    Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread

I like the idea of Tom Moore b/c of his familiarity with Manning. However, Tom is nearing the end of his career along with Manning. It may be wiser to look for youth which leads me to Adam Gase. He is young, and if Manning gives him a solid endorsement then I think Denver will go that way as he will be around for Os as well. I don't think that they could go wrong with Wisenhunt or Turner either as they have a proven OC track record. Denver definitely has some solid choices.
    PS... Thank you Chargers...Sincerely!!!

I thought it was going to be Moore with the announcement he made about wanting to be an OC again.

Adam Gase it is.... Continuity can be a good thing.

During the season, I always wondered how much say McCoy had. It seemed that you could tell when he was influencing things because the offense had an Orton-like feel to it and seem out of character for what Manning normally likes to do. I wondered whether or not Manning would just run the given plays out of respect and he didn't want to step on McCoy's toes. Maybe that's far fetched, but it seemed that way to me. I don't think that will be an issue with Gase.

      It's Manning's offense now.

From interviews, it sounds like Adam Gase wants a more "go for the throat" kind of offense. That has me excited. Hopefully his age can help him be more creative. I grew really tired of the routes our WRs ran.

I was iffy at first about Adam Gase, but I keep hearing good things about him. So I'm excited for this change.

I read a lot of that as well. Sounds like Gase is going to be more than just a positition filler. Dare I say Denver's newer version of Josh McDaniels?

When I heard they were promoting the QB coach all it said to me was the Manning was the real OC so why go on a big search and throw tons of money at someone? Give the guy already there a shot, use it like an internship for him for the future.

Heck of a person to learn from, right?

I didn't know this, but apparently McCoy had Gase actually call some plays this season as a way to throw off defenses. He didn't reveal which plays. Part of me wants to say "all the successful ones."

That being said, it'll be nice to have a young mind in the OC chair who wants to bring some fire into the play calling.

Yep. I think it will work out also. Don't know how many years Manning has left but even if the Broncos don't win a SB I think there will be plenty of angles to see how much he's helped the organization by the time he's done.

Gase is the OC until Manning retires and then he takes that position.

I was actually pretty impressed when I read Gase's resume, I think he is perfect for this spot.

Technically speaking Manning has 3 years left but it is a year by year thing, I think he wants to go out like Elway did. He looks to me like he is on a mission.

NFL Combine starts in 2 weeks and Free Agency in little more than a month. So glad that things move on quickly after this last Super Bowl. It is still hard to swallow.

So Dwight Freeney is on the market. I wouldn't mind seeing him come to the Broncos. Let Freeney and Dumervil rush the edge, with Von Miller roaming where he likes. Goodnight QBs.

Freeney wouldn't be a bad option for DE depth, but I think that he will command around $10-12 mil per year. I think a better option would be Osi Umenyiora as he and Freeney are very similar in their play and age, but Umenyiora would be cheaper....closer to 6 mil per year.
Freeney is 32 (33 on February 19) and going into his 12th season. Umenyiora is 31 and entering season 10. Freeney had 5 sacks and 1 FF in 2012 with falling numbers the past 2 season's, and Umenyiora had 6 sacks with 2 FF- also with falling stats the past 2 seasons.

However, with that kind of money necessary, I don't see Denver going after an outside LB/ DE as they have greater needs that may be addressed in free agency ie) RB, DL, Mike LB, CB and OL depth.

I wouldn't mind seeing Osi or Freeney, but both are up there in age - but veterans in the twilight of their career can help a team get over the hump. I can't help but wonder what Del Rio could do with an under-achieving Dorsey from KC.

I would also like to see them get Stephen Jackson.

When Jackson was coming into the league, I wanted us to draft him. It'd be a nice pick up, but I don't know if he'd like it here. That being said, we need a feature back who is under 30 and not injury prone.
