Nelson for his height. Despite how much I love Scott Chandler, he is injury prone.

Buffalo will more than likely not go cornerback again, unless Dee Milliner falls. McGee is old, McKelvin sucks, Williams regressed and Gilmore is just one man.

Buffalo could also look for a safety for two reasons. One is the loss of Jairus Byrd, which is unlikely given we can franchise him. The other is because George Wilson is terrible in coverage.
